  1. What I liked about Stevenson is not only that he is sure handed but that, because of that, he almost seems to be running as he catches and gets up field in top speed very quickly. To me, that is what made Roberts such a good returner. He wasn't overly shifty but he would get 10-15 yards up field very quickly. I think it is the reason he would run the ball out of the end zone so often. He thought he could get to the 25 before being caught and then he would have a chance to make a man miss and get better field position. He was often wrong, and it seemed like a Roberts special to get tackled at the 22, but because he kept doing it, I suspect that the coaches were okay with it. Sacrifice the 3 yards for the chance to gain an occasional 15 or 20. I noticed Stevenson mastering the same "get tackled at the 22" move, and he just reminds me of Roberts in a lot of ways. If that is a skill set the coaches value, I suspect they keep him.
  2. He was SEC player of the year (as Chris Jackson) in 88-89 and 89-90 and then went pro opening the door for his lesser teammate (a guy named Shaquille O'Neal) to win the award the next two years. He was the third pick in the draft and was 2nd team NBA All Rookie, but never quite lived up to the promise as a pro...was not great, but was very good. Although not official, it was pretty clear he was blackballed after the sitting for the anthem incident. So, yeah, a big deal was made of it and there are a lot of parallels to Kaepernick.
  3. One of my favorite plays that does not show up on a stat line was early in the game. Dalton felt the rush coming and bailed out to his right. Rousseau saw Dalton and also peeled out and took a position directly in front of Dalton. He's so big that his presence clearly bothered Dalton. I know that Mahomes is just a TAD more mobile than Dalton, but still. I think if we need someone to just disrupt Mahomes enough to help the secondary...with his size and instincts, I think Rousseau could do that.
  4. You too, we are not too worried about flooding but we live in Saybrook...essentially on a peninsula which becomes and island in big storms. I have had some health issues, so we don't like getting cut off from the rest of the world. But Glastonbury is lovely this time of year.
  5. There are some. This one had really been looking forward to laying around watching the game this afternoon....but will, instead, be fleeing the coast.
  6. Seems it was a night game...maybe even one of the re-scheduled ones.
  7. Agreed. And if we open a game dinking and dunking but never missing a pass, OTHER defenses are going to get frustrated, too. What happens when defenses get frustrated? They start cheating and trying to jump routes. So, if it is Beasley they are hitting and they jump it, Beasley turns up field and Josh hits him with that pass that wowed Sanders at the start of camp, and BAM...6 points.
  8. "Basham nearly had another JA INT. Jumped up and ball hit him in chest" That's gonna leave a mark.
  9. Sorry if this was answered elsewhere in the thread, but does anyone know how they verify college students? Is it just an edu email? I have a staff position, so I have an edu email...but didn't know if they verified student status somehow.
  10. My wife had it over a year ago and is entering a respiratory rehab program next week because her lungs never got back to normal. Yeah, many do have long term effects so lets hope Snowman is not one of those.
  11. Has been since Brady blew out his knee...diving at the QBs legs.
  12. I wonder if we might see vets with some physical issues like Feliciano and even Hughes being held out and eventually winding up on the PUP list. Could be a way to help with the numbers game of the 53 man roster and keep some of the younger players and then not have to make a decision for 6 weeks. By that time, there are likely to have been some injuries that have freed up spots. Could allow extra time to heal and keep older players fresh for later in the season.
  13. That's just wrong headed. The reason to come here is for arguments over whether blocking schemes are philosophies. Get a clue, man.
  14. Nicely written and I agree completely. We can see a trajectory and that trajectory has not leveled off, which is why I think it would be riskier to have Josh go into this season without the extension than it was to have him sign this extension. Every reporter is talking about how much better he is in this training camp than in any camp before...that he is having much better practices than he had even last year. Then would it be surprising if we see ANOTHER leap this year? Not for those of us who have watched every game and seen what you have described. Yes, it is possible that he has a less impressive year statistically and maybe we run the ball more, but it's also very possible that he has an even better year and wins the MVP....and if that happened without an extension that extension would get very expensive.
  15. Got it, I think. So, if Allen signs tomorrow, it sounds like part of that cap room could go toward the first year of the signing bonus, right? They could do something similar to what Dallas did with Dak.
  16. For those who know more about cap numbers than I do, when would we have to start paying on a signing bonus? I know they spread them out over the length of the contract, but does it spread over the last years of the current contract as well? In other words, if Josh signs tomorrow and gets an 8 year extension with an 80 million signing bonus (a crazy number, I know...Mahomes only got 10 million...but I am using a number that makes the math easy) would they pay 10 million a year starting in two years when the extension starts or 8 million a year starting this year and spread out over 10 years.
  17. The pre-season discussion used to be about what marginal talent would make the team (like those listed above), but now it is about what quality players aren't going to make it.
  18. Agreed. The narrative last year was that the Bills had made the playoffs the year because of the weak schedule. Some thought they might even improve, but still not make the playoffs because the schedule was that much tougher.
  19. For old timers there is an AFC East connection. Jacob Eason is the son of Tony Eason, former Patriots "great." Also, I kind of thought the Bills might take him but he went just before they took Fromm. Stylistically, just seemed more like Josh Allen than Fromm is.
  20. .....but then again, aren't we all? Which is why I would list the touchdown throw to Diggs in the Colts playoff game as one of my favorites. Hit him perfectly in stride so he could blow by the defender...and I remember Diggs making Allen throw a ball over in training camp to lead him like that. Agree, needs to do that even more consistently, but when he does it is a thing of beauty.
  21. Watch this and get back to me: Great Chicken Wing Hunt
  22. Yeah, most people can't bring a bottle of tequila in and place it under their seat....but the rules are not same for the rich and/or famous.
  23. Wait....so you're saying the latest Steven Nelson rumors suggest his signing creates a path to us getting Zach Ertz? Sounds like we need a new Zach Ertz thread.
  24. Also, many schools give A+ grades so they work on a 4.3 scale.
