I noticed something different today
eSJayDee replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Everyone including the announcers. I think it was on his TD pass to Shouman, I think it was the radio guys (watching on the net, while listening to the radio). -
This one looks better! World of World of Warcraft! LOL News Video

Is Jauron the worst head coach in the league?
eSJayDee replied to KD in CA's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What's up w/ trying to settle for a 50ish yd FG to try to win the game? Do they have that little confidence in our offense &/or Edwards? A 45 yd FG is, what about a 60% proposition? That was imprudent IMO. -
I don't think it's necessarily the system, but football experience/smart itself. I'll site a couple of examples : Edwards 2nd INT. Pat* DB has no one to cover in his zone so he puts himself to position himself to make the pick. Smart move on his part & although I would call it dumb, an error on Trent's part. Cassle's TD run. Poz takes off for his zone, leaving him 15 yds away from Cassle's now unobstructed 10 yd path to the EZ. Can't do that w/ a running QB. Smart play by the Patsie* CB that I bet not too many rookies would make & what I'd consider an error on Poz's behalf (who is sorta a rookie). Doesn't seem to me that those decisions/plays were dependent on some sort of great familiarity w/ a system, just football "smarts" in general. Catch-22 is that it's difficult to get those smarts w/o playing.

Yes. Last yr our offense was bad, as in historically so. This yr, they've transcended to an overall level of mediocrity. Our only "significant" addition is a 2nd round WR that's caught only a handful of passes. IIRC, except for our TEs, we really didn't have many injuries to the offense last yr. I believe our line started like 15 games together (Peters being the only one to miss the last game). We lost Lynch for a few games, that's it. I think we've been hit at least as badly w/ injuries already this yr, & for whatever reason, it appears that our Oline has regressed (maybe McNally really did make a diff), yet we're avging about 7 or so more pts/game and (I assume, too lazy to look up the #s) improved our 3rd down conversions considerably and are getting more overall yds.

The exact moment when CNN jumped the shark
eSJayDee replied to duey's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Was that really a hologram? Looks to me like it could have just as easily been 1 digital image melded w/ another live. She's surrounded by bluescreen, filmed, background is removed then the 2 images merged. Am I missing something? Cool, but hardly a hologram. -
I think you might be jumping to a conclusion that either isn't necessarily correct &/or isn't really statistically relevant. I looked it up & we've had 100 attempts against us on 3rd down (I assume this is thru all 8 games), meaning 12 less than last yrs pace. 1st, since our Dee has improved its 3rd down effectiveness, it means teams are sustaining drives less, therefore getting less chances. Simplistically, that ~11% improvement should amount to over 1 more attempt per game. (That's not necessarily true, but I think it's a reasonable assumption/approximation.) Also, I suspect that our offense has improved DRAMATICALLY, holding onto the ball more, thereby keeping the Dee off the field and therefore facing less 3rd down conversions. This is also further substantiated (though not proven) by the fact that our yds per pass play is about the same and our YPC is down. (If they were making more FDs on 1st &/or 2nd, that # would likely be reflected in more yds per play.) This would only not hold if the distribution of yds gained per play has changed considerably &/or they're running for more than last yr (which I assume the opposite is true).

How does resembling Marlon Brando in any way make someone more qualified to answer that?

What side is the banister on? If your knees are ailing, trust me, it's an important consideration. But yes, I'd say the default is on the right. (which somewhat equates to the above question, as most people are right handed, so if given the choice would rather have the banister on their right.)

I believe the "idiots" that he's referring to are other traders. I can only assume that some/most of the instruments that Hedge funds invest in are "zero sum games" (I used to work in Managed Futures; an industry that some (I feel erroneously) lump in as hedge funds.); it's in essence a battle of brains & for someone to be "smart" & make money, someone else needs to be "dumb" and lose money. Ergo, it IS these idiots that he is competing against that allows him to make $, not his investors.

Actually, I'd contend that the diff is only 5:29. There's 60 min in a game; if we lose 5:29, it goes to them & then TOP is equal. Certainly having your QB complete > 80% of his passes, most of them not of the Pennington variety (& no sacks) helps tremendously.

NFL policy relative to passing physicals seems like a joke
eSJayDee replied to stevewin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Assume that making a trade is much like buying something. It's certainly reasonable to have the ability to return goods if they don't live up expectations. Specific example, walk into Lowes & buy some composite decking. Bring it home, read the instructions & see that it can't span more than 16" OC. You want to build your deck 24" OC. Nowhere was it shown that the stuff was inadequate for the prescribed use EXCEPT hidden in the instructions. (BTW, I haven't made this error, but only cuz my neighbor redid his deck 1st & educated me that most stuff requires short spans. Let this be a warning to you DYIers that are considering redoing or installing a deck.) Now, let's say that Indy wants their DL to be either over 300 lbs or maybe be able to bench press 400. (Or perhaps in this case have a certain amount of flexibility/motion in their back/spine). They give him a physical & find he only weighs 298 (despite him being listed at 307). They've just "bought" goods that was not what they expected. It's reasonable that in a good faith transaction, they be allowed to return said merchandise. -
I is a very amusing show; LOL at times. BTW, the show that clip was from has already aired.

