  1. Look at WHO? For a look at me parade, you must think there is someone, or multiple someones, who purposefully organized this for publicity. Got any names or evidence?
  2. I certainly hope the garage pull story is correct, and the end of this. However don't for a minute there isn't racism at play in the NASCAR culture: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nascar/news/bubba-wallace-noose-mike-skinner/tl4wwe3qo3ih1k3jmrf64w62w But nothing to see here. I must admit I'm a bit curious what Wallace did to destroy the sport? Just being Black? By getting the Confederate Flag banned? What does that have to do with racing?
  3. I honestly doubt this will be the way the NFL proceeds. No official announcement so far because (I believe) no OFFICIAL decision has been made, or at least released. i'd be shocked if they make any real decision or announcement until things get a bit more figured out. That could be a while.
  4. What always gets me shaking my head is when people who I've never heard complain about discrimination against African Americans, Women, LGBT. etc get ALL worked up about some event of "reverse discrimination". I say (or think), "Seriously, you're worried because this ONE white person didn't get into a school, while a person from one of these historically under-represented groups with a slightly lower SAT score got in? Where you complaining about the bigger, more ubiquitous discrimination before this?" They ignore the BIG issue and most of the cases, and focusing on the oddball minutiae instead. The outliers. The same way a few here approach the science and medicine surrounding Covid 19. And for the record, I'm not referring to B-Man specifically as I don't even know the person and I won't use a couple sloppy remarks to label someone.
  5. The cigarette guy is a genius! My buddy went to the barber. My buddy wore a mask and the barber wore a mask and face shield. OTOH, another friend went to get his haircut and was asked by the stylist to REMOVE her mask. I suppose maybe it got in the way of some of the cutting. But she said the stylist wore a mask. THAT should be required, IMO. My hair is looking particularly mullet-y, but I'm going to live with it for awhile. Grew my full beard back, too.
  6. Why is Brady still practicing? Because rules and official requests mean NOTHING to him. He will find any loophole to go through and any way to cheat, if he thinks he can get away with it.
  7. I agree, but will say this. In a bar, you cannot wear a mask and drink, for the most part. In bars and restaurants the customers are mostly unmasked, by necessity. In many places the staff is unmasked, too. I guess they think masks will make the clientele nervous--- or something. At least in a protest you see many people wearing their masks. Not perfect to be sure. But hopefully those who wear the masks have a measure of protection.
  8. Nonsense. Yours was the FIRST response in the thread. No accusation against Southerners was made by the OP or ANY other poster in the first page. One poster suggested Confederate Flag waving Nascar fans, and another the historic white culture of the sport, make this less than surprising. (My mishmash translation. I'm in a hurry) 90%? Really? Where the hell does that come from? Let's assume some are doing it for real support. Some due to peer pressure. Some for "attention" (though I'm not sure what kind of attention one of the many participants is going to get). But how do you decide who is who, and then calculate the percentages?
  9. And, given the recent reports of people testing negative after previously having the infection having relapses, suggests the virus may lay dormant for a period of time ("dormant" may not be the right medical/technical term). So some people are either getting it twice (which has not yet been established) or the virus simply lies in wait for a period of time, only to resurface. Since this virus is relatively new (less than a year old) do we REALLY know what might happen to those who show no/few symptoms for a period of time. Russian roulette, indeed.
  10. Would it mean anything. I'm thinking people like B-Man would simply declare it a fake photo/planted/take your pick.
  11. LIAR I personally know two healthy people, both under 60 years of age, who were hospitalized. Both are now OK, it seems. Some research suggest their lungs may be scared and they may never recover 100% of their functions.
