  1. lol we’re both right. Forgot the picks were so close. He went one before our 173 and two after our 170. What is wrong at Lb? TB Milano and Dorian as back up. Hoecht if you want a SAM. I agree S room underwhelming but they did pick hancock as a DB that will try S. Walker is the 1T they want. You seem to just not like the picks
  2. Paul went the pick before us. Second statement wrong. They announced hancock as a DB and said the spring he will play nickel and S. I am also concerned the starting safety group is rapp and bishop but hancock actually seems like a better investment than I thought they would make.
  3. I brag about Spencer brown all the time. More than anyone but Josh. Dawkins quite a bit too. Those guys are so much fun. yes Josh has been bailing out the offense but the defense can’t directly be bailed out by Josh. Hence the investment.
  4. But its not really true to say its the LB's. Terrel Bernard had a sub 80 rating when targetd and Milano was 85.4 (obviously limited role). Dorian had a below average coverage grade. So we can blame him and take the improvement that comes with Milano. I think I can blame one room though for 3rd and long troubles as the functional role of the safety is downfield coverage (where the offense has to have success for 3rd and longs). Whereas CBs will have press and short area responsibilities. So I do think its fair to lay a lot of the 3rd and long woes on safety. But I understand the whole group logic as 4 of the most targeted players (2 Safeties, 1 LB, 1 CB) had +100 ratings when targeted. I like Tre but am not expecting much from this move. But calling the CB room the problem for pass defense is not supported by any data (not sure if youre making this point, or what point your making at all other than neg'ing). Im ok assuming Milano is an improvement over Williams (has been demonstrated as recently as last year). Tre at the end of the year (sub 60 rating w/ BAL) was playing better than Douglas though the fear there is that it was in limited reps. Considering we all expect a high draft investment, I feel ok with the plan there. Safety is where my concerns remains. Taylor Rapp was never a plus athlete and his processing isnt as good as hyde/poyer so he gives up plays. Hopefully Bishop can put it together and that will lock up one of the safety spots. But opposite him I sort would prefer Forrest. Considering I'm not expecting a high draft investment (my feelings will change if we get somebody), the safety room is the blinking light for this season. They didnt play well last year and our only hope for improvement is growth from a rookie and a vet gets better at processing....
  5. Thanks for confirming. I agree our pass defense was awful. I disagree that Benford was a problem or is not worth the contract. I think the safety room is why we took a step back on pass defense on 3rd and long. Losing the best safety combo in franchise history will do that to you. So while I would like better CBs I hardly think they are the problem relative to safety and pass rush. So no I dont understand your concern around CB relative to the other groups. If you think Safety was such a good position, you should look at their coverage grades. If you think we should just have better players everywhere, thats not necessarily realistic as we need to prioritize somewhere and CB was not considered the priority this offseason because the safeties objectively played worse in coverage than 2/3 of the CB group.
  6. K. Then not almost bare. A really good player (better than either safety) to start with. I think the combo of Benford and whomever (including Tre) will likely be better than safety. You don’t have to agree with that but I understand your original the cupboard is almost bare to be hyperbolic. Agree we’re seeing it similar. I might have confused you with the banana dude re: benford contract. Also I think you’re reading too much into tres contract. I would be shocked if his cap hit was 6 mil. I would expect his cap hit to be vet minimum and he has a ton of not likely to earned incentives. If that’s the case he’s essentially vet minimum which means it didn’t and isn’t keeping us from signing one good player.
  7. Weird they only went back half a decade cause most draft classes take three years to be evaluated. also no mention of Christina benford lol. Easily the best value.
  8. That first Miami game really helped Ingram but yes I saw the same things from pro football reference.
  9. Rapp had a coverage grade of 109. I am not ready to call him above average. I like his contract but on the field he is pretty average to me at this point.
  10. Yeah we do see it differently. in terms of player ability I have Benford > Johnson >>>> Rapp > Bishop. We don't have anyone penciled in for CB2 but we have top 10 players at CB1 and nickel. Whereas with safety we dont and likely will not have a top 10 player (Bishop's ascension and certain draft scenarios outstanding). I have way more confidence in the CB room than I do in the safety room and I think the safety room was more of the cause for the poor pass defense than the CB room (ask yourself which of these rooms had more player turnover). I think the difference in the e v a l is that you want hope. That hope is there for CB with the minimal activity done (only players with minimal upside); whereas safety has a young early round pick and some new players also with upside. However, I evaluate based on what I have seen which is top 10 players at 2/3 starting CB spots and not good play by Bishop and average play by Rapp. I'll take it that you as well think the contract for Benford was a significant overpay and will hold the team back (the almost bare at CB comment is my basis)?
  11. But my point is your focus is in the wrong spot. If you were upset we haven’t don’t have anything at safety I would get it. Saying we have almost nothing at CB is ignoring that our CB1 is top 10 and our nickel is also top 5. Also asking for quality starters as backups is not really achievable unless they are on rookie deals (else they would have contracts with other teams). I don’t disagree with your concerns about the pass defense but your point that we have almost nothing at CB is missing the mark. If anything we are almost bare at safety and pass rush. So 19 mil was too much for CB in your opinion? Would love to hear your list of 10 better CBs.
