SI: How the Bills are beating the NFL's best QBs
PolishDave replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Disagree... Look at the play a few more times. Rambo turns his shoulder away from the outside receiver and starts cheating towards the slot guy well before Rogers locked on him. When Rogers locked in on the slot receiver, then Rambo made a break on the ball. If that was Orton in at QB on that play, some people would be using this as yet another excuse to call him the worst qb in the league. But because it is Rogers, they say the defender made a great play instead of blaming the QB for a bad decision. -

Take notice on the play where Rambo cut in front of the receiver to intercept the ball...On that play, Rogers missed a wide open receiver at the top of the screen who looks like he would have scored 6. How come Rogers isn't being called out for throwing to the wrong guy? I guess elite quarterbacks make bad decisions too. I -
Make a mental note about the excuses and scapegoats you guys keep making for Hackett. If Hackett is back next year, the Bills offense will continue to suck, and yes, that is even if they find better guards and a different qb to play for this team. His offense sucks by design, or else he just sucks teaching it, if he can't get production out of this many different guys. The excuses are simply laughable.

Can We Spend Your Money Mister Pegula?
PolishDave replied to PolishDave's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Concessions revenues per home game are approximately $1 million per game for an NFL team which over a year equals about half of Mario's annual salary. So, in theory, if Mario didn't pay any Federal Income taxes at all, he could buy us all free beer and free food for every home game and still take home the same amount of money....Pretty cool huh.. Game ticket sales generates more revenue. The Bills get about $4.45 million for a sellout. Of that money they keep 60% or about $2.67 million. The other 40% goes to the other team. So if they sell out every regular season home game then revenues would be about $21.36 million for ticket sales and somewhere around $8 million for concessions or about $30 million combined. If you just add up the 2014 salaries of the players with the last name of Williams on the team, it exceeds that $30 million by quite a bit coming in at around $41 million. -

Can you throw me an example other than the hot read on a blitz? I just can't imagine a wide receiver being given a choice of routes to run and expecting a quarterback to know what he is going to choose. That sounds insane to me. There is a difference between adjusting how deep you go on a route and changing the route itself. For example, I get that a receiver will try to find the soft area in a coverage, and that depends on how tight the defense is covering them. But that guy isn't changing his route. He is changing the depth of the route, but still running the same basic route he was supposed to run as the play was designed. Isn't he? -
One thing I have noticed pretty much since the Pegulas took ownership of this team is that fans are pretty friggin ridiculous in their expectations of what should, what will or what is likely to happen when it comes to making changes to this team that cost money. I have heard fans say things like this: "pay him whatever he wants" "give this guy a pay raise" "Get this guy at any cost" "Tell him to name his price" "we have an owner with deep pockets now" "I don't care if this guy costs $25 million" Of course I am paraphrasing what fans are saying, but I think you get the jist. I find it humorous how free and easy fans are in making decisions when it is not their own money they are spending. This Buffalo Bills organization is a business folks. And businesses are run to make a profit. If they don't make a profit, then the capital invested in them gets itchy and wants to move somewhere it can earn a reasonable return based on the risk involved. How about using some common sense when throwing figures around? It isn't your money. Somebody has to make an intelligent decision about whether it is a worthwhile investment or not. And a lot of what is suggested around here are crazy ridiculous in terms of the financials. Even though the owner is a wealthy man, I am quite sure he doesn't intend to piss away his wealth by throwing a few extra million here or a few extra million there. If he was that careless with money, then game attendance would be free, we would eat all the free hotdogs we wanted at the games and they would give us the beer for free too. /End rant

