I agree........and that's where Phillips went.........and he would have been worth it as an impactful pass rushing DT3T had he reached his potential..........but he wasn't a natural DT1T or Nose........he just looked like he could dominate at the LOS because college OL were ill-prepared to handle his length and upper body strength. We've literally had a couple of these top heavy 340# DT's in Jordan Phillips and Vernon Butler and they have proven to be far from dominant at controlling the LOS but the assumption by some is that Davis is going to be entirely different.

A lot of Bills fans assume the Chiefs are going to mostly stand pat. They could improve tremendously with another stud WR. They have needs to address on defense but if they choose to keep their OL together and add weapons then the Bills adding a 1st round CB or an aging pass rusher might not make any difference for the Bills when matched against the Chiefs. This is why........as a Bills fan.........priority #1 in the offseason is fielding the best offense in the league next season.

2021 All Pro MLB DeVondre Campbell is a free agent and is projected to get just a 2 year deal in the $6M-$9M aav range. Tremaine's cap figure is $12.7M. With Tremaine.......less is A LOT more..........but that's what can happen when you draft an off-ball LB in round 1 and they don't turn into a star player...........5th year options punish you if you don't use your #1 on the actual big money positions. -

It's a great comparison actually. What you are dazed and confused about is thinking that the positions are of equal importance/impact on the success of their respective units. They are not............you aren't going to have a multi-year top 1-2 ranked offensive yardage unit without a dynamic, superstar QB. You don't need a star MLB to field a top ranked yardage defense. -

Things a player CAN'T and DOESN'T do can also be a negative. 2016 Bills offense under Tyrod Taylor thru 15 games(prior to his benching) was 7th in the NFL in scoring.......1st in the NFL in plays over 20 yards(big plays) and 1st in rushing(both for the second consecutive season)..........and had turned the ball over fewer times than any team in the SB era. Statistically the best offense the Bills had fielded since 1991. It wasn't the mistakes with Taylor.........it was the lack of plays he made as a pocket passer. The lack of plays made is the issue with Edmunds...........you can play excellent defense AROUND Edmunds the same way that you could play excellent offense AROUND Taylor...................but if you need him to be a difference maker you are SOL...........and that's not what you draft a guy in the middle of round 1 to be. -

The problem is that it when people use hyperbole like "bust" to describe something much more nuanced it opens up the floor to the chicken heads to start clucking about how everyone hates said player. Some may not forgive that player for only being an average player overall............but the legitimate criticism of Edmunds is just that. He's basically at the level of scrutiny here that has generally been reserved for QB's like Tyrod Taylor and Ryan Fitzpatrick.............who were often over-defended because their apologists were worried about the alternative more than the actual belief that they were much better than their critics said they were. -

BADOLBILZ replied to Richard Noggin's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah you can't be a middle of the league starter at your position and also a "bust". As you implied though...........for a guy who should have been much better this season, after an injury marred 2020...........he ceased to make discernible improvement in any area except tackling(which had simply been compromised by his bad shoulder in 2020). Instead he just put another season of same-ol' on tape and better opponents were able to use that expanded knowledge of his limitations against him. As I said.........my opinion is that Edmunds tumbled from a guy you could easily talk yourself into putting in the top 8 MLB/ILB in the league in 2020 to a guy who is much closer to average now. And I know some of you don't think he's actually as talented as his draft position indicated.............but I see him as a Derrick Henry level athlete for his position.........while not the total all-around package........a guy like Henry was SO GOOD in some areas it made him elite. Edmunds should be an All Pro level LB at this stage the same way that Henry was after that much experience/development. Instead he's already regressed some prior to his actual prime. -

You clicked on it knowing what it was about the Bills MLB and didn't know it was an Edmunds thread..........smh..........even Edmunds has better instincts than you. -

