John Murphy Show - Can't Talk To Viewers Anymore
Buftex replied to ndirish1978's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think he is blind...he is just bound not to expound... -
McDermott emerging as favorite in coaching search...

I read somewhere earlier, if McDermott gets a HC job, he is rumored to be bringing Mike McCoy along as his OC. -
John Murphy Show - Can't Talk To Viewers Anymore
Buftex replied to ndirish1978's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I listen at least a little every day. I agree, the show is much harder to listen to in the off-season. I have to say, when Donald Jones first joined the show, I thought he was really bland, and seemed to echo pretty much everything Murphy said...but over the course to the season, he has managed to develop his own personality, and has also managed the art of being critical of the Bills. He has openly been questioning who would want to come to the Bills as head coach. I don't hate Murph at all, just think he has a tough job. I certainly hope they cut back to 2 hours during the off-season...just for Murphs' sake. -
It's a possibility. Though, if we are to believe what we are hearing, this would be a Whaley pick, not a Peugla pick.

HC candidate Kris Richard interviewing 1/8
Buftex replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you are setting out to emulate one franchise with yours, the Pittsburgh Steelers are a pretty damn solid franchise to emulate. It has nothing to do with "rust belt, won some SB's" etc. etc., and everything to do with consistency and staying competitive year after year. In my lifetime of following NFL football (since 1972) there have been only a handful of years where they haven't been at the top, or near the top of their division...and they have had only 3 head coaches in all of that time. Each one has won a Super Bowl. -
Pegulas reportedly expressed remorse for benching Taylor
Buftex replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree...I never understood how not playing Tyrod in a meaningless season finale, automatically translated into the Bills being done with Tyrod. There are so many reasons not playing him, made sense. -
Schefter says decision is made - Tyrod is gone
Buftex replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I guess nothing would surprise me...but what happens when the finish 4-12, and miss the playoffs for the 18th straight year? Then they fire Whaley, and hire a new guy who wants to pick his own coach? What a mess... -
Schefter says decision is made - Tyrod is gone

Assuming these reports are true, and they are moving on from Taylor, surely they would have to have another plan in mind, other than pinning all their hopes on Cardale Jones. Anyone think, with the rumors of Lynn and Gus Bradley being joined at the hip, the Bills might be planning on taking a run at Blake Bortles? The Jags are sounding hesitant about bringing him back...just a thought. There has to be something we don't know about, isn't there? -
Things That Will Make Some Sick, But Will Happen
Buftex replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Two things... no way the Bills will bring in Cutler...and didn't I hear the same day as Whaley's PC (or maybe I am imagining it) that the Bills and Lorax were already working on a new deal? -
I have to say, I always thought was kind of a buffoon when he was in NY, and I hated the hire...but I got swept away in all the hype (see my avatar!)...I came to appreciate what having a coach with an animated personality can mean (we haven't really had one of those since Wade), but it just didn't translate into him being a good coach for players. I like the guy a lot more than I ever thought I would, and I felt kind of bad for him the way it all went down...but I know it was the right decision for the Bills. Any serious NFL people (and I think Jay Gruden is one of them) couldn't have possibly watched the Bills these last two years, and come away with the impression that they were well coached, especially on defense.
-
In all seriousness, and with no dis-respect to Rex, TV is the perfect place for him. He hasn't been a good football coach for some time...I think the truth is out there, and he isn't very likely to get another job offer.

Have folks already given up on Cardale?

