  1. The man hasn't had a job in the NFL since Buffalo. That tells me a lot. His choices for coaches were his worst decisions, above anything else. His ego got in the way....thinking that HE (and only he) could spot coordinator brilliance and he was going to show the NFL...instead of hiring guys with proven track records for a veteran-laden team. I won't forgive him for Gregg Williams, THE worst era of Bills football in my opinion since I became a fan in 1986.
  2. Edwards must go. I've seen what coaching can do for a defense. See what Wade Phillips did to the sieve of a Texans defense between this year and last. Part of me says Gailey and Nix should stay and the "money men" go. However, those money men have made the Bills the class of the NFL in terms of how to financially run an NFL franchise as a business. That, in part, has played an important role in keeping the Bills in Buffalo all these years. The team makes money and has no debt. The finances don't "make" ownership sell or get into dangerously adversarial relationships with the voters and municipality over stadiums and money. I'd probably only fire Edwards. I do think the Bills need to change the way they invest....and start investing in acquiring depth...and that means resigning your veteran half decent players while drafting your blue chips. You have to think about your team like an NBA roster...you have your starters, but you need your good sixth man and a competent "B" unit.
  3. Wow. Didn't catch the game yesterday. That ratio is completely unacceptable.
  4. I've been a big fan of Gailey but yesterday put serious doubt in my head. He's doing the thing that irritates me to no end about some NFL coaches. They abandon what's working in favor of "their" plan.
  5. Every game is winnable, yes.
  6. The Bills break the MCM curse this Sunday. New uniforms. Last minute win.
  7. I love the first comment on PFT: "Next steps: 1. Hire criminal attorney to defend against charges. 2. Hire trademark attorney to prevent Bills linebackers from using gun firing move."
  8. Why? Dave Rayner scares everybody. We can only hope for Lindell's speedy return.
  9. Best thing for the Bills to do is cut him. They won't of course, but he'll never be at full strength. To be a lineman, you need a strong, injury-free back.
  10. Can you predict any team outside the Packers? Seems like nearly every team is susceptible to either a swoon or win streak. If it's not the Bills, the Chargers, Titans, Bucs, Giants and Lions have all hit rough stretches during the season. Who says the same can't happen to the Bengals? Ravens? Jets? Broncos? Best we can all hope for is winning out and taking it from there.
  11. If you've got back and neck issues as an offensive or defensive lineman, you always play on borrowed time. You're never 100% and you're always one play away from getting seriously injured. They are injuries that can't be fully rehabilitated. Your back and neck are akin to the frame on a car. Once damaged and operated on, they are never the same. Marcus McNeil is my favorite example. The Chargers gave the man a six year, $50 million contract. This season, he's had two stingers to the neck, neck surgery in 2009, has spinal stenosis, and has had chronic neck and back issues going back to high school, not to mention numerous fractures of his hands through out his college career at Auburn and pro career. Yes, he's a two time pro-bowler but that was in 2006 and 200 before the neck surgery and before the spinal stenosis started becoming a problem. In any given year, any given game, he's done not only for the season, but his career, and the team is on the hook for a ton of money. The neck and back issues have certainly affected his play. I was amazed that San Diego gave him a big contract unless it was a thanks for paving the way for LT. That's why, even as a flyer, you pass on investing in Gaither. He's never going to be what you want him to be. Sadly, that goes for Troup too.
  12. Pass. Never pay linemen with neck or back issues.
  13. I think a lot of coaches will get fired and it will be an interesting coaching carousel of an off season. Reid Frazier Shanahan (He probably resigns.) Coughlin (Especially if there is another second half collapse, which is underway) Haley Turner Sparano Morris Garrett (No playoffs or first round exit gets him fired.) I have a hunch that if the Patriots somehow win the Super Bowl this year, Belichick will retire.
  14. We had four wins last year. We have five this year and could end up with ten. I'll take that.
  15. Dareus has been a great pick for the Bills. I wouldn't change it.
  16. I think Romney is going to have a tough time just getting through the primaries. He may lose two of the first three primary votes. Regardless of who the GOP puts up there, I think Obama is finished. He's tired of the country and the country is tired of him.
  17. They playoffs remain the goal I want however obscenely crazy it'd be to get in this year. However, a winning record and/or a sweep of NE would be absolutely outstanding.
  18. Losing should never be an objective. I wouldn't want coaches, front office staff, an owner or players committed to losing out. Glad you are none of the above.
  19. I'd say in the present, let's see what Lee Smith can do.
  20. Underutilized? Absolutely. I wish they'd go crazy and even use a two TE set and working over the linebackers. You manage possessions and wear out the defense.
  21. The season is not over.
  22. Spiller will succeed, and probably be influential in the win over the Jets. PFT's headline will be in 14 point font: RUNNING BACK CONTROVERSY EMERGES IN BUFFALO ESPN jumps on the Spiller train. This board erupts in a Jackson/Spiller debate that eclipses the famed Johnson/Flutie debate. The injustice of Fred Jackson not getting paid will continue because the cosmic forces really didn't like the cafeteria food at Coe College the one time they were called in for a Kohawks game.
  23. We have one capable of being an all-pro on the roster. You only become an all-pro TE if you are used consistently. If you're in a system, however, that absolutely, must, for some inexplicable reason, use 4 receiver sets constantly, your chances at being an all-pro TE are diminished.
  24. You guys read way too much into press conferences. It's like Philly fans trying to pull relevant facts from an Andy Reid presser. Professionals don't give up when things get tough, especially when future contracts, playing time and incentives are on the line. If anything, the motivation to do well is greater at this juncture than at any other point so far. Fitzpatrick needs to earn his deal otherwise he could be cut in theory. Spiller needs to avoid bust-ville. Guys like Williams, Searcy, Hairston, Aiken...want to earn their way. If you are Nix and Gailey, you don't want to tank on a team who's owner is 90+ years old, and an ownership change could occur at any moment. Winning is job security. Not player development. On a practical note, "player development" is a major loss in revenue when selling tickets is already difficult with a team still in the playoff hunt. You want fans buying all the new jerseys and merch, buying tickets and willingly handing money over to your business in support of the team. The season is not over.
  25. I hear you....but it's tough to grab a free agent center off the street and drop him in to the game three days later. Learning line calls, snap counts, just gelling with the quarterback...it'd be the Costa/Roma debacle magnified five times.