  12. Almost bare?!!! Benford and Johnson are both top 5-10 at their position. I think were starting from a really good spot at this position, as opposed to safety (no top 10 players) and pass rush (no top 10 players). Pass defense is more than just CBs and safeties def took a step back from previous years. That seems like a better reason for why the team had poor pass defense rather than just saying we have nothing at CB.
  13. Its def similar but I think were gonna give him less than the 3.25 mil that LAR guaranteed at signing. Signings are even similar in terms of timing. Probably the biggest difference is hes fighting for number 2 at best, and LAR probably hoped he could be close to a #1 considering who else they had last year. I think the difference of an extra 12 months post injury (+ offseason training); paying less (assuming true); asking less on the field is enough to make the lotto ticket different than what the Rams did. His play with the ravens was also not terrible, but that was limited snaps so i agree with skepticism that can scale if called upon. Thinking he might not make the team is not unfair imo. thus, i 100% agree this doesnt impact our draft plan other than give us a bit more ability to go BPA. Not a devil in my eyes for this convo (is that what the "Fire" your username is for lol?)
  14. PFR is great https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/W/WhitTr01.htm Penalties not included but the Balt play looks significantly better
  15. I cant hip bump a lineman beside me to help them gain horizontal leverage? That feels off. Thanks for the reference though.
  16. Got a need at CB so I dont mind kicking the tires for cheap. He does have a history with Beane and McDermott. So they should have an understanding of what he can do in terms of processing.
  17. With touchbacks now at the 35 seems like this is a useful place to drop this change in the approach to KO's in the USFL that pioneered the current NFL rules. This kick does look much more difficult to catch and gives the kicking team a bit of and advantage they need.
  18. Pick 24 (trade our 2 4ths to Minnesota for pick 24): Azareye'h Thomas Florida State · CB · Junior Pick 56: Kevin Winston Jr. Penn State · S · Junior Pick 62: Xavier Restrepo Miami · WR · Senior I agree thats pretty silly. Thomas in the first aint too bad but at the cost of 2x 4th round picks to move up 6 spots thats silly. Then nothing on the DL is clearly not understanding team needs. Lol thomas (who was projected to be worth pick 30 and 2 4th round picks) is available at pick 62. I think by definition means Chad Reuter's is sillier Lol dude is on a tear. His previous 3 round had us moving up to pick 24 again for the same price but at least we get kenneth Graham in that one. not a CB that very would almost certainly be available at 30 (unless hes rocketing up boards and i dont realize).
  19. you said his TD's were pretty much exclusively from outside 2 yards when 33% of them were from 2 yards or in. Im not sure you know what exclusive means. He was very often scoring from 2 yards or close this past year. Previous years I would agree with your statement.
  20. Maybe not the primary option from inside the 5 (or 2 yards out) but he has 7 TDs from inside the 5 last year. 5 of those were from the 2 or 1. In previous years it was true that he didnt score from close (only 2 TDs from inside the 5). But this past year he got more opportunities and was more efficient (stats not readily handy) from inside the 5. His increase in TDs is mostly because of inside the 5 TDs.
  21. I’m never giving urban Mayer the benefit of the doubt. Haskins and burrow are very different players and I think burrow has more than done enough to show he can be effective.
  22. Definitely gives them a chance to bring in more young DLine help and see who’s got upside. Then practice squad the one that’s falling behind when hoecht and O come back. looks like we might keep more of our draft picks than initially expected.
  23. Very good? i'm not sure Herber is even 5th best in the conference. Ill say +9 yards per target the past two years aint nothing either. Happy for him to be that efficient on 60 targets here. That puts him right behind Coleman and Cooper last year which is where I would expect him as an X receiver.
  24. It’s all magic on some level of this hypothetical. Particularly if you start thinking about the ramifications of adding the stats (first downs gained and lost, GAME SCRIPT which was huge for the team). We did the assignment different. As you say adding 10 TDS is no small feat cause we would have been all time efficient. I think that takes us further. But am looking for that this offseason? No. It seems easier to get a 13 sack guy (of which there are not many) than get another 10TDs from the offense. And it’s def easier to find a 9+ sack guy.
  25. Maybe that’s where this is getting weird. I read as 10 TDs on top of what we did. Your post seemingly says those 10 TDS would come from someone else. So if it’s effectively of no benefit then (cause they came from someone else) then yeah that stat line is of course worse. I think 10 more TDs (on top of what we had) would have been more impactful than 13 more sacks on top of what we had. You also mention pressures but that’s not in the OP. It just says stat line doesn’t say player who could. I read it different than you is all and it was still close. yes if you say those 10 TDs would come from other players (thus not increasing points scored which is my whole thesis) and 13 sacks also brings pressures all on top of what everyone else did then that’s obviously better. But if it’s what would be more impactful the bills scoring 10 more TDS and getting 1k more yards or getting 13 more sacks and 10 TFL (very low) I’m taking points and significantly more yardage. if this is another should we address offense or defense thread then I agree with you and address defense. But it was posed a bit differently. I would rather a 13 sack guy than a 1k and 10TD guy.
