  1. Yes, when push came to shove and the division and a playoff berth were suddenly on the line Josh Allen started running the ball a lot more the run game improved. He actually had 15 rushes in the late season game against Atlanta. 200+ rushes for Josh Allen doesn't make for a good plan for the 2022 season though. Need to be able to run the ball better with the RB's without having to expose Allen to all of those hits. Good place for ya'.........well stated.
  2. You misread...........I said "get more from their running game" not "run the ball more". The Bills RB's averaged only 4.3 yards per carry in 2021........which was very close to league average. Hopefully a return of Aaron Kromer and Gronk/Knox 12 personnel sets could allow the Bills to get back to averaging closer to that 5+ yards per carry they averaged when Kromer was last in Buffalo. In turn, the better running game and Gronk's propensity for big gains in the passing game could help Allen get his yards per attempt passing back up near 8. Last season that figure was a lowly 6.8.........which tells the story of an offense that needed the QB to tuck the ball and run for a ton of yardage to keep drives going. Time to be better around Josh Allen and put less hard mileage on him in the process.
  3. They need another TE...........but they also have the controversial Cole Beasley situation to deal with..............if the Bills go to more 12 personnel they could replace Beasley with Gronk for about the same cap hit..............and be a more physical team and get more from their run game while replacing Beasley's anemic 2021 8.5 ypr with Gronk's 14.6 ypr.
  4. Should have a poll: Would you rather win a Super Bowl next season with Gronk on the team or never have Gronk on the Bills and not win a Super Bowl for the next 10 years? Because time flies while you are waiting for the perfect additions..........ask Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay fans how easy it's been since Rodgers won the one that he did.
  5. That is a hilariously bad take. The Rams have been trading draft picks for veteran stars/other-teams-high-picks since McVay arrived. Sammy Watkins.......Marcus Peters......Aqib Talib.......Brandin Cooks........Dante Fowler.......Jaylen Ramsey.......Austin Corbett.......Matt Stafford........Von Miller.........all acquired by trades for draft picks. That's in addition to big name free agent acquisitions like Whitworth, Woods, Weddle, Floyd, Robinson and Beckham Jr. And who gives a f*ck if you live in LA.........this is all common knowledge to avid NFL fans........stuff that living closer to the stadium provides you no insight into. But it does beg the question.........have you been living under a rock in LA?
  6. Yeah........roster churn and the time to develop players undermines many a plan. The Rams have beaten the performance odds by trading high picks to fill premium positions with proven stars who step right in and produce at a star level. Years ago I had a discussion on here with @Kirby Jackson and we came to a statistical conclusion that you have about a 15% chance of finding a franchise QB when you draft one in round 1. I think that % has since improved.........but that still presumes that you will be in position to select one.......which is less likely if you are a successful team. So the Rams trading away picks for Stafford...........that was a major system beating move...........they not only got him for much lower risk but they also didn't have to waste any time developing him. And when Stafford retires.........they then soon have the financial freedom to sign or acquire another high end talent at the position.........they aren't grappling with a 5th year option or long term extension of a former high pick. The key though is that supply and demand has been in the Rams favor...........other teams are strictly adhering by the traditional model or just dabbling with swapping picks for players.
  7. Yeah I discussed that in an earlier post in the thread............I think the Rams approach has been that they don't view the draft as a place to address needs...........they always figure they can find a pro player to patch a need if necessary. As a team gets a better roster I think most tend to start reaching for positions that make them look more balanced on paper. We've literally seen that with Beane and his compulsion to add a tackle leading to the selection of Cody Ford. I don't think it's a surprise that early in re-builds we often see some great drafts.........like Donahoe's first draft or even the results of the 2017 draft more recently...........because when you need EVERYTHING you end up drafting for quality of player over need. That's when drafting is easy. The skill is doing it when your salary cap gets tight and you are tempted to fill needs with rookies.
