There was another thread on here that discussed Hackett's involvement in this offense. It was pretty well pointed out that this offense is really a Doug Marrone offense that Hackett is running. So, if you want Hackett gone because his offense sucks, then you should probably want Marrone gone too. The likelihood of Marrone bringing in a new offensive coordinator and letting that new OC run a different offense is pretty small. Because Marrone is an offensive minded head coach, it is more likely that Marrone would want the new coordinator to keep running Marrone's offense. So you kind of have to get rid of both Marrone and Hackett unless you honestly think Marrone would allow a better offensive coordinator to come in with a brand new system. In my opinion, Marrone has to beat New England now in order to convince me he is worthy of another year. I don't see that happening. And of course it isn't my decision to make anyway, but that is my opinion as a fan. If this team lays another massive egg on offense then I say fire Hackett and Marrone for their lack of ability.

Don't you think he already knew that coming into this season? I do. Don't you think he already tried to fix it with every option he could come up with? I do. I just think he isn't good enough. There is no excuse big enough for what they fielded yesterday. He just isn't that good. That team should have been prepared better and should have played better. He couldn't get that team to perform in the first half and he couldn't get them to rally in the second half. You don't get many opportunities to play teams as bad as Oakland when you have your season on the line.

The dual nature of being a Bills fan of my age

I think what you are experiencing is the normal evolution of a fan. -
It is really kind of laughable how this coaching staff literally destroyed the running attack of this offense. It looks pretty obvious to me that they decided to abandon the running game for the most part, mainly because they don't have the answers for how to fix it. They tried what they know how to try and they failed. We need coaches who are either more experienced or more innovative or both.

Orton needs what every QB needs in this league who isn't an elite quarterback: 1) Coaches who can devise an offense around his strengths 2) A decent running game 3) Time to throw the ball in passing situations. 4) Receivers who can get open and catch the friggin ball. If you could give him all 4 of those, Orton would look like he is an elite quarterback even though he is not. If you take all 4 of those things away from him, he will look like one of the worst quarterbacks in the league even though he is not.

You are right about Big Ben and Rivers, but where are you going to get one of those? You have to work with what is available. You have to try to win with what you can get.

You know, a few years ago I would have been right on board with your line of thought. I really thought the Bills front office had to give fans something to be optimistic about in order to sell season tickets and sell out games. But this year changed my line of thinking. Coming into this season this year, ticket sales were very robust and the only real selling point was stadium renovations and EJ 2.0. Neither of those should have sold squat for tickets. I think that the NFL has become so popular in Ontario Canada, that the Bills are going to sell more tickets to Canada each year regardless of whether they have a winning team or any reason at all for local fans to be optimistic. There really are that many Canadians at the game. It seems like each game there are more and more. Bills ticket sales will be just fine even if we went into next year with zero changes. Even if the local fans were revolting. This franchise is set.

Which quarterback? What do you mean all in? You mean over-pay for some other re-tread schmuck? If I am going to pick imaginary quarterbacks for my team and go all in on them, whatever that means, then give me Tom Brady, put him in a time machine and take him back to when he was 30 years old again. And then I'll take that guy.

The guy is a beast and could have been a career long Buffalo Bill if he wasn't such a problem off the field.

There were multiple mistakes on that play. Nobody blocked 56. Not sure who was supposed to, Robert Woods? Pears maybe? (Probably Woods) CJ should have run towards Urbik which may have allowed Urbik to make a better block. CJ very often kicks these plays outside trying to outrun everyone, which he usually fails to do. CJ too often chooses to run east or west instead of north. It sucks to watch. If everyone did their job on these screen passes, a lot of these screens would go for huge gains. Sad display of both coaching and execution. The only people who executed well on that play were Orton, Eric Wood and Sammy friggin Watkins. (Maybe Pears too depending on if he was supposed to reach a second level block or not)

Sick of the same playoff teams in AFC
PolishDave replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes this is happening with me too. I find my interest dropping off severely as soon as the Bills are out of the picture. I am so tired of rooting against that Pats that I have achieved sort of a "who cares anymore" type of attitude. That is why I hate that they keep making this more of a quarterback dependent league. The more it goes that way, the more the parity among teams will disappear. -

