Lots of illness going around Richmond. I'm home today as well, but mostly with stomach issues. I was sick during the game yesterday, but didn't barf until it was over (coincidence?). At any rate, I finally was able to eat some soup today and have had a 32 oz. gatorade. This is awesome. -
Let's make some NOISE this week!!

The sherriff's name was Roscoe. The dog's name was Flash. Get your Dukes of Hazard facts staight. -
Thanks to all. It was the alternator - $300. Beats the hell out of a car payment!

On the way in to one of my clients this a.m., my 03 Ford Escape lost power while driving and luckily I was able to coast into a mechanic's parking lot. Then tried to start it and heard that awful clicking noise. Told the mechanic and he said he would look at it. I'm waiting to hear from him. I called my regular mechanic and he said it definitely sounds like a bad alternator and that has drained the battery. I don't know Jack Shiite about cars, so I just wanted opinions. Thanks...RB

Going to be in Louisville, what to do?
Richmond_Bills replied to Beerball's topic in Off the Wall Archives
there are some pretty good (ahem) gentlemen's establishments there. also, just across the river in Indiana, there is a Caesars Palace. there is also an area of downtown with several restaurants and bars. go to the maker's mark restaurant there and have maker's cigar and some whiskey...good stuff. -
The main reason for not wanting an MRI is strictly a financial thing. I've just applied for COBRA and the MRI folks say I would have to front the $3k or so until my insurance is again valid and I don't want to do it and I don't want to wait for relief. Its been over 3 weeks of misery now...

Dear Dr. TBD, I made a mistake and used some bad posture for an extended period on a laptop. Ever since, I have had a stiff neck and pain shooting down my arm. I went to MD and he gave me pain meds that didn't work and his next step was for me to go for an MRI to deterimine if I have a pinched nerve. For a few reasons, I don't want to get an MRI, but I need some relief. I'm looking for feedback good or bad about going to a DC. Thanks...Jim

Well fellas - laid off - AGAIN
Richmond_Bills replied to Richmond_Bills's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I'm def not being picky. I would have a real moral issue of having this guy take away from his margin that would go to his family to pay me - all the while looking for a job. I would love to make it work for him - and of course me. I have some soul searching and number crunching to do. That isn't me. I do have a sabres sticker on my back window - no bills representation -
Well fellas - laid off - AGAIN
Richmond_Bills replied to Richmond_Bills's topic in Off the Wall Archives
All - thanks for the well-wishes. It has been an interesting couple of days. I had a face-to-face interview, a phone screen and got a call from a recruiter that said one of their clients wants to meet with me on Wednesday. Yesterday I applied for a job and after-the-fact realized that a friend of friend is a decision maker. Things are happening fast. I'm happy but worried I will make a hasty decision. I met with a guy today - he is an owner of a business and he really wants me to work for him. Absolutely no investment. I would take on the work that he has already built - a solid 30 hours per week then spend the rest of my time marketing his business. We talked contract, etc. He really wants it to work. I love the business model, flexibiity, etc - its just that the money would be tight. I'm conflicted because I'm sick of corporate america, but the small business thing scares me. He told me to think about it through the weekend and get up with him on Monday. It's going to be a pensive few days!!! -
I'm not sure if you all remember my post from Monday November 3rd, but I was laid off from a company that I had worked at for 8 years. Shortly thereafter (luckily) I received a job offer to be an accounting/finance recruiter. I had some reservations, but I took the job. I felt like it would give me some sales experience plus it would keep my finger on the pulse of the Richmond job market. Well, it has pretty much flat-lined since I've been working there. I was laid off today. I was the only one on my team to close a job order in the time I was there. My boss and another guy get to keep their jobs. I'm not saying that I'm any more deserving than those 2, but I felt it could have been anyone. At any rate, I've had a sense for some time and have been networking quite a bit. As before, I'm going to have a positive attitude, not feel sorry for myself and call/e-mail just about everyone I know. Not looking for a shoulder to cry on, but sometimes it just feels better to let all of your thoughts go. Take care and send some good karma my way.

My best is 266. My 15 y.o. brother rolled a 299. I have no idea how he didn't get a strike on that last shot...

How much you making now? Exactly.

Sorry I had an opinion...your response was brilliant. Using your theory, I guess I should stop washing my hair because I don't like Head & Shoulders or brushing my teeth because aqua fresh is too sweet. Or better yet, maybe I should quit being a football fan because the Bills haven't made the playoffs in 10 years. I understand cult classics - again, I like B&B, Jackass, etc. But to bash other people because they don't agree with your opinion...again, brilliant.

I am by no means a "stuck up snob". I enjoy the humor of the Jackass series and quote Beavis and Butthead weekly - but two of the WORST movies I have ever seen that were hyped as "SUPER DUPER HILARIOUS": Anchorman (literally turned it off about 1 hour in) Wedding Crashers (fell asleep)

Rock - As many know, the same happened to me. I was laid off on Nov 3. I had a new job on Nov 13 and started last week. The job market sucks, but for those that have a good head on their shoulders (and from your posts and reputation, I know you do) the right thing will come along. I was really proud how my family was able to "tighten our belts" for the month of November and we spent significantly less than some previous months - and we even did some "cash" Christmas shopping. The moral of the story (and I know this is the holiday season) - live on less than you are used to. It will make you appreciate things all the more. Best of luck bro...

All, I touched on this last week in my "lost my job today" thread. I have a serious opportunity to become a recruiter for senior level accounting/finance positions. The base is only about 10k less than what my base was in my previous position, but the upside for the commission/incentive portion of the compensation is very attractive to me. The firm is one of the big box companies and I have checked around and heard mostly positive feedback. The way I see it, its a win-win. It keeps my finger on the pulse of the job market in accounting/finance as well as it gives me sales/account management experience on my resume. Sales is always something in which I've had an interest. Thoughts are appreciated. Thanks...RB
