  1. And all the original Beatles gear. He was quite the collector.
  2. As a purist and traditionalist, I agree. But, it is what it is, and when it comes right down to it, it's ours against theirs, as it is with every sub-unit on each side of the ball. If a team wants to use a pile of humanity advancing the ball forward, the other side will just have to have a bigger and stronger pile of humanity in order to defend it. When the day comes that high profile QB gets seriously injured (costing the NFL ratings and $$), that will be the time the league will consider banning it. Money is the thrust behind most league decisions. Before the tush push, Tom Brady's scrawny little arse used to just get low and under the center when he needed less than a foot. He must've had the timing down perfectly because his win percentage was incredible with that move.
  3. In business, the objective is to maximize profit. Ooo....that evil capitalism.🙄 If there wasn't a market at those prices, the cost would be less. It's very simple. Clearly, there are those willing to pay those prices. The flip side to these prices is that today's technology gives an opportunity for every fan to view games in lifelike, high definition color on their (relatively) low cost 70" flat screen TVs, right from the comfort of their favorite chair. Sure, it's not exactly the same as being there, but it's not like fans are forced to have their ears pressed up against the big wooden Philco radio set to keep up with a game. The reality is that there are twice as many people now as there were 50 years ago, the NFL has become enormously popular, and many boomers (as well as younger earners) have ample funds to support these luxuries. This is an age when there are plenty of buyers for $80,000 trucks. If I upgrade my existing tickets for the Bills-Falcons game, I expect it will be well over $1000 for a couple of tickets. That's just the price you pay if you want the full 3D high def sight and sound live stadium experience. Otherwise, it's cheer and swear from the comfort of your easy chair.
  4. Maybe time to change the handle to 'slowingdowneddie'.
  5. I was in Iverson’s house here in metro Atlanta area about 20 years ago while doing some real estate work. Huge, open, finished-basement party room dance floor. That’s what I remember most. About what you’d expect from a young guy who still enjoyed entertaining with the means to do it.
  6. "I don't know why but I think this is the year, weird strong feeling going on".....says every die-hard Bills' fan every Spring since the 60's. 🙂 side note, re: your handle My friend, ex-Buffalo guy, now in Texas, is craving a signature Buffalo -style Royalé sub. I'll see him in the 716 in a couple of months and there's a good possibility we'll be getting sick on all our favorite Buffalo treats, include the Royalé, made with Costanza sub rolls, Italian sausage, and Gabagool.
  7. Maybe, especially for players who were forced to take cold showers in their rustic locker rooms and changing area. But for fans, and especially a young ones in the embryonic stages of fandom, the place was magical. We were 4 rows from the field. You could smell the grass, cigars, hot dogs, popcorn. There was a jazz ensemble with horns rocking, set up at one end zone section. There was a great intimacy about it. It was like being transported to another era. It's no wonder 'The Natural' found the rockpile as a worthy shooting location. Saw many games there. When (I hope) I attend a game in the new stadium, I will have a generational bridge that is partially defined by 3 different Bills home stadiums.
  8. My most vivid (and fondest) memories: First Monday Night game, 1973, KC, game 7 O.J. goes over 1,000 for the season on the way the first 2,000 rusher. Record carries in that game I believe. 1974, season opener against Raiders. Monday night under the lights. Back and forth trading leads in final minutes (similar to 13-second game), OJ out injured, Bills win. 1980, season opener, Bills defeat Dolphins after winless 70's decade. Chuck Knox era with much promise. 1980, Dec 7, Bills defeat Rams, fans won't leave and demand an encore. Bills players Smerlas, Haslett, Ritcher, et al appease the fans and come back out of locker room, minus jerseys and pads (under shirts), lock arms and perform a chorus line kick dance to the sounds of 'Talking Proud'. Crazy. 1986, Jim Kelly's first regular season game in a Bills' uniform. Unfortunately, loss to Jets. Still, the beginning of the JK era. 1987, season opener, first time sharing the Bills with my Miami-raised girlfriend - now my wife. Jets, loss of course. edit: she's a die-hard Bills fan now. Another successful conversion! 1995, Bills defeat Dolphins in close late December game, snow coming down in 4th quarter to finish it off, and as the players make their way to the tunnel after the final gun, the Hootie & Blowfish song is playing with the phrase "the dolphins make me cry" from 'Only Wanna Be With You'. Perfect. 1997, Season opener in late August (weird), day after Diana killed in wreck, Vikings. Loss. First tailgate meet-up with message board crew coming from Ohio, NYS, Virginia, Georgia, etc. Only about 7 of us. Internet it it's infancy. 2005, Texans, season opener, introducing nephews, next generation to the Bills experience. Sadly, the 10-year-old wasn't around for the 2006 opener. 2008, Seahawks, season opener, last time with one of my long-time closest friends with whom I attended many games, including the 1980 opener. It was supposed to be sunny, but it rained, we got soaked, he got pneumonia. Gone by November. After being there for at least one game every year, the 2008 game is the last one for me in that stadium. I don't know if I'll get there in 2025. Hope so. Apart from the Bills games, many 'Superfest' concerts in the 70's with some of the biggest names in rock. These were the days when you buy tickets for concerts and Bills games for under $10. For you Gen Z'er thinking "no way". Way. Being at the first Monday Night game for the Bills and the new stadium in 1973, I'd really like to be at the first one in the new stadium. Time will tell.