You aren't motivated to find all that stuff because you want to lie to pad your flimsy argument. Which is why you are getting thoroughly disrespected by me here........which you want to call a "hissy fit". At no point EVER did I say that Harrison Phillips wasn't a good tackler in the NFL.............I've always pointed out that he at the very least has played the role of getting off blocks and making tackles........which is part of the job of being a mid-gap defender as opposed to being lined up over the nose. So while he may have not always anchored as well as he did this season......... he has ALWAYS done well to get off blocks and make tackles at both the college and pro level. I don't think I've ever seen anyone else on this board quote his tackling statistics beside me, so you couldn't be more off with that lie. And I haven't consistently criticized Butler...........I even said I understood why Beane took the chance re-working his deal last year because Butler played the DT1T role quite admirably in the last 2/3 of 2020 once he adapted to playing out of position(he's a natural 3T brought in to replace the similarly built Jordan Phillips). Butler didn't play the role well this year but that wasn't the case in 2020. Go back and watch games like SF and Baltimore. So two more lies from you. And I have already pointed out that Oliver+Phillips > KW + Lotulelei.............so that's no excuse for Edmunds regressing as a play maker. You beg to differ apparently but just insist to the contrary without supporting points. Edmunds has just not developed as a processor of the game and teams eventually began taking advantage of the robotic tendencies/responses that he has subsequently put on tape........hence his tumble to an approx 110 combined passer rating against the past two seasons. -

I consistently criticize Harrison Phillips? That's a lie. In 2020 I said both Phillips and Butler played admirably at DT1T. Oliver was also very good. In 2021 Phillips and Oliver were both above average to very good at their jobs. If Edmunds needs ELITE talent at DT to make ANY plays whatsoever then it's a much bigger problem than support in front of him. I accounted for Edmunds best statistical year being 2018 as him not thinking as much..............right from the opening game when he had a strip sack in Baltimore he was better when he didn't know what he didn't know. One of the DUMBEST f*cking notions ever is that Kyle Williams was good in run defense............he was simply a penetrator and pass rusher...........2021 Oliver was a much better all around player than KW was in 2018. Statistically they may look about the same but KW wasn't capable of manning DT1T at f*cking all and was lousy in run defense. And 2021 Harrison Phillips was much better than 2018 Lotulelei. -

No, quite the opposite with most of those guys, lesser traits and more instincts. Though I wouldn't identify Bush, who struggled this season after a season ending injury in 2020.......... or the seriously disappointing Myles Jack as guys who are really perceived as better than Edmunds at this point. Edmunds is a middle of the league starting ILB/MLB...........it's not a premium position so it's a lot like being a middle of the league starting RB............he's been "meh"..........but he has physical talent to be an All Pro. Good comparison would be if Derrick Henry was a middle of the league starting RB in year 4 of his career..............people would surely say "that's it?"..........as are Bills fans and people like Jason LaCanfora who thought he was going to be the best defensive player in football last season. -

No it's definitely not. Fletcher made more plays AND a lot more tackles than Edmunds. There were complaints about him not being undersized and not a great run stuffer...........but not about his instincts or ability to get off blocks and make plays. People think Edmunds has lacked support from his DL...........what Fletcher got when he arrived in Buffalo was much worse. -

BADOLBILZ replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
Fitz and Mack would have to be league min type deals for me. * Maybe* they could handle $2M-$3M for Fitz but not $5M, let alone his $9M figure last year. Berrios isn't as good as 2020 ceiling season Cole Beasley in the slot and may never be...........but he was better in 2021 than the banged up, slowing Beasley. And he lead the NFL in KOR average(30 yards per) and finished second in punt return average (13.4) for players with over 10 punt returns. He's basically a 2-for-1 player........your #1 slot and your elite return man. That said..........that isn't worth the $7.5M deal that Beane gave Beasley. I put Berrios in around $5M and I don't think that will get it done but remember they were paying about $10M aav combined for Beasley and Roberts to fill BOTH positions at a high level in 2019-2020 seasons -

