So you are just saying that Joe Mixon is "3X the player that Devin Singletary is" but not worth $12M per year that you didn't know they gave him despite supposedly knowing a lot more about him than me? Terrible takes in this thread, dave. Are you reversing the course of your past common sense to pander to the heavily 55+ TSW crowd that still thinks the 1990 brand of NFL football can be revived again if they just Billieve in them runnin' bax? Those days are over, dave. The running game is really not about the running backs themselves anymore.
-
What? No runnin' bax? The lower the importance of the offensive or defensive position............the more the average TSW user wants to use a first round pick on it.

What would the Bears do with All Pro Roquan Smith if they traded for the far inferior Tremaine Edmunds?

Offensive stat that needs to be improved - YAC

Offensive stat that needs to be improved - YAC
BADOLBILZ replied to CorkScrewHill's topic in The Stadium Wall
While this is all true...........they really didn't have players who would be great at taking short passes for big yardage in 2021. They really could use that kind of receiver to take some of the load off of Allen and to address the defense's that are better equipped to stop the Bills from succeeding with air yards. In 2020 Daboll schemed John Brown that way...........his production in YAC was largely the difference between finishing 23rd in YAC in 2020 and being dead last in 2021. They certainly missed that aspect during that 3-5 stretch where the OL wasn't giving Allen enough time to push the ball downfield. But as I used to say to the people who would complain about the Bills lack of passing game under Anthony Lynn(despite being a top scoring offense and leading the league in big plays on offense)...........you can't throw a TD pass when you've already ran the ball into the end zone. It's not like the offense isn't excellent.........there is just an area that clearly could be improved and it's not entirely a schematic issue. -
There is no moving of goal posts...........if he had run for 200 yards like Timmy Smith in the SB versus Denver it still doesn't change the fact that RB's are easily replaceable and that the position is more dependent on the production of the other 10 players on the field than any other. So what he had a lot of "touches"..............the Bengals scored just 24 points in regulation. You really think they win that game if 1 of Burrow or Chase or Tee Higgins misses that game but don't do it if a RB is out? Vegas would disagree, dave. As for their OL............it's poor but so was the Buffalo O-line for much of the year. Buffalo gave up way more combined pressures and sacks than Cinci on the season. You.........dave mcbride........ are the one always talking about sacks being a "QB stat" and those 51 sacks plus 9 more in the divisional playoff game are the reason why Cinci gets cited for having a such woeful OL. But like Buffalo versus NE in the playoffs...........the Bengals OL played better in KC than they had in prior games. You are usually more rational than to buy into total yards and percent of snaps as proof of impact............in the right conditions any back can help your team take the air out of ball and shorten games.......production per play matters A LOT.....and speaking of moving goal posts..........you have always been very quick to point out the great importance of yards per pass attempt but now don't think averaging below league average per rush attempt matters? Say what? I don't even think you believe your own BS here you just take offense to me lumping RB's together when Joe Mixon is on your fantasy team.

Quinton Spain comments on release from the Bills
BADOLBILZ replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
Spain is a lot like Jordan Phillips...........bite the hand that feeds you..........then treat the team that picks you up off the scrap heap like they are just the best! Cardinals can save $4.3M on the cap by cutting Phillips this offseason............seems like an obvious cut...........this board will blow up if he becomes available and I don't have a problem bringing him back but the Bills basically gotta' let he and his agent get a "no" from 30 other teams first before taking him on dirt cheap.........or risk being the @ssholes in the same fashion that Spain turned on them the first time they bench or inactivate him. -

Quinton Spain comments on release from the Bills
BADOLBILZ replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's easy to look at how the offense produced at the end and think that the OL is looking good now..........but I agree this would be the smartest use of the money. The OL struggles totally undermined the team in that 8 game stretch where they went 3-5. Even if Morse doesn't retire they have little reliable depth inside...........I don't trust Williams to be any more prepared to start this season...........there is no guarantee that Bates will be able to maintain his level of play as a starter. Job #1 is protect Josh Allen. -
Yep a lot of people definitely forget the general perspective they had heading into the playoffs this year. Perspective can change FAST. After the Bills lost that Monday night game to NE people were furious and many felt all was lost. At our post game tailgate that night I detailed how it was going to go from there..........the Bills would win in NE and grind out the division title and meet the Patriots at home in the wild card game and it would be glorious to exact that revenge in those games and be 1-0 all time against NE in the playoffs. At that time a lot of fans thought the team would miss the playoffs entirely.........and even when that scenario played out A LOT of fans were worried stiff about losing that game to NE and how they would feel if they lose that game etc.........confidence was not sky high.......only in hindsight is NE now viewed as a cupcake opponent in the WC round and that a lost season of SB destiny occurred in KC.

