  1. Making the offense better at what Josh Allen does from the pocket..........that should be the focus.........and Beane seems to know that based on his comments about OL being priority #1. In theory, 12 personnel would be an extension of improving the OL while, with a player like Gronk, still being able to spread the field in the passing game. If they can get better push in the run game, that can only help the play action game, which Allen is among the best in the league at executing. Because of the finish of the season, fans forget that the struggles at the LOS lead to a huge drop in average pass attempt production for Allen.........from 7.9 in 2020 to 6.8 in 2021..........which isn't something we should have ever seen again after his breakout 2020. But 125+ combined pressures and sacks will do that. Running Allen 10 times per game to cover up for blocking issues worked well down the stretch but isn't a 20 game season solution.
  2. Should be in the "do you bitcoin?" thread OTW.
  3. Would be interesting to know how many people would be pro adding Kareem Hunt but against adding Gronk. Some of the rationale used on this board...........
  4. These takes are hilarious. Please quit your Bills fandom if a local kid who has gone on to become the greatest football player ever produced by the area..........a HOF'er and legit "best of all time at his position" discussion player...........comes back to play for the Bills.
  5. Why is this a "newsflash"? Gronk put up 802 yards at 14.6 yards per reception and 6 TD in 2021..........those are huge numbers would be all-time kinda' numbers for a Bills TE. If they release Cole Beasley, who put up a punchless 692 yards on 8.5 ypr and 1 TD..............they save $6.1M. Roll a couple million of Gronk's $7M into a voidable 2023(like Sanders and Addison this year) and it's a net savings on this years cap to get a player who gives you MUCH more explosiveness in the passing game and an elite blocker in the run game..........and TE is a position where they have ZERO depth.
  6. Good point. That was the case with John Brown. Wiffed the first attempt.........got him the next year.
  7. I left him out because I think Rex really thought he was just going to be able to use Ragnuts to stuff the run............nobody in their right mind ever thought he could be anything but a liability if forced into coverage responsibilities, did they? What a draft that was. Off-the-bus starters!
  8. This is what the employees of the Bills whose responsibilities are field/facility management have been told. Apparently they almost put a heating system underneath the turf in the last renovation.
  9. This is a problem with drafting 9 defensive players and a replacement QB with their last 10 #1 picks.............they have done well to add Davante Adams and Aaron Jones to their roster at much lower draft slots than the players they've turned out to be...............but the drop-off to the rest of their playmakers is huge because they've not invested in that side of the ball. We've seen over and over again that you can transform a bad defense in free agency..........but it's hard to maintain a good defense for a long period of time regardless of the investment. So why use your franchise building blocks all on defense? When you have a franchise QB..........you CAN build long term success on that side of the ball. Packers tried to cheat the system. Almost worked the past couple of seasons, but maybe if they had been QB-centric in his prime they wouldn't be at odds with Rodgers now............and they'd have a deep enough offense that they could move on from Adams. Bills need to take note of how Green Bay has messed up being blessed with the best QB in the conference for the past decade.
  10. I think my $4.1M number is accurate but regardless, they can "declare" him a June 1 cut when they release him in March..........which they would want to do to eradicate his roster and workout bonuses. They can't technically use the portion of cap space that is designated "June 1" funds until June 1............but that matters little. They can borrow cap space to make additions in 2021 against next year/future years with a re-structure of a current contract.........say Tre White just for example............and then roll the June 1 savings from Lotulelei into 2022 if they don't need it. It's just accounting at that point. What isn't accounting is the actual, currently unguaranteed dollars they would have to pay Lotulelei to play in 2021.........which is about $4M...........a lot for a presumed backup DT1T with his recent history.
  11. I'd say that they should watch Logan Wilson defend the middle of the field for Cinci against Mahomes and KC in the AFCCG. Edmunds has around a 110 combined passer rating against the past two years...........he's not some secret force against the pass.
  12. Cutting him this offseason before his bonuses kicks in saves $4.1M in cap space over the next 2 seasons...........which is all room that they can use to add talent this year with creative accounting. Also saves ownership nearly $4M in real money that they wouldn't have to pay Lotulelei. It's not as simple as only being able to save $1.5M.............it's overall cap space and actual dollars that are both around $4M.
  13. For everyone who thinks it would be hard to replace him.......just a reminder that Preston Brown lead the NFL in tackles playing MLB in this defense in 2017.
