Did the Bills get played by Orton?
PolishDave replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think Orton played the Bills, but I do think that Kolb did when he was here. I think Kolb's intent in coming here was to hopefully sit the bench the whole year and collect a huge salary for doing it. He obviously didn't plan on getting a concussion, but I truly believe he would have been happy with a lesser injury forcing him to the bench for the rest of the year. Just my opinion. -
There are NO good Qbs available
PolishDave replied to Buffalo Boy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Answer: American dollar vs. Canadian dollar and also just general costs of living A Buffalo Bills game is a relatively cheap high value sporting event in the eyes of Canadians. Couple months ago I bought a case of Molson beer up in Canada at one of their beer stores - cost me $55. I asked if the beer came with a jar of vasoline so at least the sodomy wouldn't be so painful. A 30 pack of Molson Canadian Costs me less than $20 here in Western NY. You will find that damn near anything you do in Canada is very expensive compared to Western NY. That is a large part of why increasing numbers of Canadians come down here for a Bills game, yet would not bother going to Toronto when the Bills played there. -
Suh suspension overturned [was: at it again]
PolishDave replied to voodoo poonani's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No Schwartz didn't bring ghetto football to Buffalo with him. If he did do that then no I would not approve. Our D was nasty playing physical football. That is commendable. Our defense didn't take players out of games by stepping on another player's ankle trying to intentionally injure him. -
Suh suspension overturned [was: at it again]
PolishDave replied to voodoo poonani's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Looked intentional to me. How can you not realize you are stepping on somebody there. And twice nonetheless. Suh is a scumbag. Wish someone would have retaliated against him in a big way. In situations like that, the league should be very disciplinary in my opinion. Like absurd fines. And he has teammates doing these things too? Seems like a culture issue in Detroit. How much more ghetto can you get? -
I agree. It drives me friggin insane during games. I want them to go no huddle quick snap QB sneak. Just get the friggin yard and keep the drive alive. The Bills act like a one yard play is the most complicated play of a game. It's a friggin yard. Just go get it. More times than not, you will get it. Stop giving the defense so much time to prepare for it. Just go sneak it.

SF FA guard Mike Iupati (update: going to Cardinals)
PolishDave replied to CJPearl2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Really? Then why don't we have any? -
Imagine how pissed some Jets fans are today after getting another win.

Marrone said that playing Orton gave them the best chance to win. And they won. so.....I don't get your point.... The Bills obviously wanted to win this game and they did. Mission accomplished.

Should The Bills Retain CJ Spiller?
PolishDave replied to PolishDave's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes he has. Especially Fred Jackson. He should be outplaying Fred Jackson consistently at this point in both their careers. He can't carry Fred's jockstrap. It's not even close. You can't count on CJ to get you a tough yard. And you can't count on him to block a blitzer so the QB at least has a chance to make a play. How much longer can you realistically wait for CJ to turn his game back around... Why would you ever want CJ in on another 3rd down play where his job is to help protect the quarterback. I suppose he is worth keeping around for that purpose if you want to use a roster spot just for that. Seems like we got just as good of production out of Thigpen at that spot though. -
Should The Bills Retain CJ Spiller?
PolishDave replied to PolishDave's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think most fans would agree he would have had a lot more success behind a much better offensive line. It is hard to question that. However, if this guy was even close to being elite he still should be able to make a big play here or there. And he doesn't. He just doesn't. And he is not performing his basic assignments to help the rest of the team as evidenced by his whif on the pass block where Orton fumbled. If the guy isn't making any big plays on his own and if he is allowing the other team to make huge plays against him, then I say it is time to part ways with him. He seems like a great guy, but he doesn't seem like a great football player. -
I thought Spiller had another dismal game. He whimped out on the block that led to Orton's sack fumble. He can't break a play open to save his life. With his lack of ability to aid in stopping opponent's pass rush, I think he is more of a liability than an asset. I will be disappointed if he is back next year. Your thoughts?

