Anyone here willing to go to NYC April 29?

Good thoughts, but add a line between paragraphs, man! That is hard on the eyes!! -
Compared to my parents generation I had a LOT. Compared to my generation my kids have a lot. And so it goes... I hated working as a teen, but if I wanted more than my (I felt) minimal allowance, I had to work. That is the way I raised my kids. One time my son pointed out a kid who had just turned 16, whose parents bought him a car. I asked if he was an only child, and was told "yes." I asked if he wanted me to see if they would adopt him? He was pissed at me but got over it. He just bought his first house.

When my kids were younger, they had paper routes, mowed lawns, baby sat, worked at supermarkets, sub shops, and one waitressed. One is now an IT professional. One is a stay at home Mom who does the books and budgets for her husband's landscaping business. One is a teacher in the "hood". One is in her last few weeks of college and works at Wegmans - doing shifts in video and front end to get more hours. They all had chore lists on Saturday too!

Beer aficionado's give me some beer to try...
rockpile replied to taterhill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you like a different lighter beer, try Tecate. I had some in Mexico and brought a six pack home in my carry-on. The wife saw it in Myrtle Beach and brought me home another six. Dos Equis Amber or Lager is also quite good. Most of the time I keep Blue or Molson in the house to please the guests and usually try to keep a few odd beers around to please the adventurous.. Try here: beer list You can sort by type, country, etc. There is also a search engine - kind of a nice reference. -
Yes, I am at work too. I would have done a "work from home" today, but I had a meeting I had to physically attend and it is raining anyway.

BTW, how do folks feel about the rallies?
rockpile replied to Ghost of BiB's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I remember in 1969, a group of us getting smacked around by teachers and tossed back INTO school for wearing black arm bands and staging a walkout to protest the way the government was mismanaging the war. Now you get classroom credit? -
Somebody, please help me reconcile some logic
rockpile replied to GG's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
There is no logic. How large is large? Time to move down to Nutley - no one expects logic there! -

They did not have a helmet to fit OJ when he arrived, so they had his USC helmet flown in until they could get a new one made.

Bingo. The new CBA may exclude or penalize the Bills from revenue sharing NOW. The new CBA will now count money - like tax money raised to mantain the stadium - as revenue. That money would have to be shared with the other cities. On sale of the team, a new owner would not get revenue sharing for an undetermined period of time, and Buffalo ranks (I believe) 22nd in revenue. Simple math says a new owner would have to find a new city. Go to the TBD front page and read the news articles linked there. Listen to Friday's press conference when Marv compared what is happening in the NFL to the MBL.

I wish you would come to a game. I would like to meet the man behind the Snidely Whiplash.

For a newbie to the board it IS a fair question, Joe. ...and you ARE a tool. heh. Now that opening day is a few weeks later, will you be recovered from blowing your Outer Banks money roll and come to the opener? I hear it will be sold out so you can watch it at Danny's and park at Hammer's lot so none of your money goes to Ralphie!

Sorry for the redundancy, but this is my summary of the press conference. Random comments as I scribbled them down: RW joked that the Bills had more press conferences then games. He looked good. His color was good, he was lucid and did not seem disoriented like he was in some recent broadcasts. Ralph came to New York to be straight with Gov. Pataki, the Erie County Exec (name?) and everyone. He did not come here to ask for money. He said the CBA had worked really well until some owners began building castles (new stadiums) in the large markets that generated lots of revenue that was not shared revenue. That gave them an unfair advantage with the ability to offer huge bonuses that are pro-rated and guaranteed. They have more ready cash to bargain with. He said the high revenue clubs formed a voting block to keep revenue in their own team, bypassing the original intent of the revenue sharing agreement. So, all clubs may have and $80M salary cap, but not all have the extra cash for perks to attract players. This makes the NFL an un-level playing field. He does not want to see the NFL become unbalanced, like baseball. He mentioned Steinbrenner by name and used the Yankees and Montreal as an example. He said there were qualifications on the extension of the collective bargaining agreement that half of the teams STILL do not understand. This could result in 16 to 18 clubs being ineligible for revenue sharing. One example of a qualification was percentage of attendance at games. He has no intention of selling the team. He said he is “taking it to the wall”. When Golisano was mentioned, he said they met once at a tennis match and he liked him. He said he appreciated his offer to help, but it was not needed right now. He said his objection with the CBA was not making more money, but of survival. He said he will fight hard to stay in Buffalo and stay competitive. Before the vote, about 15 teams felt the CBA was unfair but they folded to the larger franchises. RW asked Pataki to speak to Tagliabue to put some political pressure to bear and make to be sure smaller markets do not get ruined. Pataki says he wants the Bills to stay in NY - after all they are the ONLY NFL team in NY. RW is not trying to get a new stadium. He said WNY is a poor area and there is no justification for building a more costly stadium. We have a fine stadium already. RW lamented that most of the old guard of owners is gone. The new owners do not have the same values. When the league has a meeting, instead of talking football, they talk money. The new owners are not concerned with fairness. He feels the high revenue clubs put a lot of pressure on Tagliabue. He hinted that in the past, as recently as the 1987, the owners would have walked away from the table and let the players go on strike before they would fold to the demands for 59% share of the revenue. In answer to a question, he jokingly said he would sell the naming rights to RWS for 75 cents. Then he said that the money he would make in selling the name would barely be enough to sign a FA rookie. That is more than enough for now!