  9. Just got word that the Falcons are playing the Colts in Berlin, Nov 9. Yayyy! I'm working with a guy about getting primo tickets for the Bills-Falcons game here in Mercedes Benz stadium, and my only concern was if the NFL were to scheduled that matchup as an international game. I missed the 2018 game here, so hopefully this will be my chance to enjoy them close to home. Unless the Falcons do one of those consecutive week overseas trips, it's pretty much a sure thing the Bills will be here in Atlanta. Now, need to look into tickets in Charlotte.
  10. So what? Did they discontinue making the 'Young' team jersey nameplates? My point was he presumably has enough funds to purchase 6 PSLs and all that goes with it (tickets, parking, merch, concessions, etc.), but wears a dated, thread-worn team jersey. Geez, put out the extra C-note and don some decent attire for the publicity event. Or.. just duck into the Bills locker room and 'borrow' a jersey,
  11. There’re been a lot of blue chip QB misses, just ask the Browns and the Jets. Those two franchises have spent numerous first round picks over the past 25 years or so on QBs they thought would be their ‘franchise QB’ to come up empty at each attempt. It took the Bills over 20 years after Jim Kelly’s retirement to find an elite signal caller. Finding ‘that guy’ is a GMs biggest challenge. If Beane never made another good decision, getting Josh I was enough to secure his legacy in Buffalo.
  12. There’s nothing ‘sure’ in picking a prospect from the college ranks. They felt great about Josh, but what was the cost of moving into the top spot? Both 2018 1sts and 2019 1st and 2nd? Maybe something along those lines, I don’t know. Considering that there were other viable QBs with similar expectations (depending on any particular draft ‘expert’), giving up multiple premium picks as they’re trying to build for the future could have been a disaster - especially as the likely trade partners would have been division and/or AFC rivals. The maneuvering Beane did to get to #7 was brilliant, and the Bills and we fans were incredibly fortunate that The Browns, Jets, and Broncos all went for ‘the sure thing’.
  13. On the plus side, it did appears to have a little more leg room than the current seats. How does a guy with the funds to buy 6 PSLs, season tickets, parking, etc, wear a faded, vintage replica Rob Johnson jersey with a hole in it, knowing it’s a media event that’s going to be posted? My wife wouldn’t have let me out the front door wearing that. Was the Bills’ store on site not open for business?
  14. That was my thought. Two of the most dynamic QBs in head to head tie-breaking re-match after each won against the other last season. Fortunately, our win was in the playoffs. Hope it’s a home game.
  15. In addition to the ‘family section’ for non drinkers they should have included a special big seat fat-ass section for the fans who needed a seatbelt extender on their drive to the stadium.
  16. Saw a vid on Bills’ site with ceremonial install of first stadium seat by its PSL-owning season ticket holder. Maybe hard to really tell, but in the video the seat looked small and like it was made of cheap, thin plastic. I thought the downsized seating capacity was partially attributed to having bigger, wider seats (bigger people in 2025). I suspect there’s not much leg room with steeper angles. For $2B I expected a little better quality.
  17. I had the NFL ST last year. The one feature I absolutely missed from the Directv Sunday Ticket, was the ability to record the game (e.g.. start recording at 1pm kickoff) and if I was busy with something else, not rush to the TV, but sit down to watch around 2pm. Between commercials and halftime crap, I was usually caught up by the time the game ended. I just saved 45 min - hour of my weekend! But, with the Youtube Sunday Ticket, I didn't have that function. Their solution was clips for what they determined were highlights to catchup, but not the actual broadcast in which I could FF through ads. Is the functionality I miss from Directv available with the Youtube subscription and DVR option?