Well thought out post. Your suggestion that receivers are making wrong reads made me think. Based on how you described it, I am not sure I agree with what you think is supposed to happen on pass plays. It is news to me if that is what is happening. I was't aware that there were reads to be made by all the receivers that changed what routes they ran. I always understood that there was a hot receiver on most pass plays where that guy would change what route he runs and the timing thereof if the defense is blitzing, but only if the defense is blitzing. The hot receiver is generally supposed to break off his route early and expect the ball right after the snap. I didn't think receivers are supposed to change their routes otherwise. They might change technique in trying to get open, but the route itself? I don't think so. In fact, I can't see how an offense could ever possibly become efficient or effective if all your receivers and your quarterback are all making changes big changes to what is supposed to happen on a play and everyone is supposed to be on the same page? It sounds like it would be way way too complicated and cause way way too much confusion. And I would completely blame the coaches if that is the system they are trying to implement. I just question whether their passing offense is really that complicated. It shouldn't be. -

Great article. It is amazing how much this team unites us as a community. What a blessing and privilege it truly is to have the Bills here. -
Should the "Shout" song be played after a FG?

Oh dude....you are so right about that friggin train whistle.....I can't stand that friggin thing. Find something else....please.....for the love of mankind.... I am pissed now. I filled out my season ticket holder survey yesterday and I forgot to mention how much I hate that friggin whistle...Dammit! -
Right now it feels like it is. We just beat a great football team and that feels good. I think Marrone can win support from a majority of fans if he manages to find a way to beat New England. If he does that and loses to Oakland, I still say keep him. If we beat Oakland and lose to New England as most people probably expect, then I will remain on the fence somewhat. Then my decision comes down to what, if anything, he says he is going to do to improve the offense. I would really like to hear what he thinks is most wrong with the offense as it is right now. And how he intends to fix it.

What if it is live to 55 or 60 instead of 85?

Lol....that is both funny and sad at the same time....nice one..

Bet he changes his mind in a few years.

I agree. I think that the single most important thing a team needs to get right over the long run is its ability to evaluate talent. I think Whaley is exceptionally good at that. And I hope he is a really long term employee of this organization. Of all the things I have seen from the Bills these last couple years, my faith in Whaley is the strongest out of anything. I really think he is that good. He will build a Superbowl caliber team very soon if he is allowed to continue this opportunity. He is at the top of his game right now. Let's keep it going.

Cutler, Orton and Manual Walk into a Bar
PolishDave replied to rfk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Orton lights a cigar and farts. Then he looks at Manuel like he was the one who did it. Manuel asks the bartender to kindly remove the rug over by the door where you walk in...they are expecting Kevin Kolb to join them. Cutler looks off into space and strikes a pose.......pretends he is too classy to be in a gin-mill like that. -
Should the "Shout" song be played after a FG?
PolishDave replied to smuvtalker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was actually pissed at one point early in the Green Bay game at how quiet and lame my fellow Bills fans were. Fans got better later on, but it wasn't until they felt like we might actually compete or even win that game. I consider it a duty as a fan attending the game to make some kind of noise when the opponent has the football. Some of the season ticket holders sitting around me are guys in their late 60's and over. So I get why they don't yell and get all worked up. But I think anyone who isn't physically limited in some way should try to help their team out even though one fan is minuscule in the grand scheme of things. I really think fans underestimate the importance of the mind game in football and other sports. Fans support is a significant factor in player performance both good and bad in my opinion. -

Should the "Shout" song be played after a FG?
PolishDave replied to smuvtalker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes I agree. In all seriousness, I think it helps the Bills to play it after every score for these reasons: 1) It is a nice long cheer that weighs heavy on the psyche of the other team who just gave up a score. You want to use every opportunity no matter how big or small to demoralize your opponent and wear him down mentally. When they hear that whole stadium rocking and chanting against them, it has to up the anxiety level just a bit. 2) It gives the Bills players a small but positive emotional boost. 3) It helps get the crowd fired up which helps on the ensuing defensive attempt to stop the opponents next drive. 4) It helps build positive momentum for the whole team because of the emotional impact of getting the whole fanbase chanting for the home team. 5) It makes for a more enjoyable game experience especially for fans who only attend a game here or there and for people who bring their kids to the game. So, if they ever choose to not play it, I certainly hope they pick something else appropriate to play in its place. I did like it back when they used to play Black Betty often. But I don't think most other songs elicit the same amount of emotion as the shout song. -
