What's with the bell after first downs?
zonabb replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One more loud obnoxious sensory bomb inside that stadium. When I did a stadium experience survey sometime this summer, I basically slammed the audio/video experience. The constant wall of sounds turned up to 11 is just not necessary. This is how you know it's too loud.... when you hear the same thing twice because the sounds travels entirely across the stadium and bounces back. They have everything turned up so the speakers behind the 300 levels can be heard in the opposite 300 levels. Too damn loud. -
So far so good with Dunne. Like Buscaglia because he's knowledgeable (gotta take some arrogance but he knows his stuff). That's about it. The rest of the BN are unreadable. Problem I have with WGR is they're all jock-sniffing fans boys (especially Sal, holy cow I can't deal with him, he's like a 13-year-old meeting his heroes) and season ticketholders for our teams, hard to lend any credibility to them. JW unfortunately works for a dinosaur, the AP. Couldn't tell you the last time I read any of his stuff. I have warning points for being critical of him in the past. Oh, I did like the reporting of the guy in Toronto during the Bills sale, is it John Kryk (spelling?). He was good. As I said in an earlier post, probably many, I don't like opinion pieces because I don't care what anyone says. I've watched as much football as these twits on WGR, why should their opinion matter more than what I think for myself. I have a brain with 10 years of college invested in it, I don't need to be told what to think or turn to them to re-frame my own thoughts. I like good reporting, sadly that's in short supply in WNY, very short supply. Seems to me that the line between reporting and opinion has been blurred, that even in what should be a game report, we get snark, innuendo, and cheap shots when the goal is to report the facts. And as I've also said... I come here, scan the topics and see if there is any newsy. This place is better than any reporter for news because it's a clearinghouse and distiller of local and national outlets and twitter.

Edit: now confirmed rumor that Bills will release Cassel
zonabb replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Guy's an idiot. Basically, refutes himself with the "outlier" comment if he stated that because that suggests, as our good friend Lloyd Christmas would say "So you're telling me there's a chance" EJ could be that outlier. Further, making him just absolutely lacking any credibility is that Tyrod Taylor is 26 and he has stated continually that working hard and backing up Joe Flacco has helped him improve from when he was drafted. He is one horrible radio hack. -
Fred Jackson expected to sign with Seattle(update-signed)

Actually might be the best one yet. -
What reporter is first with who the new QB is?
zonabb replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
National guy. Local media has to write on the Bills everyday so they tend to dig deeper, be more critical and frankly idiotic, and therefore none have a close tie with the team. Some are trailer park girls going around the outside but none are close. I wouldn't be shocked if that guy in Toronto broke it. Seriously, anyone think Sullen, Graham, or Yucky have anyone inside? That's impossible. -
GR postgame unbelievably predicts Cassel as the starter
zonabb replied to Freddie's Dead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Cassel starts, he's the lowest risk for a team with a playoff defense and offensive weapons. He offers the least upside and least risk and most boredom. EJ offers the highest upside but highest risk. But the time the upside takes to appear comes with lots of mistakes this team doesn't want. If this was a rebuild, EJ or TT would start but the veteran QB gets the call. Regardless, wgr55 sucks especially this guy who has no on air talent and attempts to act smart regurgitating analytical measures from other sources. He's a Google scholar, not an analyst. -
Did anyone catch Sully yesterday on NFL Radio?
zonabb replied to dollars 2 donuts's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd like to buy that miserable rube for what he's worth and sell him for what he thinks he's worth. -
The most important news from the Bills today....
zonabb replied to Just Jack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, a taco made entirely from processed Sysco food is probably awesome. And fresh. -
We're saddled with putrid media here and I've given up nearly all of it, save the occasional read of the news or listen to WGR55 in the car (I mainly commute by other means so I listen to music). I come here for Bills news, honestly. I'm over-educated, analytical, quantitative, and have my own opinions. Why would I turn to someone with a microphone, a bachelor's degree in broadcasting, and a sh!tty attitude to tell me what I can deduce myself? Seriously, why does anyone need to hear the opinion of any of these guys? Who cares. Put it this way, all they did was take class in communication, all their opinions are from reading and seeing the same thing you do. These are not experts is what I am saying. They are no more experts than many of you when it comes to football knowledge. And when they get into the analytics, it's maddening. Case in point, a few days ago I think, I was with someone's car listening to it and Jeremy White is arguing that he didn't like some stats from PFF. Can't recall which but his argument was totally illogical but also completely typical of those who cherry picks stats that benefit their argument and ignore the ones that run counter to their normative brains. He must have read How to Lie with Statistics. Schopp is just that kid from school who never played sports but read everything all the time and was a total nerdy know-it-all that people ignored, except probably the A/V club. Now he has a bully pulpit and enjoys feeling smart, which isn't hard given the population of callers. The best thing about WGR over the last few years was when they got rid of Sully! Miserable, middle-aged, middle-class, divorced (shocker he got remarried), white males do not make interesting radio.

