  1. The charging Buffalo is one of the great logo's in sport.........people have become fans of the Bills because of that logo. The Grazer......the target.......the dead buffalo........is one of the lamest logos in sports. They "threw it away" for a good reason. Great jersey though.
  2. The NHL point system and OT are as gimmicky as sports get in North America............so why not have a midseason play-in tournament.........or just give the top 4 teams byes and let the rest of the league fight it out in a 2-3 week series to qualify to play the best. Still get your long playoff season but you reward the best teams.........and incentivize the worst. I know these ideas are nothing new but effort like the Sabres have been giving in the first 6 games of the season shouldn't be unusual.
  3. Upsets once in a while are fun. But the best regular season team in the NHL hasn't won the Cup in 9 years (2012-2013 Blackhawks). Why should players be invested in a regular season that means so little? If you want to see more consistent effort.........make it worth something to the players..........there isn't enough at stake.
  4. A gift is something that is given..........touch/timing is natural to many passers.......a gift they have..........for some that's all that gets them to the league.........it's very valuable to be gifted with it. Allen is going to have to work for that........it's most definitely not been gifted to him. He will throw seemingly simple touch passes that look like a HS JV QB at times(like the screens to RB's in the KC game). Most natural gifts can be improved upon........Allen is proof of that........he has improved his accuracy, running speed.......a number of things. Brady is obviously the standard, he is more physically talented at 44 than he was early in his career. But is Allen more naturally gifted than guys like Herbert or Lawrence? I think they both throw with better natural touch, timing and anticipation than Allen. It's readily apparent. They are both very big, very athletic and have very strong arms. On the hoof they are very comparable and maybe even more "gifted" than Allen. What Allen doesn't get enough credit for is his mental makeup.........he's smart, driven to win and has a ton of emotional intelligence...........which makes him a leader and that is a non-physical trait that combines with his gifts to give him a chance to be an all-time great.
  5. I'm guessing the smell of booze emanating from his pores gave away the cause of the fall. I remember when they picked him up passed out drunk at a stop sign and he said he just had "sleep apnea". Times were different then.
  6. Actually, the thing that makes hockey a sport where "team play" can beat superstars is that it's the pro sport where you get the least consistent effort from the product from night to night. When your team is playing hard and smart, it's fun to watch. The NBA has elicited greater effort by basically turning the players into greedy CEO's on the court.......there is so much money to be made. The NHL isn't going to have that kinda' $ motivation so they really should be looking to do things to make the regular season more important. The playoffs are way too ***** long. Byes for the top teams would be good. Nobody needs to see a 1 versus 8 series in round 1. Let the barely qualified teams fight it out in short series for the right to play the teams that dominated the regular season etc..
  7. GTFOH with that nonsense. Alex Smith didn't have a career resurgence in KC. He was having an excellent season in SF in 2012........including putting up over 600 yards of offense against Buffalo(worst defensive game in Bills history, how could you forget who the QB was).......before an injury ended his season and he was traded to KC that offseason. His completion % dropped from 70% to 60% in his first year in KC and his yards per attempt fell from 8.0 to 6.5. That's A LOT if you didn't know. The next season the Chiefs with Andy Reid and Alex Smith at the helm became the only team since the merger to not throw a single touchdown pass to a wide receiver. All the while, he was a steady and productive QB. He had an excellent year in 2017 but the team was only 9-6 in his starts. He also had the benefit of the league's leading rusher.......a near 2,000 yard all purpose season from Kareem Hunt........and a top 10 defense. And they promptly lost in the WC round yet again. Mahomes inherited a dynamic offense but didn't get the same Kareem Hunt. The Chiefs defense also fell off significantly in 2018. Mahomes lead a lesser team to the #1 seed in the conference. He was the difference maker. I'm not saying the Chiefs didn't set him up to succeed but the notion that they were overwhelming the league offensively prior to drafting Mahomes is not true. In fact, the 2016 Bills offense was BETTER than the 2016 Chiefs offense. The Bills chose to tear it down and not select a QB that spring.
  8. I don't believe the "most physically gifted QB" stuff with Allen. He is a beast but he still lacks the touch and timing of other elite passers. That is part of the physical equation, IMO. If he can throw it on a line he is as good as it gets. If he has to put air under the throw he's not as impressive as Brady(obviously) nor the other young QB's Mahomes, Murray, Herbert or Burrow. The advantage he has is that he is an absolute physical beast. If the throws aren't there he can run for big plays and get away with it easier than those other guys. He also may be able to outlast the other guys........and finish more seasons........because he is built to withstand punishment. Basically Kyler Murray's season came apart last year because he got hit a few times and lost his edge. In the back of my mind I expect that to be the case this year as well.
