  1. It is seemingly more about the locker room size.* Pretty cramped when compared to MLB. If I had to play during this, I'd want as much space as possible, I suppose. Might be a bit of a "respect" and "credibility" thing in the minds of some, as well. But I haven't seen anyone disparage Buffalo in particular during this. As sensitive as we tend to be when people take shots at the area, you'd think one of us wouldn't invent a shot when one was not taken. * And the facilities in general might not be up to the standards of most (any?) MLB parks
  2. When and where did you read/hear/see this? I've done a bit of searching and can't find anything even remotely close to this. What I'm seeing is the players want to play in a Major League Ball Park. Absolutely no particular knock on Buffalo. If they did actually take a swipe at Buffalo for ickyness, can you provide a link of some sort?
  3. Are you saying everyone is born evil, and must simply choose not to be evil. Or everyone is born both with both good and evil capabilities and chooses between the two? This was my knee-jerk response. I went to SUNY Albany and lived on campus the first year. Their dining halls at the time were notorious for having seriously disgusting food. (I lived in State Quad, but all of them were pretty bad.) One day we hung a huge banner in the dining room. It read: Albert Fish Memorial Dining Room
  4. Truly a great and inspiring man. I was going to say they don't make them like that any more but realized they've never made many like that.
  5. I wanted to add, I think I get MORE thank you messages than in the past, since they are easier to send via text and email. At the end of the last century, they were very few and far between. I admit to slacking a few times myself. But I've always been a bit lax in remembering stuff like birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine's Day, etc. On the other hand, I tend to do special things for others at random times for no particular reason. It sounds good when I say it to myself, but doesn't necessarily go over too well with girlfriends and such.
  6. An exceptionally moronic response. I find I get thank you texts or emails. It's the thought that counts, not how it is expressed.
  7. Florida has some drive up locations where you do not need to make an appointment. You may have to wait in line (in your car) for quite awhile, though. I'm getting blood work done later this week. Going to see if I can throw a Covid test, and antibody test, on top of it. Hopefully it doesn't break the bank.
  8. Virtually nothing is 100% effective. Yes, people will lie or not be completely truthful. And there are mayors and governors who won't mandate masks because they worry about enforcement. Yet those cities/states still have jaywalking laws on the books. Many have laws against smoking pot. These laws are VERY' hard to enforce, but they are still on the books. And, when the police choose to, they enforce these laws. Truth seems to be, when it's a LAW most people tend to comply. It seems to me compliance drops significantly when it's just a "suggestion". I don't have any data to support that at the moment unfortunately. But just look at the behavior ( and the infection rate) when things went from totally locked down to more open but "we recommend you try to be good". It's a freaking disaster here in Florida. BTW, it also helps businesses who want to enforce a policy to be able to say "it's the law!" With that said, you make a good point. Fortunately there are social pressures that will help with contact tracing. If you won't comply your wife, brother, friend might be very cooperative in reconstructing your contacts.
  9. You got that right. Even in NYC and LI you could get a great egg sandwich FAST and very inexpensive. Now, I haven't had been back in a couple years, but I suspect it is still the case. In St Augustine you can get an BEC. Sometimes you can get it on a roll, but they always seem to want to put it on Texas toast, which sucks. They are usually poorly made. Usually use a microwaved scrambled egg patty too. The kicker? $6.50, if you are lucky.
  10. IF the games are played (a big if) they will likely be played without fans, IMO. In that case, I'd argue attendance records stay intact, since you have no choice in the matter.
