I don't think the Bills would draft him even if he made it that far...........which seems inconceivable at this point..........but they could just as easily end up with a JAG cornerback(for instance) at pick #25 who ends up a lesser player than UDFA Levi Wallace was for the team as they are likely to get a franchise cornerstone player. As I've always said..........any first round pick not used on a QB1 prospect is an overrated asset. So much of the game is about who you have at QB.
-
That is irrelevant.........the cap was lowered for all teams. Going into the 2019 offseason they had $90M in cap space. After the 2020 season they already couldn't even afford to address any of the issues they claimed were responsible for their AFCCG loss. He's had a few notable good deals with his own veterans(Dawkins and White).........and the bargain 1 year deal for Daryl Williams............but otherwise he hasn't done well wrt managing the salary cap.
-
Well if it's $2.5M-$3M aav..........then after deducting the league minimum that will reduce their cap space by around $2M. I would expect the Bills will be shopping around actual starting jobs to veteran CB's and DT's for around $5M aav.........crying poor.........so anything over league minimum for Kumerow might be the difference between getting a good veteran at those positions or not.
-
I think we can be upset at the likely notion......due to the timing of the signing............that he got more than league minimum...........which, like with Siran Neal last week, will cut into what they can spend. The reason why Beane has himself in worse cap shape than when he inherited the team..........despite a QB technically still on his rookie deal..........is a high volume of overpays. Be it the Star Lotulelei or Trent Murphy type contracts or the mountain of $6M-$3M aav deals for veteran backups and role players. They need to rely more on their scouting and draft to fill ST and backup roles and use their cap to add a difference maker or two. If they aren't going to be willing to kick cap hits down the road...........as Beane has indicated they won't(we'll see)............then they need to be more frugal with the role players.

Agree........coach K blows.

How about a Free Agent Guard? Titans release Saffold
BADOLBILZ replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
As shallow as the class of FA guards is I'd expect Saffold to get a starting contract on the open market. -
If Kumerow signed for the league minimum then maybe you are right. But Green Bay is in much worse cap shape than Buffalo so they weren't likely to be be in the market for a 5th or 6th receiver for above league minimum.

Punts and kickoffs can't be dispensed with soon enough. All they do is keep non-players.......like Haack, Kumerow, Matakevich and Taiwan...........employed while giving us extra tv timeouts after touchbacks, fair catches and balls rolling to a stop while the clock runs.

Banged Up Bills analyzes Jameson Williams injury and recovery
BADOLBILZ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
The tantalizing part of trading for Metcalf is the very low cap hit in 2022 paired with him being the receiving equivalent of Josh Allen..........Allen combines elite size and arm strength...........Metcalf is elite size and speed. They could end up losing Metcalf to free agency in a year..........but if they draft for need in round 1 they could end up with a Shaq Lawson type JAG with that pick also. There are no guarantees that it would result in a SB for Buffalo........but it wouldn't be unlike KC trading for Orlando Brown last year...........KC might have been emboldened to do that after the paltry return they had gotten from 1st rounder Clyde Edwards Helaire the year before. -
Yeah shocker is

Here’s a couple of moves that make sense to me.
BADOLBILZ replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall
Tipster has somehow managed to defeat @Virgil's "idea plan" thread by only the narrowest possible of margins. C'mon bro's. -
I believe that's right.............but anyone who doesn't know the difference between trading for and "signing" a player isn't somebody who is deeply "in the know".

Bills twitter needs to start talking Mitchell up..........."Don't accept anything less than $20M from Indy this year Mitch!........they were going to pay Carson $30M!"