  8. It wouldn't be a back up situation.........they'd probably alternate in 11 and the Bills would run a lot more 12. Gronk is the much better player still..........he put up over 800 yards with like 15 yards per reception...........he was still a top 5 TE in the NFL in 2021. Knox is more of a top 20 kinda' TE. Maybe Knox has room to grow still but the only time in his career when Gronk's per game numbers were as low as 2021 Dawson Knox as a receiver was when Gronk was a rookie..........and even then he was a little better than peak Dawson Knox. And of course Gronk has always been a top blocker, which Knox improved at this year but is still not the force that Gronk is at it.
  9. Yep bring in Jarvis Landry when the Browns release him too. 😉 The Bills don't even have a single player under contract for 2022 that was with the Bills when the fragile-stated Aaron Williams got legally blocked into retirement by Jarvis Landry. Fans generally lack the self-awareness to know that they grossly over-react to player interactions on the field.............fans are like the parent who watches their married son or daughter argue with their spouse......and then can never forgive the kid-in-law even after their own child has long forgotten about it. Hanging on to ***** long after the parties involved actually do is just stupid.
  10. The Chiefs had 2 extra possessions. Bills lost coin flip.......received the ball to start game and Chiefs finished the half with the football(missed FG). Even Chiefs got second half kickoff and finished with ball. +1 Chiefs Then the OT possession. +1 Chiefs
  11. Thing is.........we've been hearing how they weren't going to be able to sustain what they are doing since 2017..........and 5 years later they win the SB.........and figure to be a favorite in a conference that lost Brady and maybe Rodgers in 2022. 6 years of being in contention in the NFL when you didn't draft your own stud QB.............that's a LONG time in the NFL. And less draft picks means more opportunities for free agents or low cost "culture change" trades to join a Rams team where their skillset can be better used............while other teams are taking their lumps developing picks with their fingers crossed that they get 1-2 high production years out of them before they have to pay or let them walk. If 6 other teams were taking the Rams approach..........I'd be inclined to say that supply wouldn't meet demand.........but that has not been the case........and the Rams have taken advantage of a market inefficiency to this point.
  12. I just don't believe that it's a given that the Rams will "be losers pretty quickly" just because they traded away a bunch of draft picks. I have a fairly structured idea of how I would use first round picks so you don't waste them when exercised................but in the big picture they are the most overrated way of acquiring talent if the intention is anything other than to select a QB. Half of them don't play well enough to earn the 5th year extension and another 1/4 are at least somewhat disappointing. The Rams have excelled at acquiring and getting more out of other teams early round picks...........see Leonard Floyd and A'Shawn Robinson as recent examples on the DL alone.........that's good scouting and coaching.........so I would expect that trend to continue.
  13. 10 years ago is a better starting point to describe the current Sabres to the Bills. The current Sabres are about where the 2013 Bills were...........the Buddy Nix era..........it will take some more losing and coaching and GM changes.........another iteration of a tear down in 3-4 years.........and nobody on the current roster will probably be with the team when they get into cup contention again in 2030. If everything goes right this time, that is. 😉
  14. Rousseau lead the NFL in run stops with 32........which was almost as many tackles as Oweh totaled for the season. Oweh had a solid rookie season but overall, Rousseau was better.
  15. Not sure either of these things are true. Remember..........when the 2017 Bills made the playoffs the only 1st rounder they had on the active roster in Jacksonville was Tre White........that seasons first round pick. The Rams aren't buried under a mountain of cap debt either..........they are currently only about $10M worse off than the Bills. If they make smart decisions in free agency and trades and re-structures............and draft well with what picks they have(and they've done that pretty well so far)...........and take advantage of their lack of draft picks and geographic location to score assets in undrafted free agency...........there is no reason they can't remain a contender and transition into another competitive team without ever being a bottom 10 team in the next 5-6 years. And 5 years is really about as far out as you can possibly project any team success that doesn't include a young franchise QB.
