What was up with Beasley today?
BADOLBILZ replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He knew he was lying when he called out the entire Bills fanbase for harassing him for his choice/beliefs/performance. He cried wolf...........after that, any subsequent vague complaint can be presumed false or exaggerated. -

Nobody who didn't make their way to that stadium and sit in the pouring rain for 3 hours to literally support their team in person and financially has any right whatsoever to question the loyalty of any Bills fan in attendance. Common sense but we have a lot of tough talkers with big hats and no cattle on TSW. -
Milano finished both his first and second seasons injured and unavailable. As for the soft tissue injuries being random............I don't know about that. I think some players(like Poz) just get better at managing their body to avoid injuries............hopefully that's the case with Milano going forward.

He's played 5 seasons and has over 400 less snaps......basically 6-7 games worth..........than Tremaine Edmunds has in just 4 seasons. Downplaying it is stupid..........it's an issue..........he ended BOTH the 2017 and 2018 seasons injured..........and last season was a struggle to get him healthy enough to play full games.

The Edmunds Report - Week 4, Texans v. Bills, 10/03/21

I will be pleased with "adequate" against Mahomes. -

That joke formula is supposed to be for things totally unexpected before the season started. Blowing out the Texans was expected. Beasley getting boos was expected. I for one am not going to boo the guy. But people want him to get his shot so he doesn't end up costing the Bills games with protocol issues(at the very least). Beas is a hard head but if you don't think external pressure works on even the numbest of skulls then ask Andrew Wiggins. -
The Edmunds Report - Week 4, Texans v. Bills, 10/03/21
BADOLBILZ replied to Freddie's Dead's topic in The Stadium Wall
Haven't re-watched it yet but even though the D played very few snaps overall......it seemed like he had the best game of his career. I overheard people talking in the stands early in the game about Edmunds being ticked off about being referenced as a bust in the media...........not sure if he made any statement or what...........and then he promptly went out and made plays that he hasn't made in 2-3 years. As I've said........MLB is a devalued position and one of the reasons is that it's hard for an inside backer to really have much impact in games against top QB's..........in big games against good QB's the defensive performance usually comes down to how you perform at edge and island positions. The days where MLB's gotta' make their hay are against the rookies, scrubs and washed up QB's. Edmunds hadn't been doing that thru 3 games against bad QB's so far.........but today he did. Hopefully he keeps it up. The Bills only have a handful of games against top veteran QB's left so the schedule is ripe with opportunity. -
I haven't re-watched the game but my impression was that Brown played very well. And the fans love the guy.........he plays to the crowd. Ford is in a really inexplicable spiral. He was overdrafted for need and not a great prospect.......but there is no reason he should be playing as bad as he has.

The new and improved Star is playing very well. The days of slow dancing.....even with single blocks.....at the LOS appear to be in the past. It was quite obvious last year that the Bills wanted to get away from that "nose tackle" type 2 gapper at DT1T..........they never made any attempt to get another after Star opted out and he's back and in penetrating shape and playing aggressive and earning his pay (cut) finally. On pace to blow away his career highs for sacks and pressures and tackles. "In theory" tying up blockers keeps your LB clean, but in reality it's a passing league and your DL is more useful if they are making plays.

What was up with Beasley today?
BADOLBILZ replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I sit right below the press box on the home side and he is definitely being boos. But the majority of the people making noise, like myself, are saying "Beeeez". The low frequency of the boos drowns out the "eeee" and makes it sound like A LOT more boo's than there are. And the idea that the people booing him are asking for autographs is absurd..........they despise the guy. Beasley is just very immature.........always perceiving the maximum degree of slight.........he was that way in Dallas too. They treated him well and the fans loved him but he left there pouting. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if things escalated to where they had to release him in-season because he's THAT disruptive with his lack of emotional intelligence. Unfortunately, even though he's still very good I don't think anyone would trade anything for him given his vax status. -
Yeah Oweh forcing Edwards Helaire to fumble was probably the play of the NFL season so far.

Actually unicorns are mythical........which is what the legend of Edmunds uniqueness is.......so I stand self-corrected. WE actually are used to seeing the style of MLB that Edmunds plays............nobody uses run-defense first LB's anymore.........they all have a lot of coverage responsiblity. They are also all quite helpless against a great QB unless they get great pass rush.............which is why it's a significantly devalued position. With rare exception, your Island positions on defense ultimately determine the effectiveness against top QB's. Paying any MLB/ILB in the $20M aav range is a dubious decision and if using a mid-first round pick on one they had better play at an All Pro level. Deterring the QB from taking hole shot in cover 2 is a nice trait..........but QB's have subsituted that throw for others that directly attack Edmunds himself.........which is why he's been rung up for a QB rating well over 100, allowed 4 passing TD's and a ghastly 12 yards per completion since the beginning of 2020. To be elite you gotta' do more than Tremaine has. So I can see not expecting Edmunds to be terribly impactful against the Chiefs.............he was awful in the AFCCG...........but it's the games against rookies and journeyman and washed up 40 year olds where he should be able to make plays. Tomorrow is his 4th shot at a scrub QB this season.......this is where you want your 1st round MLB to make an impact. As for me being on a crusade against Edmunds........like I said, he's a top 10-12 MLB/ILB..........it's hardly a campaign of bashing.........his own coaches acknowledge that he doesn't make enough plays.

