  1. My favorite of the big brewery offerings. Sometimes the beer store in Dunville (near where we go) is sold out for weeks. So I do a bit of research to see which Beer Stores have it on the way up. And The Ridge House was the place I was referring to. Way back when the place was fun. I remember the McLeod Hotel, too.
  2. Thanks. Makes perfect sense. Far more than Good Times.
  3. Let me try to fix that. People without power and influence typically get punished when they get caught breaking the law. I'd say a small percentage of people who break the law actually get punished for it. Most don't get caught. Many skate because of who they are/know/etc/ With that said,. Oliver probably deserves some punishment and will probably receive some.
  4. A couple times on the way to our cottages we stopped at Brimstone Brewing Company. And I used to date a girl whose family owned a place in Thunder Bay. Nice area. Still wished the old Ridgeway bar/restaurant on Rte 3 was stil open.
  5. Did his brother wear #5 at some point? That would make sense.
  6. Thelma! Man oh man was she hot.
  7. Closure extended to July 21st today.
  8. I've been to Lynch's a few times, but not so far this year. It's close to my medical marijuana doctor, so I typically stop for one (maybe two) before the appointment. That's exactly the sort of thing I predicted when they started loosening things up. Despite a (very soft) message to still continue to socially distance and a (weak) recommendation to wear masks, the message I believed most people would process is "All's well. They wouldn't allow us to do this if things weren't safe enough."
  9. I considered posting this very thought. But based on Mead's response, I thought it was a bit too harsh. Still, good line. Isn't the standard length for figurative poles TEN feet? (And, yes, I get the six feet reference.) Aside: I worked at Channel 5 in Boston in the 80's. Their slogan was "We give a 105%". It was there before I arrived. As is my habit I immediately complained. Not only does that sound like a radio slogan (FM 105), but any self-respecting moron knows the MINIMUM people claim to give is 110%! We weren't even giving what the normal ridiculous claim suggests. We kept the slogan. It was popular. Apparently people don't expect commercials to actually make logical sense.
  10. In in a position (fortunate or unfortunate?) where I expect to have to work til I drop. I guess the answer to whether it is fortunate or unfortunate depends on how long I live.
  11. My group of friends will not be getting together in our cottages in Canada for the first time in--(Let's see, how old am I? When did we first start going?...) well, conservatively 45+ years. Yes, one of us missed the occasional year due to life's circumstances, but the even goes on! We're looking at dates in September as a possible makeup date.
  12. I ended mine, and also ended my VOIP a few years ago. BUT if I could get an old school landline connection for a reasonable fee ($15/month maybe?) I'd considerate it for real emergencies. I wouldn't keep a phone on it for the most part, but it would be there to plug on into in case of emergency.
  13. I think Spectrum's "landline" like Comcast's and AT&T U-Verse's, isn't really an old school landline. It runs through the internet. You will need external power for those to work. One way to check. Put an old fashioned (no power cord needed) phone in the jack. Kill all the power to the house. See if you get a dial tone. IMO, those are simply spam call collectors. But if your cell signal is bad, you may actually need one to make emergence calls and such. You can get a VOIP landline for about $40-50 a year.
  14. Indeed. As has already been stated multiple times, there are simply too many fantastic guitarists, in various genres and with varying styles, for lists like this to have much meaning. They are simply fodder for clicks, discussions, arguments, etc. With that said, I still think any "best guitarist" list with Brian May at the top is to be ignored.
  15. As I have previously addressed all of them, I believe, I'll leave you to defending officers to filed a false report and left an old man to bleed on the street with zero compassion.
  16. People have varying individual reactions to psychedelics. There is no "one response". If you'd done enough, with enough people, you'd already know that. I've had many different reactions myself. With that said, I question it too.
  17. OK. Just one more Defend their lying on the official report. And also their inaction once they saw he was actually injured. Mayor Brown said the orders were to protect those on the scene, use common sense, etc. I can't currently find the link. I'll try again when I have the time. But, let me be clear, as Brown is a politician, he could be lying too. I understand that. Not that you probably care, but and ex BPD commissioner refers to the police action as "assault". https://buffalonews.com/2020/06/14/former-bpd-commissioner-kerlikowske-saw-the-video-he-calls-it-assault/ So to other police chiefs and commissioners from what I've read and seen. Yes, everyone has an opinion. But I've seen nobody sensibly defend the LIES they told on their reports, or their total callousness toward a bleeding old man.
  18. I think that's smart. If you are going to have a landline in the house, might as well be a REAL landline and not one that requires external power. With that said, I no longer have one. But once the Zombie Apocalypse starts (I think in a week or two), it might be the only way to communicate remotely.
  19. I said I had made my last post in here a few posts ago. So I will leave it at this: I don't know what he was doing. Looks to me like an older man trying to have a conversation (and maybe waste some of the officer's time). Maybe agitating a bit, hoping to get arrested. Maybe trying to show them something. As a private citizen he is not required to have a plan to prevent being physically pushed by an officer. OTOH, an officer on duty must have a reason for their actions. It comes with the job. Unless it constituted a real physical threat to the officers, it really doesn't matter. Judging from the video i'm pretty sure he wasn't an immediate physical threat to this group of heavily armed and protected officers. So no matter what he may have been up to he shouldn't have been pushed to the ground. The officers who pushed him should not have kept walking past him as if nothing happened. And damn sure they shouldn't have lied about what happened in their report. But I'm sure some of you will find a way to excuse the lie these officers told, to avoid telling the truth about what happened.
  20. Again, it appears to me he MIGHT be trying to get the first officer to take a look at something on the phone. Then it appears he is just gesticulating with his hands* and the phone is in his hand. But sometimes people's hand motions don't always look to be coordinated with what they are saying. Particularly older people. I mean I've seen some pretty bizarre gestures from Biden and Trump. * The man's last name is Gugino, which might mean he is of Italian descent. So that wouldn't be too unusual to use a lot of hand movement when talking (I'm looking at me here!). So let's see, I've managed to invoke an Italian stereotype and insult older people. Maybe I'll stop here.
  21. To me, it seems like is trying to get the officers to look at something on his phone. I can't say for sure, but that's what it looks like to me.
  22. I'll try to make this my last comment here, but one more thought occurs to me. Perhaps it has been mentioned by others, if so I missed it. Aren't officers trained to de-escalate in these kinds of situations? I thought that, unless they were in in real apparent danger, they were taught to diffuse tensions when there was limited risk. Perhaps I am mistaken on this. Maybe it isn't a universal principle of police work. Because I see no attempt to de-escalate here from any officer, before the old man was shoved (pushed/whatever). I applaud and appreciate those officers and even police chiefs who chose to communicate with the protesters on a human level. Some even knelt and marched with the crowd. I'm curious to know how much violence and looting there was when the authorities took that approach, instead of the strictly domination-centered route. Is there any data available on this?
  23. Pirate fan here (was a HUGE Pirate fan in my youth) and this is one of my favorite stories. I too had a hard time believing it, but I think it is probably true. Remember Jim Bouton's story about Mickey Mantle? This is a recounting of the story in Ball Four. What's missing is they claimed publicly Mickey was missing the game because he had bruised ribs. So the reporter was interested in how Mickey could hit the HR with damaged ribs. Not the same as pitching on acid, though.
