Advice Needed - Air Conditioner issues
Richmond_Bills replied to TheMadCap's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Mad Cap - I am in Richmond and have a great AC guy. In a strange coincidence, I just learned yesterday the my capacitor went bad. I turned the unit off immediately, called my guy and he was at my house at 9:30 today. He said by shutting off the unit, I saved the fan (sorry for your bad luck). He fixed it for me in about 1 hour (had to go get the part) and is now at my Dad's house drinking coffee. PM me if you want his info. Sorry that I couldn't give you any real advice about the mechanical aspect, but I do know who to call if something breaks -
Movies that confuse/haunt/bewilder
Richmond_Bills replied to Cugalabanza's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I've watched Eyes Wide Shut about 3 times now and that is one movie that I still don't get. I'm not a dumb guy, but that movie just bewilders the hell out of me... -
There is a steak house on Glenwood called Sullivans. Even if you don't go for dinner (awesome quality steakhouse, quite an expensive place - think Morton's, Ruth's Chris, etc.) go have a cocktail at the bar for some phenomenal people watching. They have a drink called a knockout - basically they let pineapple marinate in vodka for a week and then serve it ice cold in a martini glass. You'll think its nothing, but drink three and then stand up to go to the restroom and you'll be wobbly.

I'm really stumped. It is neither yellow nor do I live in an area with lizards. My son is only 9 and the poster was a baseball schedule - he LOVES baseball, but not that much . I suppose that there could be a bird, but there are no other signs of it....really stumped.
-
Well, the first instance we cleaned up because we thought it was a fluke. The second instance was actually on a poster in my son's room and he threw it away and then told us about it.

In the last 2 days, we have noticed a couple of "streaks" on our interior walls upstairs that look like bird poop (whitish-gray). There is not a lot of it and there are no other signs of anything strange. There were streaks in 2 separate rooms (a bathroom and a bedroom). I have researched and it doesn't look like bat droppings (those sound more pellet-like). I honestly have no idea what this could be. Any info would be appreciated!

I've been to Del Frisco's in Orlando. It was nice, but the waiters were a bit pushy and would do stuff like un-cork bottles of wine we didn't ask for and say "oh, I thought you said you wanted it". This happened twice (big group) as well as them bringing out a 2nd appetizer sampler (like $80) saying - "someone at the end of the table motioned for another"....the bill was over $1k anyway, so that BS was not necessary.

I've been to the Palm a number of times. The steaks are great, the rack of lamb awesome and some of the best Lobster I've ever had. I've been to the Original and Palm II in NYC, the Palm in San Juan a number of times and the Vegas location once. My wife is a huge crab cake fan and loves the Palm's version.

Try The Palm at Caesars. Old NY steak house that went chain. Outstanding, classic steak house in my opinion.

My brother goes and visits his in-laws in FL every Spring Break. The in-laws have a neighbor that wakes up every morning at 6:00, drinks a couple cups of coffee and then cracks his first coldy at 7:00. EVERY DAY

Resume or Headhunter Advice?
Richmond_Bills replied to HereComesTheReignAgain's topic in Off the Wall Archives
My experiences showed that the people with the best resumes were the worst candidates. And the best candidates didn't always have a good resume. Again - hightlight accomplishments, not duties... -
Resume or Headhunter Advice?
Richmond_Bills replied to HereComesTheReignAgain's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Wing - I worked as a "Recruiter" (Accounting and Finance) for about 4 months at the end of 2008/beginning of 2009. Obviously all Staffing Firms have job orders that they fill, otherwise they wouldn't be in business. However, especially in this economy, the supply is much greater than the demand. If you call a firm, they will no doubt call you in for and interview and then just pump the ever-loving crap out of you for leads, give you hope that they have something for you and then forget about you in 3 weeks. As an example, when in the business, if we filled one job order every 2 weeks that was a lot, but we would bring in a minimum of 25 candidates for interviews weekly. My advice would be to network, search the job boards (www.indeed.com is the best) and post your resume on Careerbuilder, Monster, etc. Also check out Craigslist as many employers are going the free route to post jobs. Good luck in your search! As for your resume - there are lots of good examples on the internet. Focus on accomplishments, not duties. -
This has happened to me twice: Sitting in a busy restaurant at lunch time, our group had finished eating. The teenage hostess approaches our table and tells us "we are really busy, you have to leave so that I can seat people at your table". The second situation, my wife and I and another couple were at a small restaurant for dinner. While enjoying an after dinner drink, the manager comes to our table and explains "folks, because we have other diners waiting for tables, we'd like to buy you a drink at our bar or on our patio in order to free up your table. would this be acceptable to you?" Where do you think I've since visited and which one have I not visited again???

So - I've been working for a small business (literally a single owner and me plus some contract help) since I was laid off from Corporate America at the end of 2008. I've really helped this guy grow his business (revenue increase of 300% since I've joined) and have worked my balls off for literally 1/2 of what I was making as a mid-level manager in my old company. I came across an opportunity, followed through with it was offered the position and accepted an offer for more that what I was making at my previous Corporate job (plus awesome benefits - compared to NONE at my current role). So - dreading the "talk" I went in with a totally positive attitude, gave 4 weeks notice and told him I'd love to continue to help him grow his business and possibly "buy in". Well, the dude went Apeshit. It started off calm, but he said some things that crossed the line, I said some things that crossed the line and it was on. 10 hours later, I still can't believe that it happened and it obviously solidified that I made the correct decision - there were other issues there as well. Just wanted to get this off my chest and see if any of my Bills brothers had any similar stories.

Pooj - HHgregg in the old CC store in Short Pump. I don't even know you, but I thought of you as I entered the store. It was a pretty good shopping experience if I do say so.

I am not an electronics guy at all. That said, I just bought a new LG, LCD 720, 37" TV for my living room. Obviously the picture looked great in the store. When I hook it up at home, it looks like crap. Basically have it hooked up directly to my DVR (not HD) and then have the red, yellow and white cables attached. Do I need an HD receiver (Directv) to obtain the "showroom" picture quality? Thanks in advance.

I'll be damned....thanks

On my home computer, whenever I go to TBD, the articles from 2/28 always appear. How can I get this to "refresh" so it shows the current day's articles?

Best party vacations you ever went on?
Richmond_Bills replied to BillsPride12's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I did a golf trip to Myrtle Beach one year where I got 10 total hours of sleep in 3 nights. -
I already had enough tix for my group, but a friend of a friend just called to ask if I could try to sell his 2 as he can't make it. I won't know what section until I pick up the tix tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. Let me know if interested.

13" of snow piled on my deck here in the West End of Richmond. Drove home from a couple of Christmas parties last night. A few cocktails + Unplowed Roads = Adventure.

Thats good. We don't need a Hockey Guy running the football team anyway.
