How Does a Bills Loss Affect Your Life?
Livinginthepast replied to Billsfanatic8989's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It used to really get me angry during the 90s. I would be pissed for days. By the time 2000 rolled around and they started to suck , my anger/disappointment reduced considerably. I'm down to a couple of hours or less now. Games vs Pats I expect to lose and there's no post game black cloud over my head. All in all, I can put losses in perspective and any loss is nothing compared to the way that wide right in the SB felt. Truly one of the worst moments in my life and weeks of "mourning" afterward. Oh what could have been. -
I have a memory (perhaps a little fuzzy) of watching Buffalo evening news sportscast during the negotiations to get Kelly here after the USFL folded. The story that night was all about how Jim wanted Ralph to pay up if he wanted him in Buffalo. I just remember the Sportscaster implying that Jim was greedy and was disrespecting Buffalo and Don Postles? concurring in disgust. Funny how Jim became the champion of the city during his career and after. I was at the last game that Jim played vs the Jaguars and seeing him carted off was a sad end for a brilliant career. Like most things in life you didn't know what you had until it was gone. 22 years?! Damn!

1993 Bills - only team to beat last 3 SB champs?
Livinginthepast replied to Dan Darragh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree the Cowboys were probably better but they hadn't yet evolved into the swaggering powerhouse that they would become. I just watched that first SB game vs the Cowboys. It really is grim watching but I still believe the Bills and Cowboys really weren't that far apart. The Bills unfortunately play probably one of their worst games ever in this SB. 5 turnovers in the first half. Kelly threw 3 really bad INTs, one from the 5 yard line was an absolute killer. Thurman Thomas with a game breaking fumble, and a series of other gifts to the Cowboys. Kelly's injury obviously finished any chance they had but the whole team had played an absolutely embarrassing game by that time. The sad fact of the game is that the Bills looked completely unprepared for anything Dallas did, like they hadn't watched any game film. The Bills game plan on both sides of the ball showed no sophistication whatsoever. By the time the Bills got to the 3rd quarter they were still in it but they had lost all hope and they just resorted to the "here we go again" loser mentality. Watching that game now I cannot help but think that it might have helped to have hired a sports psychologist to work with the team even after the first SB but esp after the Redskins one. Or even right before this game. Anything to try to break the mental barrier of losing the big one. Maybe they didn't do such things back then? I also think that they should have abandoned their no huddle game plan as it had really been exposed by that time and good teams knew how to beat it. Despite all this I still think that much of what occurred was really freakish. This game should have been a lot closer and if the Bills had done a better job in preparation and strategy they could have won it. -
I miss that Son of a Bum

Wade is a great coordinator, probably one of the best ever. He has shown throughout his career that he can be prepare for almost any challenge (including Brady). He has also shown that he can make in game adjustments if things are not going his way. I think that trait has been improved since his time here. The problem for Wade was when he was head coach here and to some extent the head coach of the Broncos in 1993 and after us in Dallas is that he is a really bad game manager for both sides of the ball. His in game decision making was really slow and he was really poor playing chess offensively. I do hope he wins again though and defeated BB and Brady would be extra sweet! -
Would you want Ziggy Ansah if he hits the open market?

So sick and tired of him and BB, You are the GOATS now f'off!! retire on top! At the same time I also sick of the naïve Bills fans who for years have been wishfully thinking that "if Brady wins just 1 more SB he will retire". Sorry You had to know that Brady was never going to walk away at 35 or even at 40. The guy is better than everybody else currently QB in this league with very little drop off from his early 30s peak. He tries to market that low key personality but in reality he has a huge ego (fed by his continuous success). He is also greedy for more success and knows he can achieve it. Unless he gets injured he will play for them for another 5 years! Just part of our never ending nightmare in the AFC east. I just wish the Bills (coaches and team) instead of conceding the 2 games against him every year and playing scared, would actually do some homework for a change on what beats Brady and play with some balls against the Pats instead of this wimpy submissive garbage of the past 2 decades!!

I was checking out the Wikipedia list of SB halftimes and not surprisingly the first few years have a lot of marching bands, up with people etc. What is really surprising looking back is seeing the incredibly lame lineups of the 80s and 90s. There's a few decent or big name performers in there but lots of really safe, G rated crap. Some of the choices as performers are bizarre. George Burns and Mickey Rooney in 1987 for ex. I don't recall watching any of the Bills SB half time shows, probably because I was completely stressed out of my mind. But they had Michael Jackson for #3!

Perhaps that concussion from that Patriots game did some damage to the common sense portion of his brain or wiped his memories . He didn't look in the slightest way at all that he was enjoying any of it as the Pats pummeled him left and right. Financially though as others have said, its much better for him to come back as a player than a coach. I just cannot believe they would allow him near the field. Then again if he has some positive effect on Josh, then great.

I don't think Anderson has any interest being a coach. Judging from what he was doing when the Bills pulled him off the scrapheap to come to Buffalo he didn't have any interest in actually playing either. Now I can see how he would have had an interest in a 3rd string backup /mentor for Allen job as the Bills probably enticed him with that job description. They probably prefaced it as "easy gig"," we've already got Nate Peterman as backup", you'll never see the field" type stuff. Then when Allen got hurt and Peterman proved to be a disaster, they HAD to put in Anderson. Maybe Anderson felt slightly double crossed? In any case, I doubt he comes back here.

