  1. I got choked up a few times during songs when my daughters danced in shows (jazz/tap/ballet). When they were little they were cute, when they got older they were dramatic. My oldest once danced to "Hero" and dedicated it to Mom and Dad. My grandmother pretty much raised me. She spent her last 5 years in a bed with alzheimer's after a severe stroke. I used to get a bit misty listening to this song: Hello In There by John Prine We had an apartment in the city, Me and Loretta liked living there. Well, it’d been years since the kids had grown, A life of their own left us alone. John and Linda live in Omaha, And Joe is somewhere on the road. We lost Davy in the Korean war, And I still don’t know what for, don’t matter anymore. Ya’ know that old trees just grow stronger, And old rivers grow wilder ev’ry day. Old people just grow lonesome Waiting for someone to say, hello in there, hello. Me and Loretta, we don’t talk much more, She sits and stares through the back door screen. And all the news just repeats itself Like some forgotten dream that we’ve both seen. Someday I’ll go and call up Rudy, We worked together at the factory. But what could I say if he asks what’s new? Nothing, what’s with you? nothing much to do. Ya’ know that old trees just grow stronger, And old rivers grow wilder ev’ry day. Old people just grow lonesome Waiting for someone to say, hello in there, hello. So if you’re walking down the street sometime And spot some hollow ancient eyes, Please don’t just pass ’em by and stare As if you didn’t care, say, hello in there, hello.
  2. Bring her!
  3. Always make the deal subject to mortgage, engineer, and lawyer approval. That gives you three "outs" if you need one. I visited a house in Rochester that was having three offers put in on the first day the home was shown. We went in at $50 over the asking price and won. That was 1982 and I was sweating having to make the $286 / month mortgage (PITI) Of course I had three kids and was making $12K a year! That was my decade of working two jobs while going to night school.

  11. Nah, I'll just bump it every ten days or so and be as unobtrusive as I can, otherwise the "boss" will have requests to pin everyone's special cause. That would not be cool.
  12. <bump again> Team is up to $300 - THANKS! 6 weeks to go before the walk.....................
  13. I have (as you know) a tendency to laugh in the face of incurable diseases.

  15. My big brother is a preacher and has been watching my antics with a frown for many years.
  16. Why would anyone eat at Denny's anyway? I stopped at one once after a night of drinking, the food and the service was plastic! 30 years later and I have not been back.
  17. Of course you all know that St. Patrick was Scottish, right?
  18. I am so sorry. What happened? 53 is YOUNG!
  19. When I was a little kid, growing up in Hamburg NY, and the child of south Buffalo natives, we always had Friday night dinners at the Cloverbank Hotel on Lakeshore Road. It was a local pub, and people took the family there. By mutual choice, Dad's hung out in the bar area, and the Mom's and kids hung out in the restaurant section. It was the social watering whole. Back then beef on Weck was a roast beef and gravy sandwich. Beef on Kimmelweck was the seeded salty roll. Fish fry take-out dinners were wrapped in newspaper and the shrimp in a basket was HUGE! We did not know what Buffalo wings were (late 50's) - when did the Anchor Bar "invent" them?
  20. Why are you so angry?
  21. It's not like I am a geek or anything, but I like Alan Moore, the writer (although he would have nothing to do with the movie). His ten issue mini-series for DC/Vertigo comics is about twenty years old and I remember liking it. So I dug through my archives (I save way too much stuff) and found the comics. I read them to get my bearings on the story again. I have to say they did a very good job of moving the story into "today" (or the near future) so it was contemporary. I could nit pick some things and turn this into a comparison of the comic to the movie, but why? The important thing is that the theme of the story was intact. When you no longer fear death you are free. You can kill a person but you cannot kill an idea. People should not be afraid of their government, the government should fear the people! Anarchy is not bad if people make good choices. If the government is beyond saving, bring it down. Last night I went to a free public preview at a theatre with a rather poor audio/video presentation. I found myself thinking about it all day. I wanted to clarify some things, so I went to a better theatre and saw it again tonight (gee, maybe I AM a geek). I just got home a while ago. It is not as "dark" as I expected, but the acting by John Hurt and Natalie Portman (except for her attempt at a British accent) is superb. After Star Wars, I never thought Portman could be any good. This is not the Matrix. This movie has violence and gore, but it is primarily political/philosophical - VERY heavy on dialogue, not non-stop action. It keeps you thinking, even as you leave the theatre to the Stones blasting Street Fighting Man. 8 out of 10
  22. I agree don't call cooked and flavored chicken wings Buffalo wings!
  23. I am very sorry, Guff. It is never easy to accept when someone you loves dies, but to be so young, so sudden, so unexpected, it is shocking too, as you said. I have been there so I know some of what you are going through. My best to you, your family, and your friend's family as you all deal with this. Try to remember the good times; it sounds like there were many. Love to you all, Bro. Rock Rule #1: Life is not fair Rule #2: See rule number one
  24. ...because you are going through Garbage Plate withdrawal. That brings out the worst in people (you are people right?).
  25. I also think that most Bills fans would LOVE it if JP succeeds.