Obviously neither because neither team plays a sport that is truly a worldwide sport. The Bills will win a national championship (Superbowl) within the next 10 years.

I thought he retired? http://www.giants.com/news-and-blogs/article-1/Kevin-Gilbride-announces-retirement-/39f3eaa8-3858-4d4e-8977-59fcaed839e3 He wanted a head coaching job, but didn't get any offers I guess.

Article: Why OL is bigger issue than Hackett/QB
PolishDave replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't you get sick of saying this? Everyone knows that we need a franchise quarterback who is above average. It is not really a question. The question is .."How do you put yourself in the best position to win games right now while you keep trying to find an above average quarterback in the draft?" -
I don't mind Orton playing for various reasons. But, I do wish they would play a rookie lineman instead of Pears at right guard.

Whaley Value Meals, Free agents Offense
PolishDave replied to NastyNateSoldiers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Are you suggesting that next year the Bills start the new lineman (Kouandjio and Richardson) they drafted this year rather than sign free agents? That is what it sounds like based on what you said. -
Whaley Value Meals, Free agents Offense
PolishDave replied to NastyNateSoldiers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Because they are among the best available at a reasonable price. Thus the nature of salary caps and the NFL. And to be fair, those two are probably at Urbik's level compared to when Urbik is playing well not compared to when he has struggled. And Urbik has historically not been as bad as this year. I think he played better at right guard than left. -

If the Bills are willing to pay for Lupati then I would take him. I doubt they will pay for him though. He commands a lot of money for an offensive lineman. Two of the more reasonably priced guards are Willie Colon from the Jets and Clint Boling from Cincinnati. Bills could sign them both or at least one of them. I would rather have Boling if I could only sign one. They are about on par with Craig Urbik in terms of talent. Move Urbik to right guard. I think he was better there? Sign a free agent for the left guard spot. They need to bring in a veteran to compete with Henderson at tackle too. Not sure which free agent would make the most sense. If the Bills staff was unable to make progress with the linemen they drafted this passed year, then cut them and draft replacements. Hopefully Whaley learned from that draft and will draft better linemen this time. -
Positive Side - Bills were a playoff caliber team this year
PolishDave replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not quite playoff caliber. If we were, then we would have beaten the Chiefs, Texans or Raiders. We were closer than we have been in a decade though. Let's see how much they can improve on offense and how well they can at least maintain the quality of the defense going into next year. -
My intention is for it to be unbiased and not about the Bills, just an NFL team in general. That is the list I came up with trying to think from just a generic NFL team standpoint. Rank the positions you need the most consistently good performance from to have a consistently dominant football team. That is the idea. I think anyone who actually does this exercise will achieve greater clarity in their thinking when analyzing what really matters for their team to become a powerhouse.

Every player on an NFL team is important. But, we know that certain positions (categories) are more important than others. For example, in my opinion, it is more important to have good quarterback play than any other position category. Think about which aspect of the team you need to play well with consistency. Then rank those positions according to which position (category) you feel an NFL team needs the most consistently good play from. My opinion: 1) Quarterback 2) Offensive line 3) Linebackers 4) Defensive Line 5) Secondary 6) Kicker 7) Receivers 8) Backs 9) Punter 10) Other special teams players What is your opinion? How would you rank them?

A picture's worth 1,000 words
PolishDave replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
These photos can be abused as badly as stats that people dig into to try to prove their point. In this case it is the Orton haters and/or Hacket lovers who just want to (once again) try and make it look like Orton is the worst quarterback ever. I don't even know why people keep trying to make repeated points about Orton's lack of elite status. Nobody here thinks he is elite. He is merely serviceable, especially compared to the Bills' available options. -
In the category of QBR means nothing
PolishDave replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Awesome... Just imagine how proud Orton is to be mentioned in the same sentence as those guys.... He will frame that article and hang it on his office wall at home. -
Boom! There you have it....rumor started.... Now when we see the rumor on ESPN we can say Red Dog Blitz started it...