Another gas price thread...its been a while...
eSJayDee replied to The Poojer's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Rather perturbed that it hasn't come down more. Friday, NYMEX price was down to $1.80 front month (it was up about 11¢ Monday); I reckon that should equate to less than $3.00 at the pump here in NYS. (Figuring about $0.60 in taxes & maybe $0.20 profit for the operators. Cheapest I've seen is about $3.15. This is Albany, BTW. -
Again, I would contend that it's consistent; perhaps I didn't fully explain my reasoning. Yes, if a kick gets blocked directly out of the EZ it is & should be a safety (AFAIK). But, if the ball doesn't go directly out, and a "scrum" ensues, if the rcving team is unable to gain possession, it loses possession. (I'd like to point out that's what happens on a "partially" blocked kick - if the rcving team leaves it alone, it's their ball once it dies; if they try to play it & fail to fully gain possession, it's a free ball & if the kickers recover, it's theirs, 1st & 10. I had assumed that the only way it would be a touchback was if the kicking team tried to advance/recover the ball & failed to do so. (I don't watch or know much about college ball, but can you advance a blocked kick?) I realize that Lett's was a fumble, but it is the probably the most recognizable play (not just for us Bills fans) where the "out of the EZ" rule would come into play.
-
Interesting. But after thinking about it, I guess it's consistent. Think of the Lett/Beebe play & those similar. Ball is fumbled or is otherwise loose and it rolls out of the endzone w/o the "offensive" team recovering. The ball goes back to the team who was defending that endzone - touchback.

Wow. You do give your employees everything. I'm not familiar w/ ANY regular vehicle where the drivers seat is anywhere but in the interior. (I have seen some pretty cool mods of vehicles where the relocate the seats & controls to elsewhere.)

You gotta be F$#%^ing kidding me. I could understand the Patsies* 9ers, but why would anyone chose to telecast that up here, especially the network that shows AFC games?

I'll have a scoop of Itty Bitty Titty
eSJayDee replied to /dev/null's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Actually, it's one of the few things that PETA advocates that makes sense. Unfortunately, I suspect that it in no way is even remotely feasible. I can only imagine the INCREDIBLE quantity of milk B&J needs to produce all that ice cream. Even if they managed to get the surplus from EVERY lactating woman in the US, I doubt it'd be sufficient. Retail, milk is what $3/gal? I can't imagine the "raw" cost of milk could be more than $1/gal. Never been around a lactating woman enough to know their output, but what can they produce, maybe an extra gallon or 2 per week? Ladies, would you sell all your surplus milk for a few bucks? Can't imagine it's worth the effort & discomfort. -
Why it isn't wise to keep the demoted QB as Backup
eSJayDee replied to billfan63's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And someone they pick up off the street is going to immediately garner the respect of the team? No. I think what one SHOULD infer from the comments is that they DO FULLY respect and trust Edwards. They do not DISrespect JP (or Hamdan) (or at least I don't think that in ANY way is implied), he just hasn't earned their full respect like Edwards has. AFAIC, there's no reason to assume that he isn't thought of as a better alternative to anyone else. -
What was the explanation for that simultaneous possession?
eSJayDee replied to Mickey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I tend to believe it WAS the correct call. I don't have a copy of the recent rules (my dog ate my copy from a few yrs ago - seriously), but I hear mention of making a "football action" after catch to validate possession. (Which sort of trumps the simultaneous possession rule IMO). Evans was unable to make a "football related move" after gaining possession cuz he never had exclusive possession. The ball popped out after he hit the ground (at which time both players jointly possessed the ball) after which the Raider guy caught it b4 it hit the ground. -
I think it was the prudent choice. I believe that statistically slightly more than 50% of 2pt tries are successful. Take into consideration that the # is likely skewed lower than your actual %age due to being "forced" into the decision. Right at the end of the game like that, It basically boils down whether or not you think you have a better than 50% chance of making a 2 yd play. Considering the offensive production in that game, it would seem to be the smart thing to do.

What sort of clout would like the local Time Warner "office" have? Us w/ TWC are stuck w/ whatever the local affiliate shows, w/o even NFL Network replays available. It's in TW's best interest that the product that they offer (retransmission of local affilate) is the best possible product and that we not seek alternatives, i.e. satellite TV.

Didn't find it that funny. Then again, maybe it did hit a bit too close to home.