But I thought the Bills DT's were a liability...........so Edmunds couldn't make plays in run defense? The issue with Edmunds is simple...........he plays a position in a system that is designed to put him around the ball A LOT..............and he doesn't make the kind of plays that turn games.........passes defensed, TFL, sacks, QB hits, pressures, FF, FR, INT. The reasons are 1. A lack of in-game instincts or mental acuity.........he generally achieves the minimum result on every play he does make. 2. An inability to get off of blocks...........which turns him into a tumbleweed on screen plays and leads to him being maybe the worst blitzing LB in the entire NFL(no exaggeration.......he went like 140 blitz attempts with 1 pressure in 2019-2020). -

Why has Juwan Howard not been fired and charged with assault?
BADOLBILZ replied to reddogblitz's topic in Off the Wall
Exactly. @reddogblitz makes no sense whatsoever. Gard has a history of being confrontational and out of line.......he initiated a confrontation when someone who has been around the game for 40+ years should know you don't do what he did when he did it. Howard made the mistake of letting him get to him and reacting and is paying a substantial price and owning his actions. Meanwhile Gard isn't owning any of his behavior..........just like in his prior scandals. -
Rams - opening game of season Bills / Cowboys most likely
BADOLBILZ replied to CorkScrewHill's topic in The Stadium Wall
You say all of this as if it's unfair that the most popular teams get to play in primetime. TV revenue is shared..........it didn't benefit the league or the Bills to show the Bills in primetime during the drought and they have only been a SB contending team for last 2 of the 20+ seasons..........it's going to take more winning for the Bills to approach the popularity of all of those teams.........all the teams you listed except for the Chicago Bears have won at least 4 Super Bowls each. -
The 2014 Jordan Phillips vs Clemson video I posted above looks like a Jordan Davis 2021 highlight film. These dudes are remarkably similar..........6'6" and 340.........very tall and play tall. Phillips was also seen as a late first kinda' 3-4 NT prospect.......he just didn't play on a team LOADED with other starting quality NFL players like Davis. And yeah he made plays in college but in the NFL if you don't have leverage you become a liability in run defense. The length and upper body strength that Phillips and Davis use to make plays in college doesn't translate as a double team drawing run-stuffer............Phillips is basically a gap shooting pass rusher in a frame that's become troublesome to keep healthy. People expecting Jordan Davis to be Haloti Ngata or Vita Vea in run defense are probably going to be disappointed.

According to the scouting collective of @MAJBobby and @Over 29 years of fanhood Edmunds is better than Milano. Don't bother sending those job applications to PFF fella's. I've seen A LOT of contrived excuses for players who fail to produce since this board was created..........but the Edmunds one.........is probably the longest of it's sort. "But, but Edmunds has to defend TWO gaps in run defense." Oy vey. Nearly every team is base nickel now. You can make plays in your situation or you cannot.

Get Christian McCaffery to be our #1... slot WR...???
BADOLBILZ replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
James White is another free agent..........he's got some miles on him.......and a season ending hip injury in 2021 doesn't bode well for an older RB.........and he's typically been a below average option to hand the ball off to.........really more of a true "3rd down" back. -

JD McKissic is another shifty McSomething hybrid RB/slot who is a free agent. 120 rec past two seasons...........and better career yards per numbers than McKinnon. PFF has him at 2 years $5M total for estimated deal. -
What is your "Win Now" off-season scenario?

The Bills are definitely in an arms race with KC and Cinci in terms of passing game weapons............and they are losing that race..........but I can't see using TWO firsts on any WR. -
What is your "Win Now" off-season scenario?
BADOLBILZ replied to billsfan89's topic in The Stadium Wall
Well when would they have to make such a decision? Remember.........Metcalf was NOT a first round pick........this is his walk year..........there is no 5th year option. So they either have to extend DK Metcalf in the next 12 months or slap a $23M-$24M franchise tag on him..............when they just signed their #1 receiver to a 4 year $69M deal. The speculation is based in most part on the idea that the team might not want to have $35M-$42M per year tied up in their top 2 WR's.
