  1. A different version of this opening included a mention of by birth date.
  2. True, thanks! But that influence only happens after the initial line is posted. My point to OP remains the same - despite the histrionics on this board since the loss on Sunday, the public consensus is that the Bills are still a kick-@ss SB contender! And I'm in agreement.
  3. Not taking away from what he has accomplished already but I'm disappointed that Judge didn't get to 61 before game 155.
  4. Now she's a cool, cool black She moves like a cat If you don't get her game Well, you might not make it back She's got the looks that kill
  5. This post is more awesome than a lot of people might realize. Well done.
  6. So many great ones already mentioned, so many more but I'll add Looney Toons...this link has two versions, I prefer the first.
  7. Isn't the spread all about trying to even out the betting $$ on both teams and by extension how the betting public views the match up? If so, the books don't think the takes on this board for the past 48 hours are representative of the betting publics view.
  8. JMO but I hope McDermott and co.'s #1 priority is to get back to the offensive and defensive dominance we saw in the first two games. No easy task given the injuries.
  9. Is this is a veiled reference to Robert Woods? If so, I endorse this message.
  10. In Dorseys case the game (and pressure) was over so it's a nothing burger to me. Had Dorsey done something like that in game I'd have a different opinion.
  11. When you say Mac was a more finished product do you mean he was finished in the NFL before he even got there? JK.
  12. Is it safe to assume that Didacts and Narpets doesn't qualify as danceable?
  13. So I check on the score and it's 3-0 Mets. With Jake on the mound I head outside to cover my pool figuring this one's already in the bag and I start thinking that maybe the Braves series won't be that big of a deal. Argh.
  14. On a normal week no, I'm only standing for big downs or big plays. But I was on my feet for almost all of Bills/Chiefs. I do a lot of pacing.
  15. Not that I disagree with your other points, but your Guillorme and DH comments were spot on. My soft landing spot comment had more to do with the intensity of the dogfight for first place. I won't count the Mets out if they're a wild card, but it would be a big blow. This season has always been about the health of Jake and Max to me. I still don't have confidence that they'll both last through a long post-season run but getting a bye would be a huge help. The good news is their pitching is lined up perfectly. They have the big 3 going against the Braves and then they'll be rested for the post season.
  16. My pet peeve is people leaving or returning to their seats during live play. Went to a Rangers (hockey) game last year and the ushers didn't let fans back to their seats until there was a stoppage in play. At one point coming back from a pee break/beer purchase I had to wait a freaking long time for a whistle. I had no problem waiting - timed my next break/purchase better.
  17. Woo-hoo! One up in the loss column - which is the only thing that matters! Good start to the weekend.
  18. Only downside to this dogfight is the soft landing both teams get by making the wild card. I'm not complaining, just observing. But if first place was win or go home this would be really intense.
  19. @ExWNYer @Gugny If I got this right, since the Mets took 4/5 from them the Braves have gone 29-10 (.743). That's similar to what the Yankees were doing earlier this year. Relentless. By way of comparison Mets went 25-17 (.595) since the 4/5. Good not great. Disappointed we couldn't take advantage of the Braves loss to the Nats yesterday. But it would be very helpful for the Phillies to take at least two of four this weekend. It'd be nice to go into the Braves series up a game or two.
  20. First player to steal more than 100 bases in a season (104). I have no recollection of seeing him play, but by all accounts he was a legend. Single season SB record was eclipsed by two other legends: Lou Brock and Rickey Henderson.
  21. Doug Risk, lol. My most despised Mets tend to be relievers. Josh Edgin was a recent one that I had absolutely no use for. I'm happy to say that my kids also like the same teams as me. I went out of my way not to push the Bills down their throats since we're out of market. As to baseball I had a simple rule: you can root for any team you want - as long as its the Mets! Appreciate the back and forth! If you get a chance try to track down video of Old Timers Day. It was outstanding, much better than I expected. Spoiler alert - Felix Millan attended.
  22. LOL, same age you and I. Didn't take you long to summarize every player expertly! Did you see Henderson at Old Timers Day? He's pushing 70 and tracked down a fly in RF. So what are you earliest memories of the Mets? I'll share two: My earliest is a vague memory of the Mets playing in the '69 WS. We had it on a B/W TV, something good happened for the Mets and we went outside to do something besides watch TV - it was a beautiful autumn day. First ever game was a Senior Citizens day in 1971 with my father and grandfather at Shea. My grandfather was the biggest influence on my love for the game. He played semi-pro and loved and shared the history with me. We sat up in the heavens in RF and watched the Mets get their @sses kicked. Carl Morton pitched for the Expos and I'm pretty sure had two extra base hits. For whatever reason I was still hooked! After that my father made sure we never sat in such crappy seats. Good times.
  23. Correct on Randy Jones! Well done - and yeah, he was done by 1981. Based on the names you've been throwing out my guess is I have maybe 5 years on you. As long as we're on the right side of the dirt it's all good! I have memories of all the guys you just mentioned (can't remember why but at some point theyt put Flynn at SS) but Randle would go to the top of that list for me. While fact checking the Zachry/Jones connection I came across the 1981 Mets roster. Pretty impressive list of pitchers even though some were either over the hill or hadn't hit their stride yet: Pat Zachry Randy Jones Neil Allen Terry Leach Tim Leary (sigh) Ed Lynch Jesse Orosco Jeff Reardon Mike Scott Craig Swan
