  1. I just don't believe that it's a given that the Rams will "be losers pretty quickly" just because they traded away a bunch of draft picks. I have a fairly structured idea of how I would use first round picks so you don't waste them when exercised................but in the big picture they are the most overrated way of acquiring talent if the intention is anything other than to select a QB. Half of them don't play well enough to earn the 5th year extension and another 1/4 are at least somewhat disappointing. The Rams have excelled at acquiring and getting more out of other teams early round picks...........see Leonard Floyd and A'Shawn Robinson as recent examples on the DL alone.........that's good scouting and coaching.........so I would expect that trend to continue.
  2. 10 years ago is a better starting point to describe the current Sabres to the Bills. The current Sabres are about where the 2013 Bills were...........the Buddy Nix era..........it will take some more losing and coaching and GM changes.........another iteration of a tear down in 3-4 years.........and nobody on the current roster will probably be with the team when they get into cup contention again in 2030. If everything goes right this time, that is. 😉
  3. Rousseau lead the NFL in run stops with 32........which was almost as many tackles as Oweh totaled for the season. Oweh had a solid rookie season but overall, Rousseau was better.
  4. Not sure either of these things are true. Remember..........when the 2017 Bills made the playoffs the only 1st rounder they had on the active roster in Jacksonville was Tre White........that seasons first round pick. The Rams aren't buried under a mountain of cap debt either..........they are currently only about $10M worse off than the Bills. If they make smart decisions in free agency and trades and re-structures............and draft well with what picks they have(and they've done that pretty well so far)...........and take advantage of their lack of draft picks and geographic location to score assets in undrafted free agency...........there is no reason they can't remain a contender and transition into another competitive team without ever being a bottom 10 team in the next 5-6 years. And 5 years is really about as far out as you can possibly project any team success that doesn't include a young franchise QB.
  5. I so suspect they will get a Clowney or Za'Darius Smith or Danielle Hunter type. They can save $14M by dumping Frank Clark alone.
  6. In fairness...........Preston Brown lead the NFL in tackles in the McFrazier defense. If a journeyman can do THAT.........then maybe it's OK to expect a bit more from Edmunds at the position.
  7. LOL that's a desperate take..............I've never seen him deny his Buffalo heritage and I have seen him talk it up for the past decade.
  8. He's everything prior regimes had hoped Kelvin Sheppard and Preston Brown could be. 😉
  9. Yeah.......nickel and diming the salary cap to create a balanced roster seems to have become the way. The Danielle Hunter thread was just bumped...........and it reminded me that the Chiefs have taken chances acquiring big contract stars like Watkins, Matthieu, Frank Clark, Orlando Brown and Joe Thuney. Then they have trusted their personnel department to fill in the gaps in the draft or bargain free agents. While they surely haven't gotten their money's worth individually.........neither have the Bills, if we are being honest............and the KC approach has gotten them to 4 straight AFC title games and 2 SB's. People will point to the Diggs acquisition to show that the Bills have taken a chance like that...........but it wasn't too much of a risk because Diggs was already under a long term contract. IMO, we need to see less of the over-pays to keep depth or lesser valued positions and it's probably time for Buffalo to take their swing at it.
  10. Maybe they are inching towards having a fringe playoff roster in a couple years.........but it's a bit difficult to envision a cup contender coming out of this in 2024 (as the Bills became a SB contender in 2020). Are the Lightning, Panthers and Leafs suddenly getting much worse while the Sabres somehow vault to the top without star power? Are the Sabres even ahead of the Senators in their re-builds? And that's just their own division. To me, your optimism is like that of a NY Jets fan who thinks that their current trajectory places them atop the AFC East in 2024. No context.
  11. The Bills #2 WR position(Sanders + Davis) combined for 1175 yards. I am assuming Sanders to be out of that equation next season.
  12. But he's been consistent with his inconsistency. Similar yardage numbers and low catch % numbers but with very high ypr numbers. Ankle/foot injuries both seasons that slowed him, but didn't inactivate him, for long stretches. I hope they are able to bring in some legitimate competition for snaps because he hasn't proven that he's ready to be that high volume #2 WR for a full season yet. It might be a critical blow to the offense if their #2 WR position wasn't good for 1,000+ yards overall next season.
