Do you think there are any “honest” relationships right now?
JoeF replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I speculate that there has to be some level of honesty when it comes to dealing. On the Colts-Jets trade -- I am sure Beane and Ballard had an on-going dialog. The Bills made a not to exceed offer and Ballard got a better deal from the Jets. My speculation is that with the draft being dealing for picks, it's even more collaborative than a player trade. They go by the value chart but as you rise in draft position there is a premium to the value chart. Again, pure speculation, but I firmly believe Gettleman and Beane have a deal. Beane has to acquire either 6 or 7 to make the deal happen and then give up more assets to get to #2. It will all happen in 15 minutes on draft night if the Browns pick Darnold and the Giants want to move down. I also speculate that Beane let #3 go because Gettleman said 6 or 7 with next year's first is fine to get the #2.... This kind of "honesty" translates to the corporate world. I was involved in a fairly large acquisition that happened when a CEO who was being acquired called my CEO at the time (both had NDAs with the acquiring company) and my CEO decided he could better the offer. They got the proposed acquiring CEO on the phone -- talked about the offer from my CEO and the acquiring CEO did not want to match. We ended up with the company. -
Moving up to #2 = No Playoffs for the next three years

I guess I imagined a team that: 1) Held the Falcons pretty much in check on their home turf 2) Beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead 3) Mostly stayed in and won a few games the Bills would normally lose. Except for a one-game brain fart (that carried into three games) by a rookie head coach where he benched the starting QB in favor of a not ready rookie.. Newsflash-- but these guys can coach. I know its hard to believe -- but the Bills can actually out game plan some NFL teams. This roster will be more talented come 5 PM April 28th than it is today no matter what the Bills do and it will be more talented on August 30th, 2018 than it was on August 30, 2017. Does that make the Bills a playoff team in 2018 -- no-- but the premise that the Bills are automatically eliminated if they trade to #2 and draft Mayfield, Rosen or Darnold is not a very sound one. It's just as valid to believe that the Bills go on a Philly like run with a franchise rookie QB and a really good back-up QB who thrives in the "O" system they will be running. I know its difficult for us Bills fans, but think positive. -
Rex Ryan expects the Bills to make huge offer for #2.

Is he an insider since he's still on the payroll? -
Was drafting Keith Clark in 1981 worth it?

Ouch...that hurt. -

Won't happen. A 7th round 2022 still has positive value on the draft value chart. We need to move below zero to get a good comp value. -

This concept jumped the shark about 6 threads ago. Think of something a little more unique. Show us your creativity. -
Picked up Bruce Arians and he is consulting with them on the choice...

Fred Warner, LB/SS - BYU http://www.nfl.com/draft/2018/profiles/fred-warner?id=2559870 Kevin Tolliver, CB, LSU http://www.nfl.com/draft/2018/profiles/kevin-toliver?id=2560223 Tolliver is a behavior issue who will drop due to off-field stuff. He was most disciplined when Tre' White was around him. He is tall and fast with loose hips.....has great potential.

Mike Mayock:. QB draft order... Darnold, Allen, Jackson.
JoeF replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Scare the crap out of me. It has to be a significant factor in evaluating him...If you move up to take him you have to view it as a 10-year investment in a player. Rosen's concussions make it like a bitcoin investment -

BLM...not tied into the rosary sect of the church Probably should be. I am usually hoping I don't have "sudden old fart death syndrome" while I am doing cardio, but want to make sure I have all my acts of contrition and hail Mary's in case I do... It would be a good idea to have your mom's rosary folks praying for AJ. Look what its done for Sister Jean and Loyola Chicago. BTW, Sister Jean made me laugh today when a reporter asked, "What did you give up for Lent?" She said "losing".. Final note..Most people think Saban is an arrogant SOB...Everyone I know who knows him says Miss Terry runs the show/family/external activities and allows Coach to solely focus on football. He is fiery but loyal to a fault. McCarron might just be his personal favorite..but he would never say that publicly. A couple of years ago -- McCarron was publicly critical of Alabama's offense (after he graduated)..Nick blasted him but in a "dad" sort of way. They are very close...

That was awesome.....BLM believe it or not--I pray the rosary every day while I am running or on the elliptical. My mom is my inspiration. I had no idea McCarron was this dedicated to his faith. Coach Saban loves him--Coach Saban also talks frequently about how his faith formed him and he and his wife funded the Catholic Student Center at Alabama. Maybe the Saban-McCarron bond is a little faith-based. Bottom line--Coach Saban thinks we got a steal (from a friend with deep ties to the program). He was pushing McCarron to Daboll. Also, Belichick did want McCarron to back up Brady. McCarron wants to start but he knows it's up to him to win the job. The Bills presented an opportunity the Pats could not, a chance to compete.

Again, bills HAVE called up to browns for first overall
JoeF replied to *******'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Breaking News: Beane has also called the Giants, Broncos, Bucs, 49ers, Raiders about their picks....anyone outside the division has received a call. Unfortunately, for those of us getting a little worn down by the speculation threads (yet I am still freaking clicking them), I have a feeling this will go down on draft night. What will be interesting to see is how many of the 4 "top" QBs the Bills view as worthy of moving up....if all 4 are rated somewhat equally, the Bills can likely focus on the Browns at 4 or the Colts at 6 or both (Trade for the 6 and then package to get to 4); if its just 2 of the 4 -- the Giants will be the focus and the ransom will be heavy. -
On a recent trip, I sat next to Eric's grandfather.. Phenomenal man. PhD in psychology. International traveler and education ambassador. Very tied to LSU. Eric's dad was an NCAA champion hurdler at LSU. They are a great family. Really impressive. Grandpa calls Eric after every game with a critique. I'd be all for this. I think he would get 50-60% of the snaps as a hybrid LB/SS and the Bills would not likely need a slot corner because Hyde could slide down in 3rd and long. Eric has a great skill set and he fits the McBeane mode. Wouldn't mind drafting Justin either. I think McD doesn't see much difference between corner and safety in his scheme...this might be a fit.

Pretty sure double murder with a knife is exempt if you are a Bill or ex-Bill.

Always liked him. My only concern is I want O'Leary on the field a lot this year. I think he is going to be AJ's or the Rookie's security blanket. I am seeing 40+ catches from Nick this year....

Rumor: Trade up discussion with Giants
JoeF replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Several of our posters have speculated on a package like this...so IB is probably throwing his normal **** against the wall. This particularly low risk for him. If the deal never gets done, he says Gettleman didn't want to deal; if it gets done for more, he says they negotiated; if it gets done for less--he can claim the price went down when there was no other demand (highly, highly unlikely). But he will claim credit for the breaking news. I think Gettleman really wants 1-2019...and it will be part of the deal. This will give him his QB next year. The Bills may get to keep 65 and 2-2019 if we add it. -
I got this one after he made it to OBD and was working out..

Bodine and Newhouse will be experienced depth if signed. They will likely need to beat out folks like Connor McDermott to make the final 53.
