  1. Not sure we need to invest much in run stuffing DT. It seems more a need this year than in the long term. We may already have one with Harrison. And they should be able to find another big body later in the draft. Also resign Phillips.
  2. Agree on the negativity. Almost had my soon to be brother in law taking swings at me because I threw some facts at his narrative that Josh Allen is the worst QB and shouldn't be in the NFL. Allen is average right now, which based on last year, pre draft expectations, and what he needed to work on, is great.
  3. Meh. It was 3rd down and he didn’t make the sticks. I’ll take it. Fail is the TD scramble.
  4. Here was a stat I was interested in. % drives that end in a 3 and out. We’re first with 37.3% and second is the 49ers with 28.3%. I think this a huge number. In the last 5 years I didn’t see a team above 34%. This 3 and out rate could be why we don’t have so many gaudy numbers in sacks and turnovers. We force a lot of incompletions and then 3 and outs. https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/drivestatsdef/2019
  5. Yes definitely got the opportunity because Eifert was injured. My point was more about him actually getting open when he got the opportunity. I can definitely appreciate your opinion that he was a good signing that doesnt look as necessary now because of Knox and Sweeney. I suspect he will be an upgrade when he comes back and don't think he should be IR'ed (I'm not sure it was even you who said it).
  6. I would give Kroft Sweeney's snaps and some of Knox's. You're sure Sweeney is a better blocker than Kroft? Also maybe Kroft was earning targets more than Sweeney (also could just be the Cincy offense)? Either way definitely don't IR him thats silly cause it doesnt save you any money and I'm not sure theres an upgrade out there. I think hell be an incremental upgrade over Sweeney and Knox. A two TE set with Kroft and Knox has me super excited. They can both run routes and will put a ton of stress on the defense. I don't think Sweeney is putting that stress on the defense yet (very excited to see him develop though).
  7. I’m actually not convinced the pats offense is that great and they definitely are not balanced re: offense versus defense. That offense has the benefit of playing Miami Jets Skins and Steelers. That’s far from a murders row. I will be very interested to see how that offense performs as the season goes on.
  8. Interesting that they waived Quessenberry. He has been active for them and even caught a TD. Feels like it’s odd that an OL would catch a TD and be released in the same year.
  9. Yeah I forgot the exact language the but the comment about losing it immediately didnt quite jive with me. It felt in the first quarter like it was gonna be a blow out, but at the end of the day we were right there (and thats with the disastrous first quarter).
  10. Yeah I don't get the comments about not being able to hang with either team when we did just hang with the Pats. I get it was at home but we more than demonstrated we should be in the talk. Whatevs well see them come around as the season progresses.
  11. Not to the question of why weren’t getting points (I agree with TOs, sacks, drops, and penalties), but I think with this defense that offensive yards matter more than other teams. More yards mean more first downs which mean more rest for the defense. Feels as if we are way better in the 3 and out stat than last year and it’s helping our defense. Once this offense gels I think the points will come.
  12. 3 that we win 7 that we cover the spread. To much variance in our play and honestly a lot unknown about the patriots. I think our offense is better (again more variance) and not sure where our d is relative to theirs (again unknown) but it’s close.
  13. throwing to Knox could have been intercepted if the defender jumped the route. ? Sheesh what a silly argument. Thanks for coming to my aid. I thought I was crazy.
  14. Yeah josh taking off would be a good way to beat cover 1 with those routes. I also like the idea of running this from 12 personnel because it’s hard to match personnel. I really can’t wait until Kroft can go. This offense might hit another gear with him
  15. @GunnerBill what do you think of running 4 verticals out of 11 personnel? Brown foster jones Knox would be pretty good. I think you might even be able to get Beasley in on it. Would have to adjust when the hoodie goes to quarters but I think it could be pretty good. Now that I think of it 4 verticals could be work out of 12 personnel.