Reflection on stadium renovation

Something to think about in regards to the bathrooms.... For those of you who run into really long lines at the head during certain parts of the game such as half time: Right outside my section there is a men's room that always has really, really long lines at certain points during the game it seems. I discovered that if you walk about 60 feet towards the tunnel end of the stadium, there is another men's room that never gets that busy. So, whenever there is a long line at the closest bathroom, I just walk the extra 20 steps or so and go to the much shorter one. It looks like that other bathroom was a new addition to the stadium, might have been some kind of employee room or storage room last year. Now it is an extra bathroom. I never knew it was there, I just happened to discover it one time when the other line was really long. The rest of the season I was glad that few of my fellow fans had realized that bathroom existed. My advice is to explore the stadium some more if you are dealing with long bathroom lines. You just might discover that there is another bathroom really close to you that has a small fraction of the line that the other one does. They didn't have to smuggle them in. Security doesn't care. We bring in food from time to time. No big deal. Just make sure it is obvious for the security people to see exactly that it really is food and you are not trying to smuggle in booze or beer. Clear bags, clear plastic wrap, etc.. -
Reflection on stadium renovation
PolishDave replied to billsfan_34's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anyone who waits more than 5 minutes to get into a game simply hasn't explored the gates enough. We go to gate 2 at about 12:35-12:40 every week and are in the stadium within 5 minutes. Every week, week after week. These new gates totally rock in my opinion. I don't know why people wait in the longest lines when they can walk 30 feet farther and get right in. I may be in the minority, but I like pretty much all the renovations. If I had to sit down and come up with good ideas on how to improve the stadium, I would have a really hard time coming up with anything meaningful. I think it is a terrific place to watch football. I can't believe how spoiled people have become. If you want luxury, then buy a club seat and sit in the bar for Christ's sake. -

Yes. Another thing to consider too is what would the fans be saying right now if Whaley had not taken a qb in the first round in that draft? I can guess what would be happening. I think fans would be blaming Whaley for not taking a shot at a quarterback (any quarterback). They would say it is his fault this offense sucks so bad. No one can say that Whaley hasn't tried to get a servicable qb for this team. In fact, he has gone over, above and beyond trying to do so. Look how many qb's have come through here in 2 years. They are trying their damnedest to find any qb who can get it done. Right now they have kept the 2 guys that look like they might, maybe, barely get the job done (Orton & EJ). Those two guys aren't great, but they are the best of what has been here and probably close to the best of what has been available out there anywhere. Maybe they could have tried to grab some other scrap qb that has been discarded from some other team, like Orton was, but what is the chance that some other retread would be any better than what we have seen. The truth is that we could have gotten worse than we have right now. Whaley knows his job and is damn good at it. Dude deserves a gameball every friggin time Huhges gets a sack, Booby blocks a punt, Rambo gets a pick or Thigpen returns a punt for a touchdown. Think about that.

SI: How the Bills are beating the NFL's best QBs

Wouldn't Rex want to run his own style of D though while Schwartz would want his wide 9? Nice thought but it seems like there would be a lot of head butting. No? -

Yes it looked like Graham was handing off coverage to a ghost man on that play. Something definitely wrong there. But, the outcome was stellar. -
Week 16 predictions: Bills at Raiders
PolishDave replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What do the Raiders have left to play for? Bills D is going to make Carr wish he had chosen a different profession. (sack count will be higher than average) Sometime before the end of the 3rd quarter the Raiders players are going to stop caring about winning this game and just want to get the hell out of there. The Bills offense is going to look considerably better than last week. One Bills running back will have over 100 yards. Another will be over 60 yards. Running very well late in the game. Because of the awesome field position the Bills will have most of the day, this game won't be that close. Bills win 36-7 -
Overpaid for Sammy? Yes you can make that argument right now and it may be true. I have a feeling you will be eating those words 2 or 3 years from now. Overpaid and busted on EJ? - Remember the circumstances leading up to the draft. The Bills were going to take a QB. They had to. The fanbase was revolting. They weren't going into the season with Kolb and nobody. Whaley and crew made an evaluation that EJ was the best QB in that draft and so far that has proven to be a pretty good evaluation whether you like EJ or not. I don't blame them at all for taking EJ regardless of whether he eventually works out or not. Look what the Jets ended up getting stuck with. Now that is a bust. And it seems like Whaley is an exceptionally good judge of free agent talent. Look at all the outstanding free agents he has brought in here. Whaley should be the envy of the team owners in this league right now.

PolishDave replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes it is humorous. And people will think I am suggesting Orton is better than he is. And I am not suggesting that. Orton is not a great QB. My intention is just to point out that even elite quarterbacks take a crap that smells pretty bad sometimes. And it is okay to admit that. -

Yes it was the wrong decision dude...the friggin ball got picked.....Why can't you just admit that Rogers made a bad decision? Even he admitted it. He said the receiver APPEARED to be open. He didn't say, well my guy was open but I decided to throw the ball to the safety instead. You can say that the coverage was soft, but it wasn't soft enough or else it would not have been picked. I hope every qb we face makes the same accurate decision you seem to think Rogers made on that play..... -

Cool.. So he admitted he made the wrong decision. Great Bills D effort and awful game by Rogers = win for Bills. Let's hope we catch Brady having one of those days too.