  14. I asked the union guy about this.........good news, he says 1 year!
  15. Not bad for a QB of a team that hasn't spent a first round pick on an offensive player to help him in a decade. I mean, unless you count the guy they drafted to replace him. The Packers made their own mess with Rodgers.........shouldn't have scrimped when he was in his prime..........hopefully the Bills learn that lesson with Josh Allen.
  16. Sounds fair..........he's only won the MVP two years running.
  17. Yes, when push came to shove and the division and a playoff berth were suddenly on the line Josh Allen started running the ball a lot more the run game improved. He actually had 15 rushes in the late season game against Atlanta. 200+ rushes for Josh Allen doesn't make for a good plan for the 2022 season though. Need to be able to run the ball better with the RB's without having to expose Allen to all of those hits. Good place for ya'.........well stated.
  18. You misread...........I said "get more from their running game" not "run the ball more". The Bills RB's averaged only 4.3 yards per carry in 2021........which was very close to league average. Hopefully a return of Aaron Kromer and Gronk/Knox 12 personnel sets could allow the Bills to get back to averaging closer to that 5+ yards per carry they averaged when Kromer was last in Buffalo. In turn, the better running game and Gronk's propensity for big gains in the passing game could help Allen get his yards per attempt passing back up near 8. Last season that figure was a lowly 6.8.........which tells the story of an offense that needed the QB to tuck the ball and run for a ton of yardage to keep drives going. Time to be better around Josh Allen and put less hard mileage on him in the process.
  19. They need another TE...........but they also have the controversial Cole Beasley situation to deal with..............if the Bills go to more 12 personnel they could replace Beasley with Gronk for about the same cap hit..............and be a more physical team and get more from their run game while replacing Beasley's anemic 2021 8.5 ypr with Gronk's 14.6 ypr.
  20. Should have a poll: Would you rather win a Super Bowl next season with Gronk on the team or never have Gronk on the Bills and not win a Super Bowl for the next 10 years? Because time flies while you are waiting for the perfect additions..........ask Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay fans how easy it's been since Rodgers won the one that he did.
  21. That is a hilariously bad take. The Rams have been trading draft picks for veteran stars/other-teams-high-picks since McVay arrived. Sammy Watkins.......Marcus Peters......Aqib Talib.......Brandin Cooks........Dante Fowler.......Jaylen Ramsey.......Austin Corbett.......Matt Stafford........Von Miller.........all acquired by trades for draft picks. That's in addition to big name free agent acquisitions like Whitworth, Woods, Weddle, Floyd, Robinson and Beckham Jr. And who gives a f*ck if you live in LA.........this is all common knowledge to avid NFL fans........stuff that living closer to the stadium provides you no insight into. But it does beg the question.........have you been living under a rock in LA?
  22. Yeah........roster churn and the time to develop players undermines many a plan. The Rams have beaten the performance odds by trading high picks to fill premium positions with proven stars who step right in and produce at a star level. Years ago I had a discussion on here with @Kirby Jackson and we came to a statistical conclusion that you have about a 15% chance of finding a franchise QB when you draft one in round 1. I think that % has since improved.........but that still presumes that you will be in position to select one.......which is less likely if you are a successful team. So the Rams trading away picks for Stafford...........that was a major system beating move...........they not only got him for much lower risk but they also didn't have to waste any time developing him. And when Stafford retires.........they then soon have the financial freedom to sign or acquire another high end talent at the position.........they aren't grappling with a 5th year option or long term extension of a former high pick. The key though is that supply and demand has been in the Rams favor...........other teams are strictly adhering by the traditional model or just dabbling with swapping picks for players.
  23. Yeah I discussed that in an earlier post in the thread............I think the Rams approach has been that they don't view the draft as a place to address needs...........they always figure they can find a pro player to patch a need if necessary. As a team gets a better roster I think most tend to start reaching for positions that make them look more balanced on paper. We've literally seen that with Beane and his compulsion to add a tackle leading to the selection of Cody Ford. I don't think it's a surprise that early in re-builds we often see some great drafts.........like Donahoe's first draft or even the results of the 2017 draft more recently...........because when you need EVERYTHING you end up drafting for quality of player over need. That's when drafting is easy. The skill is doing it when your salary cap gets tight and you are tempted to fill needs with rookies.
