  1. Amazing athlete, mediocre at best QB. At the rate he's going, even if he manages to finish the game he's going to be a sore puppy tomorrow.
  2. As far as I've been able to discern, he did the National Anthem last week as well, and did "God Bless America" at last year's Championship game... Looks like something of a "Philly icon." Braille award winner in 2004 for his achievements.
  3. By my quick reckoning it's the 3rd closest stadiums (the way the crow flies): Pittsburgh/Washington - 1972 - 190 miles Cincinnati/Chicago - 1988 - 250 miles Pittsburgh/Philadelphia - 2004 - 258 miles Like I said, useless trivia, so if you're reading this you have no right to complain! Happened to think about it as they were talking about weather conditions at the two stadiums....
  4. There was recently an article revealing that Johnny still sent jokes to Letterman for his monologue. Wonder if that was done knowing that Johnny had written his last joke. RIP Johnny. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6504289/
  5. To put it in "player terms:" Joe Burns....
  6. How long before he's inducted into the NHL HOF? RIP, hockey fan.
  7. Ah, yes, harkens me back to the famous "Ghost in a Jar" http://www.the-ghost-in-a-jar.com/archived/ghost-in-a-jar/ Spawned lots of gag follow-on items....
  8. Good post. Steve, you mentioned before that you gave to the United Way. What guarantees do you have that whomever was helped with your money would have done the same had the situations been reversed? What guarantees do you have that the person you have helped is grateful? What guarantees do you have the the money you donated actually made a difference in that person's life for the better? You have none, but still you give, right? Yes, it is a lot of money, and yes, there are a lot of other worthy charities out there being "ignored" in the light of this, but consider that much of the money going to Tsunami relief effort is not money that is being taken away from other charities. Most people would have spent the money they gave to Tsunami relief on themselves had they not given it to Tsunami relief. But that's what happens when things touch us. How many millions have been raised by Hunter's Hope for Krabbe's Disease research? Would they have been raised if not for the tireless efforts of Jim Kelly? Would he have made such efforts if he didn't have a son afflicted with the disease? Was some of it given by people who gave to Hunter's Hope instead of "Charity B?" Yes. Was some of it given on top of "Charity B contributions" because it touched them personally? You betcha. Let me make it clear that I am not belittling the suffering, difficulties and heartbreak that the Kellys are going through, I'm just saying that Kelly's idolized status meant that something that affected him affected most everyone in Western New York and Bills (and football/sports) fans everywhere. It happens with charitable causes everywhere, all the time. Maybe if there was one world-wide charitable organization that was responsible for receiving all donations and doling it out according to subjective "real" need and relative worth then the world would be a better place but the real world is a subjective place where people give to the charitable causes that are "in their face" and "in their heart." And I still don't get how you can compare what happened to you in Florida to what happened as a result of the Tsunami. I'm not saying losing a garage or even a house is anything less than devastating to a person, but answer these questions: do you still have any possessions? Do you still have cash and/or a means of buying stuff? Do you have, or at least were you able to buy insurance to replace items that were missing? If not, do you have a Gov't agency that is funded to help you recover? Do you still have a job? If not, do you have means to get a job elsewhere? Millions of people in the affected regions have none of that. Everything they had is gone except whatever clothes they were wearing. Many of these people made their living fishing. Now, not only do they not have means to do the fishing (or the money to buy the boat and equipment necessary), but even if they do have those things they lack buyers because the people who'd buy are broke too and a lot of the people are moving away from eating fish for superstitious/religious concerns that the fish had fed itself off their brethren that had been washed away. Take a step up from the people and you move up to the infrastructure. Roads, sewers, power, water, rail, all completely wiped out. Did you see the before and after images? And to go back to the "they hate us," why do they? Because we are seen as an "Evil Empire" bent on "destroying Islam." That is what the radicals are telling the people to harden them against us. And they listen to the radicals because the radicals protect and support them. What do you think the effect is of people receiving food stamped with "courtesy of the US Gov't," or at the very least being given by Western aid workers and military versus the effect of us saying "your problem, deal with it?" This kind of aid at this time of need does help fight the War on Terror. I'm sorry Steve, but your point of view just seems self-centered and, yes, ignorant, to me.
  9. I would not be surprised if this were his (or some colleagues) "interpretation" of the playbook, based on review of games, etc. There is no claim of this being the official playbook. Heck, it could be the friggin' playbook from the Madden game, copied down to paper with extra details. I would be more surprised if there were real copies of the actual playbooks. I think the bidders would too, based on what they are going for. I would think that you would find NFL teams bidding on the actual 2003 Patriots playbook.
  10. The Giants played ball control offense to keep the Bills' offense off the field. When the Bills offense was on the field, the Giants didn't "go vanilla" when the Bills went no-huddle, like many defenses did.
  11. "I thought that's what they meant by cracking the password..." We actually had a situation here at work (big company, lots of docks) where a computer that was coming back from trade trial (one of only a couple of working models that they had) ended up going to the wrong dock. The dock it went to is where dead computers go to get chopped up and otherwise processed for disposal/recycling. The project manager still has 1/2 of the hard drive that she kept as a souvenir....pretty nice cross-section view
  12. Well, when I forget my password, there's nothing like taking a pneumatic press to my computer to help me feel better.
  13. This is the guy who was previously known for creating a "bear proof suit" so he could better study bear behavior. I remember seeing him on some documentary program. Some of the tests he did with the suit can be seen on the web site: http://projecttroy.com.nexx.com/website/
  14. have you tried using add/remove programs under control panel? It's supposed to be listed there as an uninstallable component...
  15. Like the spelling of the word sentence?
  16. So when he runs all over our defense for 200 yards per game twice at least we'll get a higher draft pick out of it. Better yet, lets say we close the season vs. Miami in a meaningless game. We could let him rack up however many yards he needed to in order to get whatever draft pick we wanted.... Brillliant!
  17. I would really really love to believe that Mularkey wouldn't be stupid enough to hurt our kicker's chances (even by a marginal amount) by taking a friggin' knee....
  18. The ones on teagames are tougher. First version: http://www.teagames.com/games/crazygolf/play.php Crazy Golf II is down the page...
  19. You would have done better to say "Tom, your a ass!"
  20. http://www.wmvhd.com/ Samples on the site...of course the file sizes are HUGE...not recommended for dial-up.
  21. As Steve's note indicates, you get better quality output from progressive scan DVD players on HDTV's, but it's not "true" HD. True HD is 720i/p (1280x720 image size) or 1080 i/p (1920 x 1080). There are DVD players that will upsample, but DVD's outputting "true" HD content do not exist yet. At this point in time there are two competing HD "formats" (HD-DVD and Blu-Ray) racing to the marketplace, with each having their own proponents (this could get messy...). Just as an FYI, the "i" or "p" determine how a screen gets refreshed. A TV refreshes at 60 Hz (60 times per second). TV's have tradtionally done refreshing using the "interlaced" method ("i"). With this method, every other line on the TV is refreshed with each cycle, so a complete new "image" only appears 30 times per second. With progressive scan, the entire image is updated every cycle, so you get a true 60 frames per second.
  22. I was kinda surprised to see more than one house in a single picture...must have been in the heart of the city... And hey, isn't there already a "Northern Lights" thread?
  23. Hey, I was published in the Leader too...of course back then there was no such thing as the world-wide-web (and The Leader was carved into stone tablets by work-study students....). I also made it into the Fig.
  24. I was thinking more blind squirrel and nut myself, but whatever floats your boat Tom. Make the most of your 15 minutes Steve. Clock's ticking...
  25. Damn! The drive to Rochester from the West side is far enough...