Banged Up Bills analyzes Jameson Williams injury and recovery
BADOLBILZ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
"According to the Journal of Orthopedic & Sports Physical Therapy, athletes who return to sport prior to nine months following an ACL injury are at a seven-fold greater risk to suffer a future ACL tear." If Williams is there at 25.........he is very likely the most potentially impactful player left on the board based on what the players have actually put on tape.........IMO he was the best player on the field in the Alabama v Georgia games.........which speaks volumes. But if they take him we should be prepared for the possibility that he doesn't play in 2022. Because even when he is ready to play he is a raw talent at the WR position and without 100% of his speed back yet he may not be better than the more refined options they may have at the position. -
Yep and @Thurman#1 or the equivalent would be on here defending the Bills and talking about how well worth the picks Wentz was and that the $30M cap hit was irrelevant.
-
A single first rounder *might*.........but agree that it's not nearly as likely as many fans believe.........it's about a 50/50 proposition that a 1st rounder even plays well enough that the team picks up their 5th year option. And this draft is particularly full of boom or bust or slow developing types in round 1, IMO. Daniel Jeremiah said it best IMO...........the strength of this draft will be the ability to get 2nd round talents in the 4th round. It's the depth of athletes. But a strength is not likely to be getting players who tear it up statistically as rookies. People are freaking out about the numbers that the 3 Georgia DL put up at the combine..........but the 3 of them only combined for 10 sacks in 2021. Expectations for first rounders are always too high but probably going to be even more unreleastic with this class.
-
No Christian Watson either.
-
Houston should take them for MORE.........Denver absolutely FLEECED Seattle for Watson. And the fact that all the teams that seem to be listed as destinations for Watson are in the NFC should only drive up the price.
-
It's tough to not be intrigued by the potential of Watson coming off a combine workout where he looked fast, agile and smooth and even had huge hands, which I think is a plus in Buffalo and with a big armed QB. Just have images in my mind of plenty of linear, very fast types who never evolved into anything but 1 trick ponies or less. On the hoof..........Marquez Valdes-Scantling is almost exactly the same as Christian Watson..........and MVS is nothing but an inconsistent deep threat.
-
Yeah it's not out of the question that he could have a bounce back season and get his career as an early down base DE back on track to the point where he is worth modest pay days again..........it happens........in 2021 former flop CB Rasul Douglas went from veteran extended PS to having a tremendous year for Green Bay that will get him paid. But he should have no value right now..........and maybe he thinks that he can only get his head right by getting back in the Buffalo environment/culture. When he was drafted I said his floor was Courtney Upshaw and his ceiling was Melvin Ingram........an underwhelming range for a first rounder........and he's played much closer to his floor, which is in part due to being a slow twitch athlete but more due to just being hard to motivate and keep focused, IMO. He wants to get back to Buffalo but two hours after every home game he was in the airport with a big bag of Popeye's catching a flight to Charlotte so he could go play Wooderson on campus at Clemson.
-
Shaq is an extended practice squad player at this point...........they'd be foolish to bring him in with any guarantees or for more than the league minimum.
-
No........there isn't any need to run thru the ball carrier there.......the pass is late and behind the RB........an instinctive defender knows they can make a play on the ball there. I know you are one of Edmunds' biggest apologists but he gets so many passes thrown in front of him where the RB is hung out to dry and never has the presence of mind to even punch the ball out while he's tackling a ball carrier who has had all of his momentum stopped by a late throw.......he's just a slow processor in a league where quick minds make the plays on the football in traffic.
-
Yeah but the $39M cap hit for Ryan Tannehill this year.........
-
That clip is the perfect example of what Tremaine lacks..........he would just run straight at Marshawn Lynch on that play as the ball falls to the turf behind him.
-
As I've said..........I would love that Edmunds for Sweat trade......... but Washington loses that cap exchange by over $10M as Sweat is just in year 4 of his deal...........and though Sweat has underwhelmed he is still a high ceiling pass rusher so he's probably worth more than a 2 time Pro Bowl LB who isn't nearly as good on tape as that sounds. Edmunds to Houston for Brandin Cooks is probably more realistic........two expiring contracts, approx same value. But maybe someone out there really values Edmunds' upside more than I think the tape indicates they should.