is Ray Rice coming to Buffalo for a look-see?
zonabb replied to HankBulloughMellencamp's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the video sealed his fate. Some of these domestic cases center on accusations of pushing or shoving but he flat out threw a heavyweight class haymaker at a woman. It wasn't an open handed slap or a push (neither of which are acceptable), he went for big air and landed it. Does he deserve a shot, sure. There are a lot of degenerates in this league who've done the same or worse. Do I want it to be here? Don't care, long since stopped rooting for individuals, now I root for the logo. Too few likable players in the NFL to try to like any of them. They're simply a commodity. In fact, I would love it if they worse jerseys with no names or numbers. -
Hopefully. Why should we take with 100% certainly everything everyone media honks says when it comes from the ubiquitous "unnamed sources." This hero worship of the media by some here is hilarious, it's worse than the jock sniffers here. I'd love someone in some ivory tower to track how many reports from unnamed sources are actually true. Then let's judge the credibility of these guys based on their accuracy of their reporting instead of the timeliness. Until that time, what they report is taken with a glacier sized grain of salt.

Wawrow Article Indicates EJ Sees Wall's Writing
zonabb replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm dumbfounded that a team would draft a guy 16th, play him 14 times under a coach who was in over his head, and then cut him. If you're willing to do that, what does that say about scouting? Not just the Bills GMs but a lot of GMs hinge their jobs on making risky selections of QBs way too early. It's a double-edge sword, if you pass on a guy who turns out, you're fired. If you do draft one and miss on him, you're fired. Teams just continue over and over to a) have zero patience to develop a QB and b) overdraft them. Those two concepts... no patience and overdrafting are counterproductive to stabilizing the position. We've witnessed it for 15 years. As long as you over draft and have no patience, it's a revolving door of draft failures sprinkled with FA and trade failures. Look at this team since Kelly. -
Another breakdown on TT (Sports on Earth)
zonabb replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Horrible piece with such egregious bias its no wonder I've never heard of this guy. The armchair analyst era thanks to the Internet is laughable. This guy has a site with an "interceptable" pass story that is one of the worst stats articles I've read. You can't create a descriptive stat that is at once subjective and done via video. One persons interceptable pass is anothers WR mistake. Garbage. -
+1. Guy's a loser, no matter how may millions he made, how "badazz" he purports to be, or how many games and championships you win. I will agree though that trophies for participation is lame and we're creating a culture of narcissism and low standards.

good stat comment by Andy Benoit at MMQB
zonabb replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Because it's a horrible idea. So if a RB fumbles the handoff, the QB picks it up and throws for a TD, is that a rushing TD then since it was out of an obvious run formation. If you RUN the ball, no matter what means or methods or intention, that's rushing the ball, period. It's really that simple and any argument otherwise is merely some stat guy's attempt to change the definitions of terms to meet his statistical needs. That's not how stats work. Any analysis that use an improper measured variable, in this case, running the football, is going to give you bad results. Sadly, too many people have zero statistical background to understand what these people are throwing out and instead gladly take them at face value. -

Fan Advisory Board meeting 8/22 - any questions?
zonabb replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From my sources, one main reason the new stadium will be downtown is to cut into tailgating and have people spend their money in the stadium pre-game. Owners want to capture what they think is rightfully theirs.... any revenue spent by every fan during game day. New Orleans has a cool concourse pre-game but the lines are a little crazy and the prices outrageous. I think they'll never really do well getting people into the game early just to spend money. $9 warm light beer? No thanks. Some loud obnoxious cover band so no one can talk? No thanks. -
At least I'm not losing mind my.... or we both are!

I thought I heard Murph this week say Chris Brown would do the scrimmage, can't find a station since as mentioned above baseball is on wgr55.

Arian Foster says "I don't believe in God"
zonabb replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's irrelevant to this board first and anyone who wants to bring religion into the place and space we come to avoid real world issues is a fool or worse a missionary. Second, the only thing "closely intertwined" is that religion is a fantasy and you can play fantasy football. When you prove God exists, I'll start listening. -
God this Watkins issue again. Look at is the "net" cost, which simply means the "balance" after all is said and done. In this case, the two first rounders (simple 'merica sucks at math) cancel each other out (even though the Bills got the better of the two picks) and therefore the Bills net cost was the additional two picks, hence the actual net cost is two picks. Jesus can this die already. In any case, I came to say that Dunne rots. I am sick of anonymous sources. The problem with them is we are supposed to just assume Dunne is credible. How do we judge his credibility? It seems that because he's a writer, he's automatically credible. So because he write's for the paper, we're supposed to just take his word for everything and never question it? We're supposed to also accept his sources are real? What if that source was the worst NFL executive ever or he called everyone NFL and 31 of 32 have the same opinion and he quotes the one with the contrarian opinion because it fits the way he framed his story or the paper's general editorial approach? I have zero respect for writers who use anonymous sources and lean on their unearned credibility as justification for using them. I had really hoped this guy was better than the other's at the rag but the constant use of anonymous sources takes away from otherwise decent skill. Stopped reading him this week. I've sadly turned to Twitter for training camp updates but even there, holy hell, it's garbage. Every talking head and reporter is retweeting each other's stories. Better than the News by far though.

Does the legend of "Big shadow" Leslie Mike Jasper live on?
zonabb replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just got back from FL last week and just as I thought I was certain Florida couldn't possible be a bigger dumpster fire, I hear that Tampa has wrestling schools. Awesome.