  9. Interestingly, even during some stretches of drafts where the QB quality wasn't very good.........the trend of 1st contract QB teams reaching SB's has been pretty consistent. Even utter imposter franchise QB's like Kaepernick and Goff and Wentz(got Eagles home field) have been good enough to ride the signficant roster advantage into team SB appearances. Guys like Flacco and Cam have had more good seasons than those guys but they also were relative shooting stars that probably got to SB's more because of 1st contract roster timing than anything else.
  10. Yes, you and some people in this thread are definitely playing make believe. Patrick Mahomes having won a SB is not make believe, it's reality. The damage is done already........he's won a SB and he's also directly prevented you from reaching a SB. By rights, after 3 years of #1 seed status his team SHOULD be cycling out somewhat.........so being like "but yeah NOW I think Josh Allen will be better than him" just because the Bills are in a temporarily favorable roster/schedule situation is a pretty humorous way of looking at it.
  11. As I said.......nobody was saying that Kelce and Hill were an "outrageous" offensive tandem when they played with Alex Smith at QB. That's why they paid top dollar for Sammy in free agency in 2018. I suggest anyone that has game pass go back and watch that 2017 game between the Chiefs and Bills...........the quality of QB play from the above average and productive Alex Smith to the spectacular Patrick Mahomes was immense. The Bills defense forced the Chiefs skill players into positions where they knew Alex Smith would struggle to get them the ball, effectively neutralizing their offense. 2018 Mahomes playing in that game would have blown the Bills doors off that day. The weapons are nice but his ability to make throws that can't be defensed has been a game changer. If you don't think the situation is similar here with Allen you are wrong. He makes throws all the time that allow guys like Diggs and Sanders and Knox to run routes that are impossible to defense. People don't appreciate the difficulty of plays like the TD throw to Diggs late in the Arizona game last season.......or even the over shoulder TD pass to Sanders in KC two weeks ago. Those are plays only a great thrower of the football can make and they make the skill players look that much more dynamic.
  12. Correct.........they have a window where they are set up to have the perfect storm of competitive advantages to win. That's this year and *maybe* next. After that they will have to win in spite of a competitive disadvantage against teams with their own perfect set up. Maybe the QB well will run dry and that will change but over the last 9 years there has been a "first contract" QB team in 8 of those SB's. They have won 4 (and none have won again, obviously) and Brady has won 4 and the outlier Lombardi was won by the Broncos defense(over rookie deal Cam). And frankly, one could argue that Brady as the supreme GOAT should probably be making double what he has earned in those seasons and by taking half that is a big reason why he has been able to get to so many himself. Rodgers, Russ and Mahomes all have won just the one SB and ain't playing for half their value. Neither will Josh.
  13. No, I guess you missed it.......Mahomes has actually won a SB already. If the question is who will be the better QB "going forward" then that question is a big "who cares" if neither of them wins a SB because Mahomes already has one. My support of Josh Allen has never wavered........liked the pick.......saw the potential.......enjoyed watching him play..........but I root for the laundry..........the objective is to win the SB not to just lose in the playoffs 10+ times over the course of some "favorite player's😙" career.
  14. You see that's just a difference in personality...........I don't derive any satisfaction from winning guessing games.........the question itself bores me. I'm the house in this gambling equation so I would just say that if it doesn't happen in this season or the next, the odds decrease significantly. So there's that. It's also more fun when it happens if you didn't just assume it would, but if you want to count em before they hatch, you do you but I prefer to count em' when the dealin' is done.
  15. First of all, you don't go to Applebees or McDonalds after you just won a playoff game and not expect a bunch of inconsiderate but well intentioned fans to bother you. But he was gracious to all the fans to their faces at least. Just poor judgement to eat in such a public place on his part.
  16. Long term includes the past. The assumption is that Allen will win more SB's than Mahomes.....IF you wait it out. And he might, but a Lombardi in the hand is worth more than a whole bunch of imaginary future ones. Hence, the point being moot until it aint. What you are talking about is "from now going forward" ie "just the future" Allen will be more successful than Mahomes. If Allen plays better for the next 12 years but never wins a SB.........then give me Mahomes and the 1 SB....whether Mahomes plays another down. I already lived the Jim Kelly experience, it was fun but I don't need a refresh. And I'm definitely a "journey is the reward" guy........but I know the ONLY thing that will make me appreciate the journey more is at least 1 SB win. Just getting beaten in the playoffs 10 of 12 years from 1988-1999 was ok but been there, done that.