Shrewd Whaley Wins Alliance battle at OBD.
Buftex replied to dezertbill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Where, when did Whaley trash Rex? I have never heard that. I think if he had, during that press conference the other day, that would have been the story from the local media, not their continued "dumpster fire" narrative. I give Whaley a lot of credit for using restraint, and suffering those fools at the press conference. He took one for the team.... -
Mario Williams to be cut by Dolphins in offseason
Buftex replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think he had a pretty great career, all in all. You can't say he was a bust, and he was one of the top 3 players at his position, most years of his career. I would guess (without actually doing it), if you pulled up a list of #1 overall draft picks over the last 30 years, Mario would rank in the upper half. Not sure that makes him a HOFer (never really on a winning team, no real signature moments that anyone remembers if not a Texans or Bills fan), but he has had a good career. -
Sully: A New Low Point For Pegula, Bills
Buftex replied to Rico's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've always stuck up for Sully....but that press conference yesterday was ridiculous, and most of it came from the press. They were like frat boys at a gang rape. They did the same thing to Rex a few weeks ago, which, honestly, I think is what lead to this awkward ending for the season. How many times did Whaley have to say "no", I'm not trashing Rex, and I am not trashing the owners, just so you idiots can have a story. So, the story becomes the "dumpster fire" because these pieces of excrement couldn't get the story they wanted. Sure, it would be nice if Pegula, Whaley, etc would just say exactly what they think, but how long have these ass-holes been interviewing people in the sports world. Like politicians, the learn to master the art of saying nothing....I give Whaley props for not just standing up and telling them off. They don't owe any of the stuff that the press is insisting to anyone. The only mistake he made yesterday, was not cutting it off at around 15-20 minutes, when it was apparent Sulliivan and company were just going to keep badgering him over the same things, which he was very clearly not going to answer. They really just wanted Whaley to say "Look, Rex Ryan was fired because he was a terrible coach. The owners were enamored by his bull **** 2 years ago and hired him, if I wanted to keep my job, which was still in question, I had to go along with it. Two years later, the owners have figured out that they made a mistake, and are trying to correct it. Is that so !@#$ing hard to understand? So there, I said it...Rex Ryan stinks, stank, stunk! We made a terrible choice, we are moving on, trying to make a better choice." But Whaley wasn't going to do that. I am not saying the Bills are not at blame for any of this. I think the Pegulas made a bad mistake, when taking over the Bills (to a lesser degree with the Sabres, because they don't have as high a national profile) in assuming that the sports media in Buffalo was going to treat them like the saviors, that most fans regard them as. They aren't good with the media. If you remember the awkward meeting Terry had with them when he first took over the Bills, and then this past summer, when the feam tried to lay down the law as to what can be covered and what cannot be covered. It is sort of a microcosm of what Trump is going through with the mainstream media right now. The president-elect seems to have taken the attitude that because he won the election, he is "right" about every issue, and questioning him makes them an enemy of the administration. The Peuglas are no where near as savy in this area. The press, and fans (lets be honest) are generally always looking to call "bs" over even the most trivial of issues. I remember Kim Pegula doing what seemed like a fairly harmless interview on GR55 when the Pegulas first bought the team. She was ripped everywhere (even on TBD, I seem to remember there being a mostly nasty thread on the topic) for the way she talked, things she didn't say..it was ridiculous. No wonder they are skittish in dealing with the media...especially this small market media, which has little else to obsess about. Also, something that I haven't really heard anyone mention...though I don't live in Buffalo any more, I go home once or twice a year. I think there is a real resentment among Buffalo elite-establishment, toward the Pegulas, for how much credit they get (particularly in national media) for "saving the Bills", and moreover, for being the most high-profile figures in a "Buffalo renaissance". If you are in any proximity to the fine arts scene in Buffalo, and you mention the Pegulas and there is only a begrudging appreciation for their efforts, and even some rolling of eyes. It makes some sense to me, that the Buffalo News is more aligned with "old Buffalo" establishment, than they are with the Pegulas, who are relatively new on the scene. Agreed Promo...I think it is most likely that Rex was the source! He is as insecure as anyone...it shows in his brash confidence. -
The fix is in-- Lynn will be the new head coach
Buftex replied to jahnyc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And if Lynn takes the job, is Whaley ok then? There is the idea that the Broncos job is, unexpectedly, open with Kubiak hanging it up. Who knows? Elway and Lynn played together on 2 Super Bowl teams...in other words, Lynn could turn down the job, because the Denver job is better for him. -
Aaron Williams' Family Wants Him to Retire
Buftex replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You know...that might not be a bad idea, for real...he sounds very comfortable on the radio. As they were signing off the show, the other host (not Ricky) said, "my man, if you do hang it up, you will have no problem finding a job on the radio". -
If we beat the dolphins/jets would we have made playoffs?
Buftex replied to Webster Guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As I recall, even if the Bills won out, they still needed the Browns to beat the Steelers yesterday, as well...Browns couldn't quite pull it off. -
Aaron Williams' Family Wants Him to Retire
Buftex replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I heard Aaron Williams on local radio (Austin), on Ricky Williams show. It was the night Rex got fired. He sure sounded like he was leaning toward retirement. -
What if Lynn does not want the job here?
Buftex replied to HelloNewman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tyrod speaking to the media, said something kind of odd..paraphrasing "I want to play for A Lynn, wherever that is". Anthony Lynn might makes some real sense in Denver. He played with Elway on two Super Bowl teams (Elway loves ex-teammates!), and they would have the personel to run Lynns' offense...especially if he brought Tyrod along with him. Lynn would also have a pretty decent head coach mentor on staff, in Wade Phillips. -
Do you think the Rex timing will backfire at all?
Buftex replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No...the Pegulas had intended to let him coach the final game...but Rex confronted them and said, "if you plan on firing me, do it now please". Pegula complied. I think that is part of the reason the last two days were handled so poorly. The Bills had intended to have it all layed out to happen next Sunday or Monday... the writing had been on the wall for weeks. http://www.sbnation.com/2016/12/27/14094760/rex-ryan-fired-buffalo-bills-rob-ryan-tyrod-taylor-future -
John Murphy Yells at 11 Year Old for Criticizing Whaley

Yelling at a 11 year old? Sounds like presidential material! John Murphy 2020!!!! -
It isn't just Bills fans...living in Texas, I distinctly remember Cowboys fans ragging all over Troy Aikman the year he won his first Super Bowl with them...it was constant... there are MAJBobby's everywhere.

Breaking News: Rex Ryan and Rob Ryan Fired

Though I am not unhappy he is gone, I do feel a little bad that it happened this way.