  18. I canceled NFLST for this year. Will I re-up? I don't know. We'll get all the usual prime-time national and and 4:25 games. We'll know which games and times 6 days from now. That's a given. Because we play the NFC South division that includes Atlanta (where I live), it's very possible I might also get local broadcasts of Carolina, Saints, and Bucs games when they face the Bills. A little extra bonus. In the past, there've been Bills vs Miami (or some other team), and the local stations always show NFC South games even if the matchups suck. As far as he cost is concerned, I'm Elmer J. Fudd. I own a mansion and yacht. So, clearly I can afford it. But it's the idea of paying almost $500 for what could amount to maybe to 5 or 6 games only available with NFLST - just bad bang for the buck. I already subscribe to NFL+ through the NFL app. The game is shown in it's entirety immediately following the end of the live game. That's one option. I could wait and watch it on the app with the delay, (would rather watch live). Or I can go to a friend's house. Or to our local Anchor Bar. The cost of an afternoon at a sports bar made the Sunday Ticket a good bargain. But not if it amounts to $100/game for the ticket. But, Youtube and NFL are really getting greedy. There are already at least 5 or 6 games every week on local TV or with cable, (ESPN), Netflix, Amazon, etc. Even more during Thanksgiving week, Christmas week and other times. When Bye weeks come into play, there may only be 13 games shown, or rather, only 7 or 8 on NFLST. So, with the odds of having an attractive team (like the Bills) on TV locally, NFLST doesn't make much sense for me this year. When the schedule comes out next week, I'll have a better idea of which course to take, but highly unlikely I'll get the ticket this year.
  19. It seems aisle seats are the preferred ones by most. I'm in the minority on this one. Since I keep my ass planted and rarely need to go anywhere before halftime or before the conclusion of the game, I like the middle. Sitting on the aisle, you can count on restless/hungry fans or the ones with small bladders who have to squeeze past you throughout the entirety of the game. It's worse when you're near young kids with short attention spans who have to come and go every 15 minutes and kick your drink over in the process. I'll take the middle given the choice.
  20. Kaiir Elam's inactive roster spot will be much improved
  21. No kidding. My handle is southern man. The Ga Bulldogs are top dogs over Falcons or any other team here.
  22. A better option may have been to make an offer for tight end T.J. Hockenson in 2022 when the Lions made him available. Division foe Minnesota Vikings got him from for a 2nd and 3rd the following year. I'm still not sure what the issue was with the Hockenson/Lions relationship. I thought he was a decent TE.
  23. No. The offense has been productive. It doesn't much matter if the points on the scoreboard come from rushing, the tush push, dink and dunk, play action, bubble screens, statue of liberty, etc. What should be obvious to anyone following the team is that It's the limitations of the defensive personnel that have kept the Bills from progressing further in the playoffs. The offense has been scoring points. EVERYONE knew the defensive side of the ball needed the most attention in the draft and FA signings. It would be great to have a marquee WR, but it's unlikely a team can fulfill their entire Wishlist in one offseason. Maybe Cooper comes back and becomes a role player. Along with Shakir, Samuel, Kincaid, Knox, Palmer, and progress from Coleman, the Bills have a decent enough stable of pass catchers. Add to that Ty Johnson, Cook, and Davis (who've all shown the ability to run routes and catch passes), I think the Bills will be just fine. Even better if they can count on an improved D to get the ball back to them with greater frequency.
  24. They scored record points for a season. I don't GAF about passing yards or a lot of other stats that fantasy footballers get hung up on. The only stat that really matters is number of wins. And if the Bills made a serious effort in the final game, would have had a 14-win regular season - a team record. Why should anyone care about passing yards? Stats are often deceptive without in-depth analysis that can provide the real story. Wins. The only stat that matters unless you're invested in the Fantasy game. Marino had amazing passing stats. You can count on zero hand his number of Super Bowl wins. Elite WRs in the FA market are usually cost prohibitive when a team is trying to have competitive balance throughout the entire team roster. The Bills best bet for a top-tier receiver is to find an affordable one in the draft. They'd either have to get real lucky or find a way to trade into the top 15. The best receivers coming out of college are usually gone by the time the Bills get to pick. The idea that the Bills should have gotten their ace receiver this offseason is a head-scratcher. Offer a viable solution. Clearly, Beane didn't see a better option. If you or anyone has a better plan for securing the elusive #1 WR, I'd love to hear it.
