Did Vontae Davis retire at halftime? Yes, yes he did!
NoSaint replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The question was answered pretty definitively and was unlikely to see more info. Dude was uninjured and pulled himself. That’s more than I expected to gather. I’d expect him on an exempt list of some variety tomorrow -
Josh Gordon to be released-now traded to PATS

Do you believe he never catches another pass? Or? -

Who cares if he gets it though? Right? That’s kind of my point and you keep going back to the fact that he doesn’t get it. Bingo. Which is why he might go for more than expected -

Nope. Dead money is previously paid cash that we had amortized. His future payments go to his new team. -

Forward Salary is never paid by the old team. But his salary is 790k. Prorate 2 games already paid by the browns it’s like 690k we would pay. -

Exactly. I won’t be upset by any day 3 pick really. If he goes for a day 2 you are starting to see an actual opportunity cost in picking him up and that’s where risk starts to kick in -

Right? But even beyond our situation... would you rather 1 year out of allen hurns, John Ross or amendola (as random names getting 5-6m this year), vs just stashing a guy like Gordon as someone you don’t count on but shows up occasionally for his entire career to date? It’s like 690k in salary to take him for the rest of this year. How many solidly really good games do you need for that and a 5 to be worthwhile? Like 4? 8? Hell has benjamin cracked 40 yards more than once for us? And he cost way more in cash and picks theoretically Exactly. I won’t be upset by any day 3 pick really. Honestly, for 6m the browns probably still got decent value outside of the frustration/embarrassment. The production was well worth 6m. We are giving 4m to kerley and Coleman for 1 game combined. -
Matt Moore should’ve been on this roster for a few years, honestly. Curious if they pull the trigger. He’s been my backup of choice since we were messing around with guys like kolb to try to fill the role. Low upside but a high floor that will keep a team functional even if not truly competitive And that’s why simply sliding into the playoffs isn’t a big accomplishment. Bad teams do it regularly. We may have gotten the 6 seed but we weren’t any type of force that you associate with the meaning of the phrase “playoff team” Reading the tea leaves, I don’t think this fit into their plan and actually qualifies as even outside their worst case scenario (I think they only expected this in case of injury this early) Not that I’m anti starting allen. Just think this went outside their expectations by a good bit.

Again, if you get 8 games out of him for a day three pick and 700k in salary you may have already won the trade. We would be looking at getting as close to 13-14 games out of him not 6 years Its not about proving he can be the answer long term. What he has proven though is with erratic qb play, and no weapons around him, he can step in and be hugely impactful with Little to no practice time with the team. -
Well, I’d chill with the rhetoric with phrases like ballistic. Maybe sub in a word like critical. from there, take the 1.13m we just flushed for a single game from kerley. Add 3 more for Coleman. You are starting to get towards “why not just sign a decent wr instead of wasting money” then look at DT with 20m tied up in dareus/star. Think carrying dareus and signing an OT or OG would’ve been better for this roster? then, look at the 10m in QBs not on the roster and peterman starting the season for us. then look at vontae then Trent ped Murphy. then paying dimarco for like 2 snaps. you start to see why people are questioning resource allocation and if better planning avoids some of this. yes we have a lot of dead money but did we inflict that unnecessarily? And did we waste some that we spent? Is guaranteeing a guy over $1m and cutting him less than a week later good business?

He likely gave him a one strike rule and coming in late with an injury that annoyed them was that strike. -

Unless you think it’s within the first week or two... I have to ask... so what? would you be upset if they traded a 7 and got 8 games 600 yards and 5 touchdowns from him? The discussion isn’t for Gordon to be the long term answer. It’s whether he can help take a little pressure off allen for 3 months. -

Unless they gave a high pick of guaranteed dollars, I don’t mind a short leash. I’d hope it a reasonable length though (realistic expectations and all). -

But we dont have those at WR already. At least with a move like this we would have a guy that might show up on Sunday. Currently we have like 1-2 on the WR depth chart that might put in an nfl caliber game any given week.. It’s not like we’d be cutting an actual player to do this. -

Im curious where the report is coming from. Seems it hurts everyone involved to leak it, unless some browns coach mouthed off trying to look good over cutting him then found out they were trying to trade him. Maybe Gordon’s agent thinking free agency is the place to be and a bunk rumor helps get him there? Regardless - the league can’t just say enough without a test -

Yea- it was a dumb trade to accept his guaranteed dollars and then apparently expect him to immediately flip a switch. You only get Coleman if you are keeping him the year barring him getting worse. If Gordon was high, I’d pass, but if he tweaked a hammy filming a promo shoot and ran a few minutes late on his way to confirming he’d be out... I grant a little more leeway. -

Agreed. Though, even as someone good with the move, I’d have a pretty low cap in how high I’d go with the pick I offered.
