It'll be a much different conversation if the Bills get shredded by New Orleans and answer that by making Alex Smith look like Tom Brady in week 9. These 2 scenarios have a better than even chance of happening the next 2 weeks. To call the Bills a top 5 defense is laughable. Alonzo and Lawson make this team better, but let's not get crazy.

Dunno if I'm tipping my hand on this thread, but I picked up NO Defense and Alex Smith to cover bye weeks in FFL. I'd be blown away if this team went 8-8. They are just not consistent enough in every phase of the game. They have shown improvement though.

Trading your best players is NEVER a good thing. Spray perfume on it. Justify it any way you want. The Bills got fleeced, greased and abused in that trade.

It's funny. The team goes 6-10 for a decade, but when you suggest one of the incumbents might not be doing his job consistently, it's like blaspheme or something. Kyle Williams is O.K. He makes a play here and there. I can't defend the guy, or anyone on that D, when they give up 400-500 yards a game and keep losing. Also, held up against the Jets DTs, ours pale in comparison. Yeah...and you can throw in that it was a short week with a Thursday game. Few backups are going to shine in that scenario. It's a bit unfair to judge Jeff Tuel on Thursday. That being said, I think Marrone is just hoping to throw an athlete out there in Lewis and see if he can make some plays that are not otherwise in the 'Tuelbox'. It could be ugly, but it also sets up for a great story if Lewis plays well.