Quinton Spain comments on release from the Bills
BADOLBILZ replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Bills OL was definitely quite terrible until late in the season. I will say though that some of that wasn't for lack of talent on hand like it is for the Bengals. Dawkins struggled after two bouts with covid.........Brown was a very raw rookie.........Williams seemed out of shape after getting paid...........the outside zone attack didn't suit any of the interior OL and LG was a total black hole until Bates was inserted..............so when all of those factors were resolved to different degrees they notably improved. Still should address the OL once or twice in the first 3 rounds in this draft..........give Bates a second round tender and sign a good UFA if Morse retires. -
No he's definitely a bit player. If Ja'Marr Chase goes down they simply can't replace him with an equally productive/impactful player. If Joe Mixon goes down they can find another guy to run for 4.1 yards off the street. The bottom line with RB's: there is a sweet spot..........you find one good enough to produce when called upon........but not so intriguing that you feel compelled to "give him his touches". Devin Singletary totally checks those boxes if your target point in the run game is between the tackle and the guard. He's ordinary on the eyes.........but he consistently outproduces most RB's when he gets the ball. Joe Mixon is that guy who breaks off that exciting looking run that makes you think if you give him the ball more he will do that more...........while simultaneously forgetting why he always ends up with just 4 yards per carry every year.
-
Jags should just send a split squad..........Jags A vs. Jags B........just call it a tie for the standings. Who disapproves?
-
Henry wasn't a legit MVP candidate.........he was barely getting 4 yards per carry...........his play had dropped off considerably they were just feeding him the ball at a record clip and their WR corps was together early in the season so they were more dynamic. Career scrub Foreman more than replicated what Henry brought to the table and the stark difference in what Henry is now versus Foreman was evident in the playoff game where Foreman made it look easy against the Bengals D. Feeding Henry when he was clearly the less dynamic back stopped their offense in the playoffs, not the Bengals defense. The imaginary, incalculable impact of an elite RB is so great that their teams somehow never win SB's. Henry himself has strung together 3 straight bad performances in the playoffs. Remember when the Saints had Brees, all those receiving threats AND the amazing Alvin Kamara? Then remember when they got beaten at home again and again in the playoffs? If you need convincing then that's on you. The facts are right there for you. BTW that Jonathan Taylor guy...........he missed the playoffs entirely despite playing behind the highest draft pedigreed OL in NFL history........a #1 overall a #6 overall, another mid-first rounder and a mid-second rounder. Bottom line is.........giving the ball to a RB in the NFL is a necessary evil.........you can't replicate the impact of a well passed football by running the football........great production from a RB is a lot less than average production from the pass game.......when each touch gets more important in the playoffs that disparity is often magnified. Sorry to say but it's not some kind of f*cking cheat code when you have what is considered an "elite" RB.

Beach chairs are back! (Kromer hired as OL Coach)
BADOLBILZ replied to MWK's topic in The Stadium Wall
True on Roman. He's great at run game design. But it certainly wasn't about having a certain RB in his prime. The backup RB's actually produced quite a bit more with the ball in their hands..........one lead the league in ypc and 3rd down conversions and they combined for 18 TD's versus McCoy's 16. They were simply a machine running the football........as have been the Ravens since Roman took over as OC. -
You know I watch a ton of NFL football. I know who that miscreant Joe Mixon is and I know that he is NOT "three times the player" that Singletary is. That is ridiculous hyperbole thrown out there to try to pad an argument that really has little merit. The same arguments were made last year for Leonard Fournette. Like I said, those two jokers are peas in a pod as players. Are they marginally more talented than Singletary........probably.........but who cares. They are running backs. Block it up. There is always another one waiting in the wings. As superman Derrick Henry found out when he was out performed by practice squader D'Onta Foreman in his absence this season.
-
Oh you're very wrong. HC and GM's don't value RB play.........that is evidenced by the pay scale and where they are drafted. Those facts are not irrelevant, though it would be convenient for your argument to say so. What teams value is utilizing the run to enhance the success of their passing game. You can do that with a good OL and adequate RB play. It's been proven over and over for a couple decades now.
-
Like I said..........Khalil Mack was under contract for a lower cap hit than that.........so yeah, that little bit of cap space can help you acquire a great player. And not just at pass rusher.........that can help you ink a stud CB or WR........positions that actually change games in the NFL. And remember...........Addison was coming off of a 10 sack season in Carolina when Beane gave him that contract.............Barkley was dogsh*t last year..........they couldn't be coming from more different positions of performance. Pass rushers........and most other positions........are more impactful than RB's.............it's a passing league. The proof is in the contracts. People get confused when they see all the yards RB's accumulate and all of the touches they can get............they think that means they are dominating the action. In reality an average of 4 yards every time you hand the ball off to a RB is a BIG sacrifice when you have a QB who can average 7-8 yards every time they THROW the ball. And even an elite receiving RB only averages around 8-9 yards per reception compared to an average starting WR getting 11-12 yards. That's why those RB yards/touches aren't really game changers in the NFL.

I'm not sure they could have gotten a second for him last offseason. Drafting a MLB in round 2 is a lot like drafting a RB that early though. I want my all star personnel department to find that guy for less.