  16. The way I see it happening is if Josh has no turnovers. Both defenses are great and can generate turnovers essentially making it a wash. However I think our offense might have more weapons than theirs. If we cut the costly mistakes I think we get the job done.
  17. Agreed. Cover 1 was discussing how they think Brown can get the comeback against Gilmore too. I think they made a Bet on it during their podcast. Would be very happy to see Smoke get behind Gilmore a couple times.
  18. Agreed. His processing seems to be speeding up. I honestly think he’s pretty smart as well as having a cannon, legs, and leadership. He got a 37 which was the highest in his class on the wonderlic. The josh Allen or josh Allen segment with Simms also showed some quick thinking. Can’t wait to see him progress this year.
  19. Site limits are tough and I had to shrink that screen shot a lot to get. Still confused how you’re arguing it was almost picked off when the defender clearly didn’t put a hand up to defend the pass even. Of course the defense is gonna be trying to pull the ball out. Doesn’t mean they were threatening a pick. You’re relying on the announcers for your argument? Sheesh. I watched Knox’s route several times. Agree Knox came open on the play by there wasn’t enough time for Allen. When he’s getting hit Knox hasn’t cleared the first level of defense. I really don’t see this as a risky play. Also if you think he barely got it to Beasley why do you think a ball that has to travel farther to Knox wouldn’t get picked? Overall this was a very similar game to the rest of 2019. Allen has some plays he wants back but more good. Are you watching the cover 1 film breakdown? Feel like you are nitpicking a good play.
  20. Think it was during the NYG game. He had a red non contact jersey on all last week for his neck.
  21. I like the idea of 2 TE sets but I think its Kroft. Hell everyone is talking about not showing all our plays; do we think they might not have shown all their players? I do wish he had played the bengals game though so the chemistry could start building.
  22. I think the jet sweeps are entirely because Singeltary was out and they didnt want to rely solely on Yeldon to replace those touches. While it will continue to be used ~2 times a game I dont think we see as many as we did this week.
  23. I actually don't really see it as the defense setting it up for "no where else to go" because there is a break down in the OL so that the blitz isnt picked up. This causes the "no where else to go" rather that it being set up. Thus, the secondary is definitely not expecting the situation as the stem of the Knox route is initially being guarded and they aren't pouncing on Beasley's route. No defender was close to making a play on the ball as no one even tried for a deflection. I thought that was a great example of a hot read by Allen which is something he has struggled with. On the Knox route, I think youre being ridiculous. Knox has not cleared the first level of defender by the time Allen is winding up (again why the throw to Beasley ends up being open). If he just throws it to a spot, the defenders (1st and 2nd level probably) would probably beat Knox to the spot. Should he throw the corner to Knox if he has more time? Hell Yes! Did he throw a corner to Knox on the very next play? Hell Yes! This play was a break down in OL play that Allen read and got yards out of with out danger imo. Confused why all the noise on a good play. Edit: It was not the next play but the next possession that he hit Knox. This was the series before. I don't think it changes my conclusions on this play being a smart play to get yards on a break down.
  24. The running is the tricky thing cause passer rating doesnt account for it. Also garbage time might be inflating some of those numbers for other QBs. Lastly, football is a situational game and you really need situational statistics. There are only a couple things that transcend the situational part of the game (toxic differential being a big one).
  25. ???? I don't think the player can get there any earlier cause that throw went as soon as possible (he didnt even try to get a deflection). The LB came in on JA basically untouched so the whole play was was very bang bang. Dawson Knox was not open until the ball was thrown. The defender that is the closest to Beasley is coming from out of the picture in hte broadcast view and is effectively covering Knox as he goes vertical before his break. That was a great play to get some yards when your OL lets you down and I don't think there could be anywhere else you could go with the ball (watch the replay from behind). This completion also set up the 2nd & 4, I believe, for the toss to Knox to get in the red zone. Not sure Knox is as open on 2nd & 10.
