Tailgate VII Ticket Ordering Info
rockpile replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in TBD Annual Tailgate (TBDAHOT)'s Topics
I will be taking 7 to 10 tickets. Money will be in before the deadline. Does that mean 11 are sold now? -
No such thing as "a little".

Who here has run/is running your own business?
rockpile replied to Arkady Renko's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With the arrival of child #3, babyrock, my wife decided she would try "baby sitting" for a while. A couple of decades later, she runs a certified NYS licensed home day care center. With the education and certification, and ridiculous state compliance requirements, she has stayed ahead of the monster. Don't ever call her a baby sitter unless you want your ass kicked. She is the person who has your child 8-10 hours a day. She teaches them manners, potty trains them, does frequent field trips, has all kinds of craft projects, has just started teaching the toddlers simple computer usage. She cares for them when they are sick, and consoles them when they are having a bad day. She works at it 10 hours a day and does not sit much. Pay is OK, no complaints. I am surprised when parents complain about her rates, which are in a median range. She has told people if they want to save 5 dollars a week they are free to go to the nearest kid processing center and save $250 a year. She screens child and parents BEFORE they start. If the chemistry is not there, they do NOT get placed. She is her own boss, and is married to her backup daycare provider, repair man, accountant and tax advisor. Saturday night we ran into one of her former "kids" - he is head chef at a nice restaurant now! She helped him deal with his parents divorce and later with his father's death from cancer. Sixteen years after he was "her kid" during the day, he rushed over and gave her a big hug and kiss. Me? I work for a dot com in the cube mole life, but work with good people. -

Creedy: Defiant until the end, huh? You won't cry like him, will you? You're not afraid of death. You're like me. V: The only thing that you and I have in common, Mr. Creedy, is that we're both about to die. Creedy: How do you imagine that's gonna happen? V: With my hands around your neck. Creedy: Bullocks. Whatchya gonna do, huh? We've swept this place. You've got nothing. Nothing but your bloody knives and your fancy karate gimmicks. We have guns. V: No, what you've have are bullets, and the hope that when your guns are empty I will no longer be standing, because if I am you will all be dead before you've reloaded. Creedy: That's impossible. Kill him. [The fingermen open fire on V, but he still stands after their clips are empty.] V: My turn. Creedy: Die! Die! Why won't you die?! ...Why won't you die? V: Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.

I won't bump this again, but will let you know the final pledges collected and how the walk went. I know we all have personal causes we champion: church, ALS, homeless shelters, battered women, Katrina Relief, or perhaps your local fire department. None of us can support every need. Whether or not you choose to sponsor me, I hope you have a cause or find a cause and support it! God Bless you all and thanks to those who have helped MY personal cause. TSW is a great bunch of people. Charity begins at home. If you choose to sponsor me here is the link: MS WALK

He needs to find the money. Why is it up to you? Unless he is sick, disabled, or has video of you that could be incriminating isn't it HIS problem? I remember having to work two jobs to cover sh-- because sh-- happens.

Happy Birthday, Lana!

For out of area folks, it was the former mayor, "Edsel" Johnson, who brokered the original Fast Ferry deal. The first sign that they might not have thought things out was when it did not fit through the St. Laurence Seaway locks to get onto Lake Ontario, without spreading butter on the sides. Current mayor Duffy was very influential in killing it before it bled taxpayers even more. And no, he is not MY dad either.

A Very Merry Un-Birthday to all!

Anyone Read the DaVinci Code or Angels and Demons?

From the brief promo ads on TV, Hanks does "look" the part. I am reading the book for the third time this week in preparation. -

Here is his bio from the post that started this thread. It may explain a bit more. Bob Wegman My son worked in produce there and if we are in another store together, he cannnot resist checking out their wares. Many times he told me that he would have refused a truck delivery of the quality found in produce on that store's shelves (especially the Super Wal*Marts). The BIG Wegmans stores are fun. Everything from milk & eggs, to lawn furniture to gourmet prepared foods, sporting goods, to on site dining rooms. I would not do my weekly shopping at a Superstore, though. I go to a smaller Wegmans for that! I also buy canned and packaged foods at Wal*Mart because it is "the same stuff" cheaper.

We did a field trip in Pittsford in between practices at Training Camp one year for the out of towners. The place is like a shopping mall! My son worked at a local Wegmans for 8 years, from high school though grad school, and got several thousand dollars in scholarships. For younger workers and collegiates, they work with them around schedules for school activities and holiday breaks. Bob Wegman was a working man and did good.
