Drew Brees: Controversial comments

he unfortunately follows it with “I recognize that I am part of the solution and can be a leader for the black community in this movement. ” he needs to understand he is not the qb of the black rights movement, he is the support staff. I do imagine that’s difficult for a man wired like him - but when he gets it, it’ll get him out of hot water. -

I don’t think that’s the case here either though. The dude does do a lot but he’s being tone deaf and thick headed on this particular issue. It doesn’t have to make him the devil or a supporter of police brutality. It makes him a dumbass in this moment. -

“you shouldn’t do that” often begets “you should shut up and mind your own business” when someone’s making a thoughtful statement “I made a personal choice to support in this manner instead and encourage my teammates to do what they believe works Best for them because my locker room is full of smart and empowered men” plays a little different. -

the thing is you can stand hand over heart but once you say you don’t agree with others choice not to you have invited their feedback since you are judging their actions. in a locker room setting the dude needs to know better. -

he donated $5m to food banks like a month ago. He’s not the devil. But he’s incredibly tone deaf on this despite having been through it before. It’s not the first time he’s confused being a leader of football players with being the voice of the community. Even his apology had that line about being a leader of the black community instead of simply supporter of it. -

no he gets it and he’s been through this before. where he gets it wrong is thinking his opinion on what other people should be doing is more valuable than it really is. -
Which players do we trade away during training camp?
NoSaint replied to Orlando Buffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
barkley was available mid season and hasn’t really added to his resume. Webb’s story isn’t much better. I have a hard time seeing either considered. -
Any other teams training together?

18m? I think it’s a real long shot he resets the TE market by 70-80% vs the second highest tight end and is paid in line with elite WR in a way no other tight end has been. if that is what you think an elite tight end deserves I will agree that they are very rare. So rare one that one apparently has never been found in the nfl. I do think they’d rather sign 2 top 5 tight ends at current top TE pay rates instead of kittle at that point.
-
the niners wouldn’t pause for even a second on which they’d take at $20m... and the answer isn’t kittle.
-
And that may cap his career once injuries start to pile up.

Just realized the article I got gronks numbers from had Olsen deeper in it. Didn’t find Graham’s yet... OLSEN VS. SAFETIES/LINEBACKERS, 2016-17 Targets: 117 Receptions: 69 Receiving yards: 975 TD-INT: 4-0 Passer rating: 97.4 OLSEN VS. CORNERBACKS, 2016-17 Targets: 39 Receptions: 20 Receiving yards: 199 TD-INT: 0-0 Passer rating: 66.2

you are talking about a team. I’m talking about a league. That’s all. I don’t think your point added much to the overall context though and is mostly a distraction from the core of the discussion. The best player on any unit can be just about any position depending on the scheme, coach, and talent they happen to have. There are still obvious and accepted league cornerstones. in gronks case, the lack of an elite WR may have been a pretty impactful issue (negatively) on that offense though. Look at what they did with randy moss for instance.
-
Here’s some data from gronk in his prime to back up my previously claim of drop off when a corner is committed to the coverage. the catch rate should jump off the screen. I’m trying to track down some others as if I recall correctly jimmy Graham’s during his tag debate was even more dramatic. GRONK VS. SAFETIES/LINEBACKERS, 2016-17 Targets: 115 Receptions: 79 Receiving yards: 1,338 TD-INT: 9-0 Passer rating: 133.9 GRONK VS. CORNERBACKS, 2016-17 Targets: 24 Receptions: 11 Receiving yards: 192 TD-INT: 1-1 Passer rating: 70.1

yes and they also drafted Brady in the 6th round. there are exceptions to any rule. When you have a generational talent at TE and bums at WR he can certainly be more impactful. As a standard around the league WRs are still the more valued position. gronk also was never paid or drafted as a top pass catcher in the league. Just a very good one. Kind of the point. Much like the other guy arguing he would put 2 in the top 10 pass catchers.
-
my argument was with someone saying TE was the second most impactful position behind qb. obviously WR is more impactful and there’s evidence of that from a variety of angles. that doesn’t mean a tight end doesn’t have impact. Obviously they do. A great receiving back or a slot receiver can effect the defense too... but WR1 is the premium pass catcher in the league.
-
that’s simply not true. Toss Gilmore on him and he’s done. Tight end stats Evaporate when covered by a good corner - but those corners are dedicated to the WR1 who is much more game changing. As indicated by their pay scale and draft position. a good tight end is a great resource but you are terribly wrong if you think kitties is as impactful as the top wide receivers.
-
And his tag would follow that. As per the previous arbitration.
-
I think that’s a bigger commentary on the people that act like it’s a huge feat than an example of the texans being good. to be fair, this is a year that he is supposed to wildly overachieve. Which means I’m excited to see it, but won’t say it’s defining of his career for sure. And yet here you are still spending time. maybe next time just give a better contribution out of the gate or skip it altogether
-
prefer to see the owners get much more money? Not sure that solves your problem, other than fewer people to be mad at. he did say directly and indirectly. those other streams are only lucrative because you tune in
-
Otherwise, nailed it.

micah made it

meh. If you are thrilled with a elite receiver and great teammate on a team friendly deal, you probably don’t take a pick in the 20s for him. The dude has some history and had some baggage and it’s ok to acknowledge that too without it being a deep dark secret being unearthed. Frankly, even in this story it’s prompted by some friction, despite the wed love to have him tone today
-
at the start of the offseason- yes. I’ve been a Clowney advocate for awhile. at this point, it’s a bit meh. I don’t think he takes a 1 for 12. If he did the 4m-5m in extra cap space (dead plus salary) would justify the upgrade but if getting into the high teens I’m less enthusiastic about a DE with this roster make up. maybe one of the corners out there instead. Call me insane but if cam can humble himself for 8 months, it would make me feel better with taking the bubble wrap off josh and seeing what he can do with his legs as a consistent threat. I’d hope they would have a read on whether it’s remotely possible given their history with him so not advocating as much as noting for similar price it’s insurance and also gives some flex.
