  1. When I lived in an area where Johnsonville was my best choice for Italian sausage I started making my own sausage. It was quite a come down from Scipione and Scime---and frankly even Topps and Wegmans. BTW, I say that when I live in an area now that doesn't have all that much better. But strangely Publix's Greenwise Hot Italian Chicken Sausage is pretty damn good. Hard for me to even admit.
  2. I friend of mine down here in St Augustine, used to live in Saranac Lake. She LOVED living there, she said. But she was a hippy chick, so there is that.
  3. Why do people take the extreme argument approach to things? Where was there any talk about being hammered? Yes, it is true, some fans get totally hammered. Too many for my taste---and I've been one of them in the past. I almost never get hammered anymore, but I still enjoy a few cocktails while watching a game. In fact, many of the people you see at the Mafia tailgate party aren't hammered at all. But many seem to act like it when they are together. Well put. And one of the reasons I seriously doubt there will be an alcohol ban should there be games with fans. Calmness is the right reaction at the moment, IMO, because there is NOTHING to see here. It was simply a remark by a guy. A "I can see this happening" with NOTHING else to support it. It is Peter King, but in this case, he's just a guy who has a column. There is no mention of rumors or something like "Talking with NFL insiders, I believe they may be thinking,,," Nope. Nothing of the sort. Just a guy thinking hypothetically out loud, in public. is it necessary? For most people I'd say, "probably not". But do you spend your life doing ONLY what is absolutely necessary, and no more? Pretty dull way to go about your life, IMO. Much, if not most, of life's enjoyable moments probably can be categorized as "not necessary". And just take a second to think: Why are there thousands of sports bars, but very few sports coffee shops or sports ice cream parlors? Alcohol is an enjoyable part of many modern American's lives. Having a drink while watching a game is tradition, maybe even a habit. People hate to change their habits and cling to tradition. Plus, as you may not know, drinking can be fun.
  4. Yes, I don't think the Pats* will beat the Bills twice this year. You do? Any reason (other than cheating, of course)? And given the lack of an offseason program, I will be extremely impressed if the Bills win both of their games on the West Coast. I think 4 in a row to start the year is a bit more likely than loosing to NE* twice. But I'm going to guess they drop one of the first four. I see The Senator changed his handle.
  5. Bills loosing to NE twice? Seriously? Not sure I buy the 4-0 to start the season, either.
  6. Love the R Rich countdown!
  7. Links are my preference. And as Chef has already mentioned, they should be in intestines, not collagen casings. But a good patty can be fine on a grill if all you have are round rolls. Since I no longer have my sausage making equipment, I will sometimes just make sausage patties out of pork I have ground at the store. One more thing. Slices from a link should NOT be put on a pizza. Ground, or crumbled sausage is the way to go.
  8. A good grilled ham and cheese (or bacon and cheese) is a great thing. Really hard to beat. Bowl of tomato soup and you are golden!
  9. Been a straightdope fan for many years---when it was still just a print thing. So sad when Cecil retired. What I found particular interesting is the people on the SD forum seem as upset as Caren for the way she spells her name as much as anything else. I can relate to that.
  10. If you guys are baking, you should stop NOW! You are stealing bread from Caren and her children! https://www.wonkette.com/no-one-can-bake-bread-anymore-because-this-lady-needs-all-the-yeast-for-herself (Unfortunately Caren's original rants are no longer available on Medium.) And a little humorous discussion on the Straight Dope forum: https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=895454 For the record, I'm only baking medical marijuana treats (cookies/brownies/muffins/etc) but I simply modify a mix. Cook homemade. Bake semi-homemade.
  11. All the "talk" I see here is simply a one-off, random piece of speculation by King. No rumor, no source---no talk. Just "I could see..." And for now, at least, there is NOTHING to see here. With that said, "I could see alcohol consumption at tailgate parties increasing significantly."
  12. Isn't MW basically mayo with added sugar? Like lipstick on a pig. Mayo's ugly/trashy step sister.
  13. When I was a kid we usually had Miracle Whip in the house. But I really don't understand mayo or MW. Mostly just tasteless oozing goo, IMO. Reminds me of puss, in a way. And why is it always slathered on stuff? I think this is white peoples' (WASPS') way of "spicing things up". * *Horribly racist, I know. But I have a lot of white friends.
  14. Crusty Italian bread or roll. Trusello's bread was always my favorite. Hot capicola, spicy salami (Calabrese or Sicilian) and Imported Stravecchio Provolone. No condiment whatsoever. Wash it down with good red wine or a cold beer.
  15. RIP, Mr. Shula. Marv wrote this nice piece on Shula back in 1996, upon Don's retirement. https://vault.si.com/vault/1996/01/15/the-last-of-the-legends-a-respectful-rival-wonders-if-we-will-ever-see-the-likes-of-don-shula-again
  16. I have to admit, this shocked me a bit. I expected the Pats* or the Jagoffs. I'm glad he didn't go to the Pats*, obviously,
  17. All I can add is, my Pats* fan friends were LIVID when they picked Dugger. "They drafted a ST guy in the second round?" was their response. I actually tried to tell them he looks to be a very talented and versatile DB/LB. The kind Belicheat* covets. He could be the next Chung. They weren't having it. EDIT: I should add, that made me very happy. They think BB* has lost a couple "steps".
  18. Good idea, but I'm officially out of sanitizer (unless I can find the bottle's I know I have somewhere). I do keep hand cleanser/water/paper towels in my car, though,
  19. Has anyone received a mask from them yet? I'm just curious to know: how long did it take, and what what did you think of the mask itself? Also, since I didn't see it mentioned (which means little as I'm doing a lot of skimming these days) I think you should be careful HOW you take your mask on an off. I'm someone who never wears a mask in my house, car, on a walk in an open area. I try to always wear one when I'll be interacting with other people. I was taught to handle the mask by the strings if necessary---but basically, never touching the outside of the front of the mask. Then when you put it back on, you are using fingers (even if gloved) that could be infected, As always on this stuff, I defer to Hapless or any of the doctors/medical scientists on the forum.
  20. i think that's the point. Myths get repeated so often people think they are the truth and repeat them ad nausea. It's really probably not the right interpretation, so let's not suggest it is, every time the opportunity presents itself.
