Preseason Game #5: Lions at Bills - 8/28/14 @ 7 PM
yall replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Cheese and rice! Man does that O-line look bad. -
Here now. A bit underwhelming. More or less a big concession area with TV's and maybe 10-20 small round top tables. Maybe most importantly, no view of the field. I had a feeling that would likely be the case, but I was holding out hope it would be a shaded bar type area overlooking the field. Still, they have beer and Duff's, so it isn't a total loss.
-
Yeah he was a offensive quality control guy or something like that right? And I agree - I think the two share the same mind re: hurry-up/no huddle. Personally, I don't take issue with it, except when it's glaringly obvious that you should be doing everything in your power to chew up clock.
-
Just goes to show the Bills coaching staff doesn't even know who their best players are, relegating potential superstars to occasional 3rd down/situational guys!
-
I recall that when Marrone was first hired he stated that his philosophy was up-tempo/hurry up to be able to run more plays. I could be mistaken, but that is my recollection.
-
I edited - I don't know that I'm saying anything noteworthy besides "it's hard to judge him based soley on last season given the injuries and lack of quality/experienced players". That and everyone seems to blame him for sticking with the hurry up, while I think that's a directive from Marrone (albeit one that Hackett probably agrees with...).
-
Good, because it not meant for Polish people. On someone else's PC and the font was defaulting to something weird, that's all.

Given that I haven't watched them play a non-preseason game in 8-9 months, it's difficult to pinpoint what I recall being either good or bad in terms of situational play calling and/or design from last season. All I can say is that there seemed to be fewer instances of "why the #$%& did you just call that play on 3rd and 2?" than there have been in the past. I remember watching some all-22's after a few games and thinking to myself "Wow, a better QB would have made that throw" or "I can't believe so-and-so dropped that". In short, my perspective was that the players often appeared to be put in position to succeed, only to make fundamental errors, which ostensibly were unrelated to the plays themselves.

I didn't see anything that consistently drove me nuts offensively last year, aside pehaps from not using Spller they way Gailey did, but that could have been due to the ankle. People like to complain about OC's on this board. I get it. I don't have a body of evidence that suggests his game planning or schemes were subpar when you contrast the rankings with the level of talent. That very well could change in 3-4 weeks.
-
No, I'm saying that I will reserve judgement until he has healthy starters at RB, and players at other skill positions with more than 4 NFL starts under their belt. He might be a terrible chef. I can't tell because last year he had a fridge full of rotten beef.
-
I think you're missing my point; I'm not arguing that he is a good OC. I'm saying there is insufficient evidence to say he is bad, and plenty of evidence to show that poor performance last year was likely related to having a bunch of rookies and injured players.
-
See my post above: Even with an amazing OC, would you expect much better with all of those factors? Because I wouldn't, and no reasonable person should either. I'm willing to see what he can do with a healthy, more experienced roster. And regarding the hurry up, it's my understanding that's being done at the behest of the HC, not by the OC on a whim.
-
Let's recap 2013: 2 both starting RB's injured 3 Inexperienced QB's, two of whom are rookies 2 rookie receivers and an injured vet With all of that. somehow through the first 7 games we were tied with the Broncos as the only team scoring 20 points or more in every contest. Forgive me if I'm not ready to lynch the OC just yet.

Any TBD'ers going or meeting up at Hammers? -
Christ on a crutch, am I glad this was the first post I saw today.

Bully for you. Maybe you guys should all go eat your Snickers with a knife and fork. The rest of us see no issue with using the one tool at our disposal for expressing displeasure with the product on the field. Also, to compare booing a terrible performance to cheering when someone is injured is nonsense. But hey, we're all feebleminded untermunchen to you.

They'd need to double the amount of toilets.

This whole Jill Kelly/TG thing on twitter is a bit odd.

I live 2.5 miles from the Ralph and probably drive by twice a week at a minimum. Understanding that I know bupkis about large construction projects, it doesn't look like it's a little over one week away from primetime. The store appeared to be half finished and there seemed to be a decent amount of work left to be done around the gates. Overall as of 8PM EDT today, it looked a long way from being done. Again, not being a construction guy, it's possible I'm overreacting, but the place didn't give me the vibe of a venue that was about to host 40,000 people in 10 days.

Well I guess we can just close the thread then...

You mean the 35 million dollar bait store that was gonna singlehandedly save Buffalo?
-
Some reports claim that I may have up to eight testicles, but other sources report that number might be closer to two.

I was sharing similar concerns with many other posters regarding EJ so I went back and watched him more closely this morning. I must say I'm a little less concerned than I was last night. One thing that stood out was that only on one play did he lock onto a receiver, which was the final play on 3rd and 11. On every other play he made pretty quick decisions and throws. The first two batted passes were more the fault of the o-line, in particular the first as the Giants defender blew past the LT and would have probably sacked EJ. The 3rd one was definitely on him as he locked on to Watkins. Granted he was coming open and if that pass gets through its most likely going in for the score. I'm not saying it doesn't fall upon the QB, but reasonably speaking he wasn't nearly as bad as a lot of people are making it seem.

I'm hoping for good weather. I have a 16'x9' screen w/full 1080p in my backyard next to my heated pool. Rain means I'll be indoors watching on a regular TV like a pauper.
