I am sure there were times he looked good. I just remember that for much of the season fans were begging the coaches to ditch their up-tempo offense because EJ was failing at it miserably. And the coaches did scrap it once they came to the same conclusion. But they haven't run it much with Orton. I think he is better suited for it than EJ was or is.

Who should be the next Bills Offensive Coordinator
PolishDave replied to simpleman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is what I keep telling myself. He does seem to be making progress in some areas, which is encouraging. It just feels like he might be too far away yet. The guy will probably be really good one day, but how far off is that? And how much more suffering would we have to endure before he reached a point where he would be a true asset on this team instead of a liability? Find me a coach who had experience playing quarterback at the NFL level or at least at a big time college. -
Nah.... They tried running an up-tempo offense in Ej's first year and it was a disaster. They rightfully went back to a regular huddle with him in there. Orton is more experienced though and seems like more of a field general pocket passer. I would like to see them try it. I would try it immediately after a turnover that goes in the Bills' favor. Bring the offense in and go no huddle. And keep your foot on the gas as long as it is working.

I would spend a lot more Sundays not watching football. Probably wouldn't care much about any games at all until playoffs. Superbowls would be much like they are now, usually between two teams I hate where I wish both teams could somehow lose.

Ok, so what HC will Pegula hire to maintain defensive staff?
PolishDave replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The original poster presumes that Pegula is going to be the one deciding who the head coach is going to be. I disagree with that assumption. I think it is completely plausible that Pegula's consultants tell him to retain Doug Whaley and to allow DW to have full authority to continue reshaping this team into a winner. And if he does that, then it will be up to Doug Whaley to decide if Marrone stays or goes. And if Marrone is retained, it will be up to Marrone as to whether or not Hackett is back or any other assistant coach. So it is very plausible that they all come back for another year at least. I happen to think it is extremely unlikely that a knowledgeable consultant would advise Pegula to fire everyone. My intuition tells me that is about the dumbest advice he could be given, especially based on performance. -
Photo proof CJ Anderson never crossed the goal line
PolishDave replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
At full speed when I saw it, I was convinced he was short of the end zone too. The runner was sitting in an upright position short of the goal line. When he leaned over, the ball broke the plane, but not before his keister was on the ground. So therefore it was short. And then when the officials went to review the play, it seemed like it was taking them a while. That made me even more convinced that the runner was in fact short of the goal line. But of course they came back and said it was a touchdown. This particular call didn't bother me all that much though, simply because it was a really close call. I don't mind so much if a really close call goes the other way. I mind when it is obvious they got the call wrong. This one was too close to overturn. I just thought they made the wrong call in real time. If they had called it the other way in real time, I doubt they would have overturned that decision either. -
The "not taking enough shots" idea you present here is one of my biggest gripes with this offense. It seems like Marrone and Hackett believe that they need to execute 15+ play drives in order to score a touchdown. And if they can't do it, it is because they are not being efficient in the red zone. I call B.S. They need to take more big play chances on offense and try to get yards in bigger chunks. Stop trying to execute 15+ plays perfectly every drive. It isn't going to happen with enough regularity. They should be trying to get huge chunks of yardage at least once every other set of downs if not more often than that.

Orton sliding one yard shy of the 1st down.
PolishDave replied to Webster Guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Didn't say he would complete more. I said he would throw more. And let's not forget how often those long balls conveniently draw flags. Deep pass attempts are something lacking in this offense. I think they should be attempting them FAR more often than they are. -

PolishDave replied to Webster Guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yep. And we would be seeing a lot more deep balls getting thrown to Watkins & Goodwin. I have a feeling we would be seeing more of them even with Nate Hackett calling in the plays. -

Ding ding ding ding! Winner! We are still paying the price for that boneheaded handling of that entire QB situation back when he was QB. We still might have lost today and he might have thrown 3 picks, but Fitz would have left his last pint of blood on that Denver football field today as he tried to eek out a win. -
Marrone Hackett Seal Their Fate

If you like NOT scoring touchdowns for 3 + quarters. -
Good post, but I would have stopped after 1a.

Marrone Hackett Seal Their Fate
PolishDave replied to coltrane34's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Typical Bills fan mentality of the last decade plus.....acceptable being a loser. Yay! We lost but didn't get blown out! Yay! Let's celebrate. This offense is an embarrassment. This offense could suck the chrome off a trailer hitch better than a Chippewa hooker. -
Agree..Running Qb's general fade out....This sport at the NFL level is too abusive on the body. Give me a field general pocket passer. Although I admit watching Johnny Football play is a lot of fun. In my opinion Kaepernick is a very unlikable and un-charismatic person. Don't like the guy at all and would rather root against him.

I challenge anyone to go to a game at Cleveland's new open air stadium and also go to Detroit. You tell me which one is a better football experience. Cleveland's open air stadium freaking rocks. It is twice the stadium as Ford Field. You have to experience it. Buffalo already has an indoor venue..its where the Sabres play. If you like wearing a t shirt to the games in december then go there. And then you can stand and clap for your team and eat Grey Poupon on your crackers. If you get a dome your football game experience will be like a Sabres game experience. I don't know one person "with a nutsack" that would rather be in that Sabres like experience compared to the Ralph. RWS rules. Don't replace it. Don't move it. Giant waste of money. How could they possibly, meaningfully upgrade the experience you get right now at the Ralph? The place is iconic and a purely enjoyable experience. Don't fix what ain't broke.

Thanksgiving Gameday: Three Good Matchups
PolishDave replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What Bills fan in their right mind would want Dallas to win anything? Happy to see them lose every time. Wish they would lose every game. Eff them. -
Notice how quiet it is there in Detroit? And it will be even quieter now that Chicago is up 2 TD's.

Fred Jackson: "Whitner Dumb and an Idiot"
PolishDave replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With the Darryl story out now, emotions are going to be running even higher on Sunday. Cleveland fans should stay home for this one. It won't be a friendly stadium at all. Whitner should come down with the flu on Saturday. -
Has anyone talked about the blown coverage play?
PolishDave replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Suspicion confirmed. It was the safety who blew it. Gilmore did his job. -
Lets get serious CLEVELAND vs BUFFALO
PolishDave replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Come on....you're just trolling......lol I seriously want this year to be the year THE BILLS are the team that gets hot at the end and shakes things up in the playoffs. Yes it is a reach, but this team might be just good enough to do it. This is when having a good defense really matters. And everyone knows the Bills defense is for real. Let's go!! -
Every year it seems there is a team or two that come on really strong at the end of the season and make the playoffs. Once in a blue moon they even win a Superbowl (the year the Giants beat Tom Brady like a rented mule). I am not so optimistic that I think the Bills are going to win the Superbowl this year, but why can't the Bills be the team in the AFC that gets hot at the end of the season this year and surprises everyone? Let's go Bill Nation!

Lets get serious DENVER vs BUFFALO
PolishDave replied to Very wide right's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Posting on forums is like walking into a bar and striking up conversations with a bunch of drunk dudes right around "last call" time. If you say anything that is interpreted incorrectly, even though you don't mean it, somebody is going to want to punch you in the face. And once one guy starts throwing punches, the other drunks at the bar want to jump in and get in on the action too.