  17. So should they still play out the next 8+ months of the NHL season or no?
  18. This is literally the definition of being sensitive about it. You are a mess of emotion about these teams............just suck it up and move back to WNY and live it every day. That should cure you of your guilt-driven mania.

    Dune

That was an extremely interesting documentary. Chronologically, Dune should have preceded Star Wars and Alien...........and when the huge scale movie fell apart the people who worked on it (and the people who had seen the story boarding etc..) took parts of Jodorowsky's Dune and incorporated them into so many great movies of the late 70's and 80's. The cast they had hired was amazing. Sadly it was never made into a movie but the reality is by the mid-80's so much of the planned script had been pilfered into other films that it would have seemed derivative of those films.
  20. You wouldn't even have traded up for Travis Etienne? C'mon, man. (I always have to keep in mind that half of the people responding to these threads would draft a running back in round 1. ) Lotta' lyin' and denyin' going on in this thread. 😉 It's about winning it all. I'm enjoying every moment of this season, cuz that's how I am, but as a fan of teams who have won titles........unless you have some mental illness where you are more engaged by feeling bad for yourself.........winning one makes everything that much more enjoyable thereafter.
  21. The Chiefs were productive but highly inconsistent........they didn't spend $16M per on Sammy Watkins after that season because they thought Kelce and Hill were enough........they hadn't been enough to advance in the playoffs despite a very well regarded, productive QB. The Bills had no problem shutting them down in KC that season either.........and that was immediately after the worst 3 game defensive stretch if franchise history. Now the 2016 Bills..........they had EXCELLENT offensive numbers. Going into the finale (where they tanked by benching Tyrod) they were 7th in the NFL in scoring, lead the NFL in rushing for the second straight season, lead the NFL in big plays (with over 100 plays of 20+ yards) for the second straight season.........and despite all that talent they had produced the fewest turnovers thru 15 games of any team since the AFL/NFL merger. So the idea that Mahomes could only have inherited bad talent in Buffalo is a fallacy.........there was a lot of talent on those Whaley/Rex teams. The Bills chose to re-organize........the Chiefs chose to trade up for a QB and keep their frustrating/disappointing roster intact........including the highly controversial Tyreek Hill....... to see what the stud young QB could do with it. They kept it together and have had home field advantage in each of the last 3 AFC playoffs, won the AFC twice and a Super Bowl. It's easy to say you'd rather be in the Bills shoes right now when KC is struggling against a tough schedule after 3 straight years of conference domination..........but if any fanbase should know that a SB-in-hand is worth a dynasty in the bush it's Bills fans.
  22. Where people are confused is the notion that drafting Mahomes would have still resulted in the same moves made by the organization. McDermott.......and likely Beane, who knew he was going to be the GM.......had decided that offseason that Trubisky, Mahomes and Watson weren't going to be as good as the stellar 2018 class of Darnold, Rosen, Allen and Jackson(Mayfield was a late riser). So they planned to not take a QB.......take a willing step back in the name of culture while loading up on draft picks to trade up for their young QB.........so they didn't need guys like Bob Woods or Sammy Watkins in place. They let one walk for what turned out to be a bargain deal for LA and they traded the other to LA........where they helped turn the Rams offense into a force. If the Bills go into that offseason with the mindset that this Bills team should have won 12 games in each of the past two seasons.......that the young core of guys like Gilmore and Woods and Watkins/Darby must be maintained.......and that they were a stud QB and good coaching away from contention, then everything changes. Remember, nobody was saying the Bills were old or in cap hell until after that was used as an excuse for big roster changes. The idea that the Chiefs were much better set up than the Bills going into the 2017 offseason is incorrect. The Chiefs were in a very similar position.........the teams were neck and neck since Marrone and Reid arrived in the jobs. They played close games almost every year that swung their playoff destiny. The narrative in KC when all they had was Tyreek Hill and Kelce (and even Kareem Hunt) was that they were very under-powered offensively. One season under Reid they didn't have a single TD pass thrown to a WR! Go back to Bills at Chiefs 2017 for reference on their offensive inconsistency and struggles. Mahomes changed all of that and his abilities elevated Hill and Kelce to much greater heights. He would have elevated the talent in place in Buffalo too and they would have had A LOT more assets to acquire talent without all the trading up they had to do to acquire Allen. Unless McDermott and Beane sucked at their jobs then success would have been inevitable.