Do you still have friends from middle and high school?
BADOLBILZ replied to Another Fan's topic in Off the Wall
Yes. Some even from Sunday school days. And some even whose grandfathers were friends of my grandparents when they all lived on Long Island before moving to WNY together. Went on short notice to see @Kelly the Dog at LA Bills backers bar in Santa Monica for that game where Orton brought the Bills back to beat the Vikings........and walked in an hour before the game and the only person in the place was one of those guys I've known all my life, whose dad had just given me brussel sprouts from his garden a few days earlier when I was still in NY. Small world and my friends from school years are spread all over the place but the Bills(and Yankees as well) definitely serve to bring us together. -

Yeah.........at home........incredibly loud crowd behind them..........facing a journeyman on his 6th(?) team making his first career road start..........you gotta' be able to get to that guy. It doesn't get much easier opposing-QB-wise than a 3 game stretch facing Has Ben, Brissett and Heinicke...........and yet the only consistent pass rush they've got was a game that the DC threw an absolute barrage of blitzes out there. -
Yeah it's not looking like an extraordinary QB class at this point. Corral looks like the most impressive physical specimen of the big names........at the 2017 elite 11 he is the guy who drew the Brett Favre comps(Fields got Tyrod comps😉)...........but he's also had the benefit of seasoning over younger guys like Rattler and Howell. He's a redshirt Junior and will turn 23 about the time that Ole Miss plays their bowl game.
-
Rousseau was an honorable mention. Seems fair.........there have been some really impressive rookies and Rousseau and the Bills DL had one game where they put up numbers(thanks in great part to a ton of blitzing) but have otherwise not put up big plays to earn the accolades.

Spencer Brown - will he start on the OL? (Update - Yes)
BADOLBILZ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He struggled at guard coming right off of missing most of the prior season with a serious knee injury........it wasn't simply a position switch issue. -
Tell me about other LB's. I've gone into detail on the differences between Edmunds and the best. I've illustrated how others make plays given similar responsibilities. We will always have a group of homers like yourself on here who don't follow the rest of the league but want to tell everyone how unique what a certain Bills player brings to the table is. He's a good player..........but unfortunately his trajectory is a lot like Tyrod Taylor at QB.........Tyrod threw for more yards per attempt in 2015 than Josh Allen did last year........Edmunds came out the box making plays...........but in the process of trying to be more responsible they both lost that big play ability. Maybe Edmunds was destined to become a small play MLB once teams got tape on him............but I think more likely he just hasn't been able to combine all of the mental aspects of the game and still be able to play a style that's conducive to playmaking. That's why I say I am still hopeful that the game slows down for him. But 49 starts and 3000 snaps is A LOT of time to wait.

Well apparently McDermott says they should have done better too. I know you were a secretary at OBD 40 years ago and you picked up Ben Williams dry cleaning a couple times............but when the normally evasive Bills HC makes a point to criticize DL play then you can bet that he expects more from a DL full of highly paid and highly drafted players. They aren't a bunch of overachievers..........they basically spent almost ALL of their improvement chips on the DL this offseason.........it's fair to expect consistent pressure at home with a raucous crowd behind them. Now bring me a coffee and hold my calls. -
Exaggerating the impact of certain Bills players? Nah. There are actually players who are making the best play they can on defense..........Edmunds is just rarely one of them..........that's why you don't see interceptions, forced fumbles, recoveries, pressures, sacks etc.. from Tremaine. It's not because he's not being put in position to make them. @GoBills808 thinks turnovers and therefore turnover differential is entirely random but the reality is that the differential is as decisive of a stat as there is in the sport..........and Edmunds has a LONG track record of not contributing to that number.
-
This is how I feel as well. They tend to take a glass 3/4 full approach to a lot of things Bills and I can see where that serves the model..........homers subscribe to read about the positive and at worst, the hope. But Cover 1 do tend to go out of their way to try to re-inforce their prior questionable takes. The recent one discussed here regarding Edmunds "creating" the Poyer interception against Washington is a good example. Routine play........room to have played it better.........but when you've been selling "high impact" and there aren't plays to show for it, you've gotta' sell greatness in the routine. Erik's take on what Star Lotulelei was going to bring to the Bills after he was signed was illustrated with a few plays that he pulled from Carolina tape..........one was a play where Lotulelei basically just stayed upright and Kuechly made a great, but fairly routine for him, TFL. Another was a "triple team" where the OL clearly made a mistake in protection that he was selling as him commanding 3 blockers. I get why it fits the business model but it's not accurate or even realistic at times.

Nah. They were playing defense at a high level going into the AFCCG last season. But they were intimidated and beaten before they got off the bus that day(and to an extent in the earlier game with their play-not-to-lose gameplan). It wouldn't have mattered what their defensive ranking was. KC could have finished 15-1 if they needed to so they were going to get home field and a scared Bills team wasn't beating them.
-
It's a realistic take..........which some of you can't handle. What Washington was attempting to do on that play was dot Edmunds up for a quick 12 yards or so like the Dolphins did on a similar play(3rd and 13) the week prior. Give him credit for realizing that mistake was on tape and that Washington would try to help themselves to some of that low hanging fruit. But an instinctive MLB instead baits Heinicke into throwing that pass into double coverage and HE takes the responsibility to make the play on the football..........passing the responsibility off to Milano in chase mode was one way to do it but not the best way. And that's really what it comes down to more often than not with Tremaine.........he usually gets the job done.....like in a different play last week......helping make the tackle one yard short on a 3rd and 15 screen pass in Miami........but he almost never makes the best play that could have been made by a MLB in that position. And that's not to say a ton of MLB do make the best play......there are very few even above average performers at the position in the NFL. But it's a devalued position for a reason. Middling MLB play doesn't get you beaten...........middling CB play or pass rush does that.
