  1. I wasn't a huge Marrone fan, but I didn't hate him, and wished he had stuck around. That said, while he landed on his feet in Jacksonville, doesn't it seem like Tom Coughlin is kind of running the show?
  2. Perhaps it won't be an issue with the new coaching staff, but our defense played with little effort when Kyle was out of the line-up. This is a "heart and soul" player...and he is till pretty damn good too!
  3. So, this is all getting too confusing...could the "Tyrod passed the physical" news lead to the possible filing of grievance against the Bills? Not sure if this is Florio stirring the pot, or if he has heard something... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/02/22/bills-clearance-of-tyrod-taylor-sets-stage-for-possible-grievance/
  4. I do that with pretty much everything I watch on commercial tv...except for Bills games. Where I live, though, I am lucky if there are 3 Bills games on per year, on the local stations.
  5. I know we all B word about announcers, and for the most part they do suck...but I bet you would enjoy games a little less. I have watched plenty of games in bars over the years where the audio is too low to hear, or non-existent. It is amazing how much you can miss. Personally, I don't mind commercials, though I wish there wasn't quite as many. I have transferred a ton of Bills games from VHS and DVR onto DVD's over the years, onto DVD, cutting out the commericals. Without commercials, a typical Bills game in the early 90's takes about 2hrs and 20 minutes of actual broadcast time. Nowadays, though the games take about 12 minutes longer to play, the actual broadcast time is about 2:08 minutes...we are seeing a lot more commercials, which cuts down a lot on replays, and color commentary and actual game analysis.
  6. Cool, I'll have to check that out. I hate to say it, but I almost forgot about it. Always meant to go back and read that one.
  7. Great post eball!
  8. Dwight, is that the "Birth of the the New NFL" that came out about 10 years or so, ago? Or, is there another?
  9. Though I was never crazy about the man, as a player, Fred Smerlas was terrific. He played on some of my all-time favorite Bills teams, from the early 80's. I think his book "By a Nose" is pretty damn entertaining. Probably the least milq-toast Bills book I have ever read. Lots of juicy stories, and gossip. If you were around for those Chuck Knox "Talking Proud" teams (and I'm pretty sure you were WotAGuy), this one is a great read. I would also recommend Cookie Gilchrist's ghost-written auto-biography "The Cookie that Didn't Crumble". I was born in 1965, and have been hearing about those Bills AFL Championship teams my whole life. I am too young to have have seen them, or appreciate them. This is, as far as I know, the only book written about the Bills (or a Bill) from that era that I know of. I won't say it is very well written (from what I gather, it was essentially written, in Cookies voice, using taped interviews that were done with him, in his "golden years". I always heard that "Cookie was as good as Jim Brown, better than OJ" from the old-timers, but everybody agreed that he was "mercurial". One of the early, controversial African American athletes who was seen as a "me" guy, rather than a team player. He does come off playing the victim card quite a bit during the book, but you will learn a ton about era that he played in, and some stories I never heard from the old-timers. Like the time he was busted by BPD. Also, his activities with civil rights clashing with his football career. Also, some cool stuff about the CFL of the 50's. This and the Smerlas book are, by far, my favorite Bills books ever.
  10. Man they are all pretty terrible...it might be easier to ask "name one good sports show". For me, though I know it is kind of old fashioned, I still kind of like "Inside the NFL".
  11. Not if everybody knows you will be forced to let him go, for financial reasons.
  12. The Jets are not interested in Jay Cutler (as had been rumored), but have their eyes on Tyrod Taylor and/or Mike Glennon: http://thejetpress.com/2017/01/16/new-york-jets-sights-tyrod-taylor/
  13. I like Tyrod, and I hope they keep him. That said, nobody is giving up a 1st round pick for him. Any team that wants him knows that oart of the reason his future in Buffalo is in doubt, is because of his salary, and their salary cap, mega free-agents pending. The Bills would more than likely cut him, then anyone who really wants him can go after him, on their own terms.
  14. Nobody will trade for him. The minute it becomes known the Bills are making him available for trade, I am guessing any interested teams would hedge their bets, and wait for the Bills to release him...then they could work out their own deal with him.
  15. I am with you T. I still love watching the Bills (have only missed 1 game since the 1980 season), but in general, my love of the NFL is wavering...I would be thrilled as hell if the Bills ever won a Super Bowl, but honestly, I think it would have resonated with me more if it had been one of those early 90's Bills teams that won a Super Bowl than the 2023 Bills...that may say as much about me getting older (we always remember things from our youth as the "best"), or the NFL product, or just sports in general. I know the athletes playing the games now are many times more athletic and talented than the guys I watched in my youth, but I am not always sure the games are better. Give me a little defense, and a nice 21-17 kinda game, and I am happy... The only sports team I have ever been a die-hard fan of, that has won a championship, is the Boston Celtics (sorry). Their title drives in the 80's (Bird era) are some of my very fondest sports fan memories...it was a big freaking deal. When I had given up hope on any of my teams (Bills, Sabres, Celtics) ever winning anything again, out of nowhere, the Celtics won a title in 2008. I was so stoked...it felt like old times, being glued to the tv set every other night, watching them battle through the playoffs, and then comeback in game 7 to steal a title from the hated Lakers...I was really excited...but you know what? Perhaps because we are just so over-saturated with sports that they mean less and less, within 24 hours, the sports media was already over the Celtics championship, and all they talked about was "what went wrong for the Lakers?" "What do the Lakers have to add, to give Koby a chance at a another ring?" "Does LeBron take the next step in 2009?" It was almost as if the Celtics hadn't won another NBA championship just a day or two earlier....it was a pretty joyless experience, in a lot of ways. The media, if you pay too much attention to it, will just suck the joy out of everything...as I get older, I listen and watch a lot less than I used to. I still enjoy the actual games, but the over-hype of everything is just a turn off..so I literally turn it off.
  16. You guys saying he can't catch are nuts. And, because he was healthy this year, he did some pretty nice work on the shorter, possession type routes when called upon. You have to fill out your WR spots, you could do far worse than Goodwin. We don't even know if Listenbee will be healthy...if so, why not let them duke it out over the summer? The same point where you think everyone sucks! He had at least 3 or 4 games this year where he was a good part of the passing game, and caught some tough 1st down passes. Nobody is saying he is the second coming of Julio Jones, but you could really do far worse.
  17. I know the health thing is always an issue with Goodwin (name a Bills WR that hasn't had this issue), but he stayed healthy this year. I think, when healthy, he has legit WR skills, not simply just a fast guy. I'd keep him, unless the dollars are too high.
  18. Getting Cutler would cost as much, if not far more than keeping Tyrod. At this point in their respective careers, Tyrod is a much better deal. I was always a Cutler supporter, but he has been really terrible the last two seasons...he's done.
  19. I think you are pretty wrong on this point. They care a lot...they just may not know how to get it done. We put up with Ralphs' bs for decades (and some will get their panties in a wad if you criticize his ownership) but we can't give the Pegulas a few more years to figure out the lay of the land? I hate to make this point, as it has been made many times before... sure, they want to make money...but you don't think they could have purchased teams in other markets, and made a ****-ton more than they are making in Buffalo?
  20. A true Buffalo legend... Just recently learned that Eugene Levys' on-going SCTV character, Earl Camembert, was a parody of Irv.
  21. I thought I heard that Roman was going to Cleveland to be their "passing game co-ordinator"
  22. Well, when he hasn't had P. Manning in his productive years, or Philip RIvers, McCoy was the OC for Carolina when Jake Delhomme had his best years...and most significantly, perhaps, he was he OC for the Broncos when Tebow was QB.
