This is a fair and good point. That being said, of all the people “in the know” around the Bills including local media and other more credentialed writers, it is surprising to me they were the first to report this as they aren’t typically the outlet who is making headlines. Has this been sourced by anyone else yet btw? We live in a sports society that is all about fast takes. When you’re wrong; it’s often forgetting and we’re into the next story. I don’t think it would really damage their credibility with bills fans at all.

Questioning and validating sources is a good practice and something, frankly, people in our country need to do more of. Without getting political, I don’t see anything wrong with wondering how valid a reported source is for something that has been widely speculated. I am asking honestly, not trying to sully a name. C1 is generally not thought of as a proactive media outlet. They’re more of a responsive unit. And would it really knock their credibility if they were wrong? I can name a ton of millionaire media reporters, internet gurus, film junkies etc who have been wrong before yet people still post them like they’re gospel.

I am not saying they are wrong, but is this really. “Sourced” insight. How connected are these guys? With the activation and signing, they are carrying 7 WRs PLUS Gabe tomorrow. It’s likely two of the original 6 will be inactive. Given the McD comments and tape online, it seems to make sense. Could this just be a connecting of the dots vs actually reporting?

I will give you Palmer. But Gabe was on pace for a whopping 410 yards last year (prorated from 10 games). I am not sure what makes anyone think that his return would elevate the passing game. It’s wishful thinking of the fairy dust off 13 seconds.

I’m sorry - what am I missing? People are now suggesting that Mecole Hardman should be activated and will somehow add to the offense? The guy who couldn’t hack in on the injury riddled Green Bay practice squad will suddenly elevate this team? They think he is poised to take over for Shakir if injured more so than 9 mil per year Samuel? Boy are some ppl WR starved. Many delusion takes, similar to those that were thinking Gabe will come in and solve the offensive woes simply by replacing Keon. They are likely the same ppl that ran him out of town. Btw I think Gabe is a super likable due who was overvalued, over paid, and had a stroke of bad luck with injury and regime change. That said, to think he’ll somehow step in and turn the offensive passing struggles around is farfetched.

It’s going to be hilarious to see how fast people abandon Gabe Davis right after selling him as some magic elixer. Spoiler alert: Keon Coleman aside, this offense will not have ANY measurable or perceived difference if you were to just simply swap Keon and Gabe. While we’re at it, bring back Isiah McKenzie to replace Curtis Samuel and we’ll be all set.

Well I must say watching the Pats/Bucs rewind was frustrating…mostly because it looked like one I thought the Bucs should have gotten. Here are the two big Henderson runs. I posted them because of the likeness to some of what we do. Pretty awful secondary tackling and angles allowing the big scores (sounds familiar). The first is interesting because it’s out of 11 personnel, but with Mac Hollins as a wing, so we will call this 11 BIG. It’s a duo right at ya and the corner and safety just blow it here. The game sealing score was a full on student body left, outside/toss zone with a lead blocker. The edge was just completely lost and it was off to the races with guys taking poor angles trying to come up and get a stop for minimal gain. These are both concepts the Bills run, just evidence that if we can get Cook to the second level…look out! PS #8 on the Bucs is trash. Run at him all game.

Overly simplistic fix to make the offense more readily versatile: start using the pistol formation.

It’d be nice to see. I am skeptical. The issues we had running the ball against Miami were: 1) execution - too many missed blocks, physically beaten or mental errors across mostly the left side of the line and the tight ends. 2) defensive alignment - the 5 man defensive front Miami played our heavy personnel with allow their LBs to play relatively clean and downhill. That created a lot of issues at the second level. The traditional 3-4 look that Tampa will play with will be similar. 3) No differentiation in the run game - we really run the same 4-5 running plays over and over with minor variations. It’s mid zone, outside zone, power/counter and duo. Now to be fair they run these about a million different ways but the bones are all the same. Brady has to counter this. How? That’s his job to know. But I will speculate for fun: I’d like to see more heavy personnel usage from the gun. I think that gives them the ability to run AND pass which will put more pressure on the Lbs. How about the return return of the quick hitting TE pop pass, introducing new quick hitting misdirection in the run game (trap, wham) and rolling Allen out flooding a side of the field getting him on the edge in a dual threat position. Should be a fun one!

Similar concept here, condensed formation and better execution on the cook fumble. 22 personnel outside zone lead. More solid work upfront from the hogs (Dawk solo, double from Edwards/McGovern to the backer). Again, intentionally bringing guys into the box to get a hat on a hat quickly. It puts a lot of stress on the defense, creating extra gaps to account for. Here you see the gigantic D gap between the TEs is exactly where we lead. You’d like the Hawes Gilliam combo to come off to the corner not pictured initially, and Knox to not allow his guy backdoor access and it’d be Cook 1v1 with the safety. Scheme is sound, execution is good, result is awful because of a heads up play by Miami.

Here is a cut up of an example of how a condensed formation, this with a heavy personnel, is intentionally clogging the box. Here we see a heavy formation out of 22 personnel (Hawes, Knox, Gilliam, Cook). This is essentially a weak side mid zone that almost pops. We are 8 v 8 here in the box, and if Knox can get his head across the safety who rolls in late (with the motion) it’s Cook vs Corner and a lot of green grass to work with. The flow here in the zone is perfect. Everybody working in unison here, good double to the inside backer and Gilliam with a nice seal on the edge. The scheme here is exactly what I’ve been referencing up thread. They are intentionally bringing bodies to the party, but this is what happens when 1 guy doesn’t execute. It gets blown up and we think the scheme is bad. Nothing wrong here with this design IMO, in fact, I really like it. I just don’t like the 17 million dollar player getting beat across his face.

I’d like to edit my previous post and pass blame to Brady and the scheme of this play given the situation and not put it on Torrence. Having watched the endzone angle, I was forgetting he is likely coached up NOT to work up to the double team because of the baked in pass option in the bubble. You can see how aggressively he works laterally, and never makes an effort to work to the second level. That said, the dolphins made a good play on this. Maybe you want a better block from Spencer Brown on rookie first rounder Kenneth Grant but ultimately it seems like they were predetermined to run the ball here and the scheme of the play left an inside backer unblocked on 3rd and 1.