  11. I have a couple rather minor USPS issues. One really isn't with the Post Office but rather the tenants next door. The apartment next door (in my building) is rented to medical students taking a board certification course here in St Augustine. They stay in the apartment anywhere from 4-8 weeks. Well, many of these folks do a change of address at the PO, which i think is fairly ridiculous for temporary housing---but maybe they are between residences, I guess. The issues occur after they move. We still get mail to people who haven't lived here in years. Important mail, sometimes. No biggie. I just write "No longer at this address" and stick it back in the mailbox. Well, about half the time the mail carrier takes that mail, and leaves new mail to the exact same person. Seriously? WTF? We get very few pieces of mail. How hard is it to take a second to make sure you aren't putting mail in the mailbox with the same name as the mail you are taking to return? For this I blame both the old tenants and the carrier. But mostly I just wanted to say, read Post Office by Charles Bukowski. https://www.amazon.com/Post-Office-Novel-Charles-Bukowski/dp/0061177571
  12. Over easy or poached are my favorite. A hard yoke really ruins an egg for me. I feel the same way about scrambled. Cooked very slow (with small bits of hard butter mixed in, that slowly melt into the egg). Served soft and tender. I have an egg sandwich for breakfast several times a week. Over easy, a slice of cheese and a thin slice of capicola or some bacon. Yum Yum.
  13. I'm nowhere near the sports addict I was when younger. Still it is nice to be able to watch some competition that isn't a rerun or extremely lame. So far, horse racing and boxing have scratched my sports itch. Come football season it will probably get a bit tougher. But like many have said. Very minor issue given the current crisis.
  14. Right now? A tee shirt and underwear. I got class man. Plus I'm in the middle of doing laundry. I'll slip on some shorts for my 9pm Zoom happy hour with the SF women.
  15. Id say others for consideration would be The Four Seasons (pretty much all Vivaldi) and Amadeus. But that might be a Pats* like cheat, too.
  16. Only when forced to, Fearless Leader.
  17. I never stepped foot in that dry cleaner again. Back then it was a constant war with dry cleaners. I FINALLY found a great cleaner in LA. Problem was, when I had to pay the bill I thought, why didn't I just buy new clothes?
  18. I considered putting this in the Moo thread, but then reconsidered. This is FAR (side) too important to be buried in another thread: https://www.cnn.com/style/article/gary-larson-new-stuff-trnd/index.html https://www.thefarside.com/new-stuff
  19. When she was young, she was indeed very beautiful. IMO. Now she looks good for her age.
  20. Is that just a given at any point?
  21. I'm starting to think a more interesting category may be "Best original score" for a movie. Most of what has been mentioned (by me as well) are movies that have a bunch of music we know and like. Composing movie specifically for a particular movie is a real art form in itself. Good Bad and Ugly is a great choice. How about The Last Tango in Paris soundtrack? Here's a piece:
  22. Once on a business trip to Oklahoma City, my flight was seriously late---and my bags were missing. I had an early morning meeting, and all i had were the jeans and shirt I word on the flight. Not knowing if my bag would get there before the meeting, I asked the hotel if there was ANY store open where I might get some clean clothes. There was a 24 hour Walmart. This may have been my first trip to a Walmart, I believe. Long story short: It looked like I was going to go to the meeting looking like a grocery store stock boy. Fortunately my bad arrived around 5AM. I started traveling for business trips with a sport coat and khaki's, just in case, from then on. I almost never have the need to wear a suit (or even long pants) these days. I go out of my way to actually dress up a couple times a year. I hate having to dress up but I like choosing to on occasion.
  23. Many years ago I traveled to NYC for a few days of meetings. The last day of meetings, I took my last dress shirt out of the dry cleaning bag. It had broken buttons and a huge iron scorch on it. Motherfather! The meeting was at 11am or noon, so I went to a Brooks Brothers near the hotel and bought an overpriced shirt on the condition they iron (or steam) out the wrinkled. They were very accommodating. I was actually very impressed. That didn't last long as the collar started fraying on about the second or third wearing. I had a beard, but NONE of my other dress shirt collars every got frayed. That was my last BB purchase.
  24. I understand. It was a bit out of the Cheatriots' playbook. So let me make it up to you. A very solid choice. But if you want to include soundtracks from Musicals, I think South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut is one of the best.