1993 Bills - only team to beat last 3 SB champs?
Livinginthepast replied to Dan Darragh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As much as I loved that team, the players, the comeback and all the other great games and entertainment they gave me in those years, I cannot forgive them for losing those 4 SBs. The lack of poise, preparedness, discipline and clutch they showed in those games will forever haunt me. They should have won EVERY one of those SB games and they just choked as a unit (coaches and players) in all of them. As for the Op's question. He's probably right about the Bills having that honour. No other team has made it to 4 in a row so beating the previous 3 winners in the season after the SB loss #3 would only be possible for them. I do remember that game in Dallas in 1993 when they beat the Cowboys 13-10 in a defensive struggle. In some ways I felt vindicated after all my Bills hating friends said they weren't in the same league as the Cowboys after the SB destruction. Then again it was like salt in the wound! The Bills could do it against a great team, just not when the pressure was maxed and it mattered! -

5 guys open for the most accurate, quickest reader of defenses QB ever? What a defensive scheme!! It almost looks like Sutton took a suitcase of money to throw the game with that kind of defense! -
As a dark horse I think Pee-Pee Diarrheastein Poopypants Esquire would be a great late round selection.

I really don't understand why he was retained after last year. Apparently he is good pals with Reid but he was awful last year and even worse this year. They should have pulled the plug on Sutton even before the 1/2 way mark, Maybe right after the Pats torched them the first time but definitely after the Rams game. I know that changing a coordinator mid season doesn't work probably 90% of the time but seriously how could a new guy have been any worse. Sutton's in game adjustments were non existent. Perhaps he was lacking the personnel but that begs the question why continue with the same scheme?? On Sunday, I saw a defense that could not rise to make a single stop when it mattered, that couldn't get a touch let alone a sack on a 41 year old hardly elusive QB. The overtime drive was especially painful to watch because the defense was gassed, banged up and had absolutely no belief left. You would have thought that Reid or Sutton would have grasped this and taken as many defensive timeouts as possible. No they didn't bother. I was also wondering why they weren't subbing in people regularly. Even the 2nd string backups at all positions could not have been worse than that tired group who were getting dissected on every play, but once again no. They could have had the defensive players feign injury ala BB in SB 25 vs us but once again both Reid and Sutton did nothing. Overall one of the weakest performances in clutch situation I have ever witnessed. -
Problems with making PI reviewable...

Im sure you can come up with lots of reasons that the CFL "blows" but the ability to challenge PI is definitely not one of them. -
Rams vs. Pats*** -- this is where it all ends
Livinginthepast replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I honestly think as bad sportsmanship as this sounds, the Rams must hit Brady early, often, low, high and especially late. As good as the Oline for the Pats is, it doesn't explain how pathetic a job both the Chiefs and Chargers were at getting to Brady. Both those defensive coordinators should be looking for work right now (and probably should never work again). Yes Brady is the Goat, yes he's got a fast release, but he's 41 f'ing years old. No amount of diet, working out and conditioning can stop your middle aged muscles from starting to seize up from a consistent bruising and pounding that results from sacks and hits after a pass. But yet both the Chiefs and Chargers barely laid a caress on Brady in those games. If I was Wade, I would be dialing up as many bring the house blitzes as possible early and pound Brady. And if Suh should accidentally pile drive Brady or step on his ankle well that would be very unfortunate. -
The GAME when you knew the Bills HC wasn't the guy!
Livinginthepast replied to PUNT750's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its funny the stupid things that you remember about these mostly useless former coaches! I cannot remember important items in a shopping list but a quote from reanimated corpse Jauron from more than a decade ago? no problem! -

Was that the game where Jauron said that he looked into Lindell eyes and somehow knew that "He didn't have it" so he didn't kick the FG? -

I'll go back to Wade Wade - 2000 week 15 vs the Colts when the Bills were still in the playoff race and Wade said "we're out of it", basically gave up. Gregg - I knew this guy was a blowhard even before he started his first game, when at his opening press conference, he told us that "this team can win the SB" and then proceeded to go 3-13. Something about him didn't pass the smell test even BEFORE the season started. Mularkey - Week 17 in 2004. With the playoffs on the line, Mularkey loses to the Steelers scrubs in the last game of the season. Jauron- week 11 in 2007. The Pats destroyed the Bills and kept going for 2 after every TD, just to be Aholes. They also left Brady in the game up by 30 pts. Jauron instead of getting angry and ordering the Bills to man up, just stared into space, totally clueless and turtled for BB. I don't think I have ever been so angry as a Bills fan. Chan - Week 17 2011. The Bills get destroyed by the Pats at Gillette again. Chan finishes his 2nd losing season. St.Doug - I didn't really get rubbed the wrong way by Marrone until maybe the Raiders game in Marrone's 2nd season. Still he left before I really got a chance to want him gone. Rex - Week 12 vs KC in 2015, Rex took bad advice from his on field preacher man to throw/ not throw the challenge flag. Just clueless. The Jury is still out on McD but the Chargers INT fest and starting Peterman may be the watershed moment. -
OT Rule needs to change!
Livinginthepast replied to BuffaloButt's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't see what the big fuss is about slightly changing the overtime rule. Just guarantee 1 possession for each offense in OT UNLESS the Defense scores a TD then the game is over right there, no need for the scoring offense to have their possession. If both teams were guaranteed one possession and they both scored the same FG or TD, THEN it becomes sudden death with whoever scores the next pts winning it. If they applied these rules yesterday, the Chiefs would have got the ball after NE had scored their TD and probably scored themselves to tie it. They probably eventually lose the game anyway because their defense couldn't have stopped a tumble weed by the end of last night's game.