  12. That's a pretty high bar for many here.
  13. No doubt. The very fact that you CAN simply drop the vowel from your name and escape the bigotry suggests the bigotry ins't nearly as deep. Also, Italians, Irish, etc came here of their own volition (many legally, many illegally). As a rule, they still had contacts and support from their friends/family/business associates back in the old country. There was no slavery in their recent past and they were never disallowed from going to restaurants/using drinking fountains/restrooms/etc. The mafia, as bad as they were, actually helped many Italians lift themselves out of poverty and into the middle (lower-middle?) class. With that said, remembering the bigotry those in your family experienced is important. It SHOULD make one more empathetic to other groups who experience the social discrimination. I'm continually disappointed with those who know about the bigotry in their past fail to take up the cause for other groups who are currently still experiencing it. And BTW that applies to African Americans who don't support the rights of the LGBT community.
  14. The "scientific community" is made up of thousands of individual scientists. Individual scientists may have some agendas--some are liberal, some conservative But the Scientific Community definately has a big agenda: Getting to the truth through the careful application of the scientific method, peer reviews, etc. What about your parade lie, then. Was that just joking too?
  15. Yes. it sounded as though the WHO said that---and nearly immediately walked it back as people were taking the statement out of context. https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/09/health/who-coronavirus-asymptomatic-spread-bn/index.html People who do not show symptoms ARE spreading the infection. Many "unsymptomatic" individuals eventually show symptoms---that's pre symptomatic. Out in the world, you can't tell one from the other. Ask Von Miller about how long it took him to feel normal again. https://www.si.com/nfl/2020/05/13/denver-broncos-von-miller-details-frightening-coronavirus-experience I'm not paranoid. I'm realistic. S#it is going down, and some people have their heads in the sand.
  16. It's better than them being in the hospital, that's for sure. But irrespective of their individual outcomes, now we have 23 more Covid positive people who must be quarantined and are potentially contagious. If there are 23 now, there may be 30 or more, at a later date. None of them are available to practice or play for at least 14 days. The ones with symptoms might have to wait much longer before they are healthy enough to contribute. So to the team it's potentially DEVASTATING. And asymptomatic can change to very symptomatic in a heartbeat. It's hard to know when someone is truly asymptomatic (and will never be symptomatic) and those who are simply PRE symptomatic.
  17. Not a tweeter so have zero idea what the #cancelled hash tag means. But if it means I will die, then yes, I most certainly will.
  18. Just curious, the OP asks if you can honestly speak about race in the workplace or elsewhere. It seems like many here are focused on the workplace, which is understandable. But isn't there ANYWHERE you feel you can have an honest conversation?
  19. There are not a lot of clean hands in this. But let's be clear. Pelosi did NOT have a bottle of vodka in her hand and did NOT promote a Chinatown parade or fair, as the president claimed. She did however, say to come to Chinatown and it would be safe. BTW, that was two days before SF's first confirmed Covid case. Not defending anyone here. Just setting the record straight. Outright lies should be corrected ASAP, IMO. For the record, since then SF has done a relativity great job compared to most populated cities in the US from what I understand.
  20. You are expecting far too much from him. Not only reading, but comprehending. That's a lot of work!
  21. If you seriously believe that, you need to start paying attention to the CONSENSUS of scientists---not politicians. Some (I use Fauci as the prime example) are not only long time respected experts in the field, but also have access to most every study and opinion. When confronting an issue for which you have no expertise, look to the BEST experts who have access to the best minds and research. You can always find an outlier or two, of course. But why pay attention to them, when there is very good data on outcomes. Places that put mandatory stay at home orders in place and those requiring masks are having much better outcomes than those who do not. And yes, you can always fine an outlier or situation that seems to contradict the consensus. But why focus on the trivial outliers unless you simply are someone who constantly looks for, and believes, information that confirms your personal bias? Ignorance is different than stupidity. But staying purposefully ignorant is pretty damn stupid, IMO.
  22. Yes, the damn news reporting what's going on in the world. They're to blame! Them and testing. Stop testing and reporting on Covid. That would fix everything! Who's with me?
  23. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/06/20/lsu-quarantines-at-least-30-football-players/ But also consider this: However, they are still able to transmit the virus to others.
