Josh Allen's "awful" 1st half...THIS is the article to read
eball replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Smoke and Josh both said the route was supposed to go over the top but the DB had good coverage and took that away. What happened next is why you hear so much about QBs and WRs needing to build chemistry. Both players knew that if the coverage was taking away the deep shot Josh would intentionally underthrow it because the receiver almost always has the advantage there. It worked perfectly, and Smoke even drew the DPI had he not come down with the ball. And Josh absolutely looked off the safety before throwing, which kept him from being able to make a play on the ball. These things are actually practiced and it's not "dumb luck" most of the time. The game is 90% mental and the other half physical. -
Listened to a bit of Bob Papa and Charlie Weis on Sirius this morning...Papa is the Giants' play-by-play guy but is typically a non-biased straight shooter. We all know who Weis is. Both of them significantly underrate the Bills' offense and it's clear they didn't really watch the Bills-Jets game aside from a few highlights (I don't fault them for that, by the way -- Papa has been busy and Weis has to eat). They acknowledge the Bills have a good defense but Weis actually said the Giants' edge is that they are playing Buffalo's offense that "isn't any good." Now, in their defense both Papa and Weis have previously said they believe the Bills could be "one of those teams" who rise up and compete for a playoff spot, but I think they both feel as though the Giants are the better team.

Edmunds, Oliver & Morse are a great foundation
eball replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Huh? Which two? I assume you mean Morse, which is the other one? I think Dawkins has shown himself to be a legitimate starter. Spain certainly has. Ford is a rookie but has tons of potential. Long, Feliciano, and Nsekhe have all shown starter capability at some point. If you really consider TE to be an O-lineman then Lee Smith is excellent quality. Did you watch the tape of Sunday's game to see how well Sweeney and Knox were blocking? (Hint: really well) Your overall assessment of Beane is pretty shortsighted in my opinion. I've opined previously that last year's FAs were not intended to make the Bills great...they were placeholders in what they knew would be a lost season. Only Lotulelei was expected to be a real part of the rebuild. This year, what were the Bills' known weaknesses heading into free agency? The OL and the WRs. What did Beane do? Replaced virtually the whole OL and brought in two new starters at WR. How can a GM target needs any better? And next season they will have a crap ton of money and are already stockpiling draft picks (because of Beane's ability to get something for nothing). I honestly don't know where the incessant criticism of Beane comes from, judging from where this organization has been and how it looks now. -
Josh Allen's "awful" 1st half...THIS is the article to read
eball replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, I read that snippet as well and thought to myself, you've got to be kidding me...this guy obviously didn't even watch the game. There's a narrative about Josh Allen that is going to be next to impossible to change until the Bills get on some nationally broadcast games -- like the playoffs -- and everyone can see what he really is or isn't. -
If any of you have read Jim Kubiak's columns on QB play you understand he has no pro-Bills agenda other than he is writing for the Buffalo News. In today's column he affirms what many of us have said but the national and local media have somehow missed -- Josh Allen was not terrible at all during the 1st half. Enjoy.

AJ Green recovery slower than originally expected
eball replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
John Ross had a breakout game against Seattle and Cinci looked much stronger than I expected. Maybe Seattle's D isn't what we typically see...I don't know. But everyone expecting the home opener to be a cakewalk should think twice. -
There is absolutely no way (in my opinion) to view what happened as anything other than a deliberate attempt to "subtly" take Josh's knees out. The dude wasn't rolling, wasn't pushed. He took action well after the ball was released to roll up on JA. I do hope somebody at the league office is reviewing this. Leopards don't change their spots -- Greggggg Williams is a dirtbag and he asks his players to be dirtbags.

I know you're probably talking about XXV but I'm remembering the last time the Giants visited OP...I was so convinced the Bills would whoop 'em and then we came out completely flat. Shut down OBJ but did not much else right. Tyrod the Terrible showed up to play. What comforts me this week is that the coach "preparing" the Bills for that prior contest was Wrecks Ryan himself. McD & Co. won't make the same mistakes, I hope.

Was the O Line Good, Bad, Or Indifferent in Game 1?
eball replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No holding penalties, two false starts, an ineligible downfield, and Feliciano’s taunt. One sack. I’d say they were pretty good. -
The opening drive looked pretty good until Josh fumbled.
-
No, no, no. I have heard it stated emphatically on this forum that DiMarco is a waste of a roster spot and provides no useful purpose. Armchair QBs can’t possibly be wrong, right? The Bills’ coaches must be complete idiots, right? Who’s with me? I’ve got a bunch of pitchforks and torches loaded up and ready to march upon OBD!!!

Game 1 BB vs. McD: 9-3 NE at the half Game 2 BB vs. McD: 13-13 at the half (and Bills robbed of TD or they would have had lead) Game 3 BB vs. McD: 9-6 NE in 4th quarter with Derek freaking Anderson at QB Game 4 BB vs. McD: 14-6 NE in 3rd quarter In all four games McD took a vastly inferior team and kept the games close well into the 2nd half. If you call that BB “owning” McD well then good on ya. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens this year. And YES, some of your little disciples have argued “why is McD any better than Gase” because the W/L records were similar.

Really? With a name like Veilleux I just assumed he was a typical Buffalo Polack.
-
He wasn't. They kept Tre on one side and Levi on the other, regardless of how the Jets lined up.

Ok, so one of the things we do fantastically well here on TSW is overreact to a given week's result -- good or bad. I'm going to try and buck that trend here, because as others have noted the Giants' offense has some formidable weapons. I'm confident McD will devise a scheme to limit big plays but it will absolutely be incumbent upon the Bills to score points on offense -- I think they'll need at least 24 -- and to limit the turnovers that plagued them this week. Despite the Giants' poor showing in Dallas they will be motivated to win at home and even their record. I believe they'll learn from their mistakes in Dallas and feed Barkley more. They also know they got no pass rush to speak of in Dallas and will probably start bringing extra bodies to try and pressure the inexperienced Allen. I'd like to see the screen game if that happens. It's a little surprising to me that the Bills have opened as favorites, and I would expect the line to move closer to a pick'em throughout the week. It's funny, I think I was more confident the Bills would beat the Jets than I am about this week's game.
-
I knew the Jets and Giants each had their own "home" locker rooms, but you're saying they have their own visitors' rooms as well? Seems like a waste...
-
What I know is that more than 90% of teams who win the turnover battle by 3 or more win the game. The Jets weren't good enough to win a game yesterday that was gift-wrapped with a big shiny bow on top. If you believe the Jets are "good enough" to beat the Browns, Pats***, Cowboys, and Eagles then you must think the Bills are really good.

Thought Shack looked good again

Caddyshack -- Cinderella story! -
Maybe they'll play to a tie.
-
This post is not about the Bills.
-
When you can't take advantage of four gift-wrapped turnovers at home and blow a 16-pt 2nd half lead you know you're in trouble. Next week the Jets get Cleveland on Monday night...if they don't win that one they are facing a gauntlet of @Pats***, @Eagles, Cowboys, Pats***, and @Jags, before finally catching a break by going to Miami. Love it.