  16. I so suspect they will get a Clowney or Za'Darius Smith or Danielle Hunter type. They can save $14M by dumping Frank Clark alone.
  17. In fairness...........Preston Brown lead the NFL in tackles in the McFrazier defense. If a journeyman can do THAT.........then maybe it's OK to expect a bit more from Edmunds at the position.
  18. LOL that's a desperate take..............I've never seen him deny his Buffalo heritage and I have seen him talk it up for the past decade.
  19. He's everything prior regimes had hoped Kelvin Sheppard and Preston Brown could be. 😉
  20. Yeah.......nickel and diming the salary cap to create a balanced roster seems to have become the way. The Danielle Hunter thread was just bumped...........and it reminded me that the Chiefs have taken chances acquiring big contract stars like Watkins, Matthieu, Frank Clark, Orlando Brown and Joe Thuney. Then they have trusted their personnel department to fill in the gaps in the draft or bargain free agents. While they surely haven't gotten their money's worth individually.........neither have the Bills, if we are being honest............and the KC approach has gotten them to 4 straight AFC title games and 2 SB's. People will point to the Diggs acquisition to show that the Bills have taken a chance like that...........but it wasn't too much of a risk because Diggs was already under a long term contract. IMO, we need to see less of the over-pays to keep depth or lesser valued positions and it's probably time for Buffalo to take their swing at it.
  21. Maybe they are inching towards having a fringe playoff roster in a couple years.........but it's a bit difficult to envision a cup contender coming out of this in 2024 (as the Bills became a SB contender in 2020). Are the Lightning, Panthers and Leafs suddenly getting much worse while the Sabres somehow vault to the top without star power? Are the Sabres even ahead of the Senators in their re-builds? And that's just their own division. To me, your optimism is like that of a NY Jets fan who thinks that their current trajectory places them atop the AFC East in 2024. No context.
  22. The Bills #2 WR position(Sanders + Davis) combined for 1175 yards. I am assuming Sanders to be out of that equation next season.
  23. But he's been consistent with his inconsistency. Similar yardage numbers and low catch % numbers but with very high ypr numbers. Ankle/foot injuries both seasons that slowed him, but didn't inactivate him, for long stretches. I hope they are able to bring in some legitimate competition for snaps because he hasn't proven that he's ready to be that high volume #2 WR for a full season yet. It might be a critical blow to the offense if their #2 WR position wasn't good for 1,000+ yards overall next season.
  24. 1) Jets game was brutal for sure. He's only a 35 yard per game type receiver thru this point in his career so there are not a lot of high volume games to compare. But the critical drop in Jacksonville (a zero catch game) and the drops at home versus NE in 2020(also a zero catch game) stand out as games where he looked bad. His catch % in general is also quite low.........but I can't say that is not a factor of many deep targets.......as his yards per catch is VERY high. Biggest barrier to showing consistency might be having ankle injuries that slowed him both years. Hopefully he can figure out how to avoid those. 2) He will likely get good money on the market in time........but I don't believe they can extend him until after his 3rd season per the CBA. They still have 2 more years of team control and given the influx of talent at the WR position around the league they might be best off letting him play it out and see how he handles the opportunities that come. The price tags may come down on #2 and #3 WR's relative to the overall salary cap. Up until now he's been the 3rd or 4th most concerning target for the opposition in most of his games.........reps as the #2 and even #1 probably await him in the next two years and then we will see how he produces against tighter coverage.
  25. Edmunds has had some bad games.......but he certainly hasn't been a bad player overall in his career.........it's ignorant to suggest that he has been. He has simply evolved into just maybe the 15th best individual MLB/ILB in a 32 team league.........a middle of the road starter...........which is far from expectation when you use a mid-first round pick on a de-valued, mid-pay position like MLB. Anytime you have a middle of the league starter.........like Edmunds is now and Taylor was then..........you are just treading water at that position.