  13. 1) Jets game was brutal for sure. He's only a 35 yard per game type receiver thru this point in his career so there are not a lot of high volume games to compare. But the critical drop in Jacksonville (a zero catch game) and the drops at home versus NE in 2020(also a zero catch game) stand out as games where he looked bad. His catch % in general is also quite low.........but I can't say that is not a factor of many deep targets.......as his yards per catch is VERY high. Biggest barrier to showing consistency might be having ankle injuries that slowed him both years. Hopefully he can figure out how to avoid those. 2) He will likely get good money on the market in time........but I don't believe they can extend him until after his 3rd season per the CBA. They still have 2 more years of team control and given the influx of talent at the WR position around the league they might be best off letting him play it out and see how he handles the opportunities that come. The price tags may come down on #2 and #3 WR's relative to the overall salary cap. Up until now he's been the 3rd or 4th most concerning target for the opposition in most of his games.........reps as the #2 and even #1 probably await him in the next two years and then we will see how he produces against tighter coverage.
  14. Edmunds has had some bad games.......but he certainly hasn't been a bad player overall in his career.........it's ignorant to suggest that he has been. He has simply evolved into just maybe the 15th best individual MLB/ILB in a 32 team league.........a middle of the road starter...........which is far from expectation when you use a mid-first round pick on a de-valued, mid-pay position like MLB. Anytime you have a middle of the league starter.........like Edmunds is now and Taylor was then..........you are just treading water at that position.
  15. I agree........and that's where Phillips went.........and he would have been worth it as an impactful pass rushing DT3T had he reached his potential..........but he wasn't a natural DT1T or Nose........he just looked like he could dominate at the LOS because college OL were ill-prepared to handle his length and upper body strength. We've literally had a couple of these top heavy 340# DT's in Jordan Phillips and Vernon Butler and they have proven to be far from dominant at controlling the LOS but the assumption by some is that Davis is going to be entirely different.
  16. A lot of Bills fans assume the Chiefs are going to mostly stand pat. They could improve tremendously with another stud WR. They have needs to address on defense but if they choose to keep their OL together and add weapons then the Bills adding a 1st round CB or an aging pass rusher might not make any difference for the Bills when matched against the Chiefs. This is why........as a Bills fan.........priority #1 in the offseason is fielding the best offense in the league next season.
  17. 2021 All Pro MLB DeVondre Campbell is a free agent and is projected to get just a 2 year deal in the $6M-$9M aav range. Tremaine's cap figure is $12.7M. With Tremaine.......less is A LOT more..........but that's what can happen when you draft an off-ball LB in round 1 and they don't turn into a star player...........5th year options punish you if you don't use your #1 on the actual big money positions.
  18. It's a great comparison actually. What you are dazed and confused about is thinking that the positions are of equal importance/impact on the success of their respective units. They are not............you aren't going to have a multi-year top 1-2 ranked offensive yardage unit without a dynamic, superstar QB. You don't need a star MLB to field a top ranked yardage defense.
  19. He has rehabilitated his image in Cleveland. He now has a broad ranging annual "charity event" which includes giving women free tramp-stamp tattoos.
  20. Things a player CAN'T and DOESN'T do can also be a negative. 2016 Bills offense under Tyrod Taylor thru 15 games(prior to his benching) was 7th in the NFL in scoring.......1st in the NFL in plays over 20 yards(big plays) and 1st in rushing(both for the second consecutive season)..........and had turned the ball over fewer times than any team in the SB era. Statistically the best offense the Bills had fielded since 1991. It wasn't the mistakes with Taylor.........it was the lack of plays he made as a pocket passer. The lack of plays made is the issue with Edmunds...........you can play excellent defense AROUND Edmunds the same way that you could play excellent offense AROUND Taylor...................but if you need him to be a difference maker you are SOL...........and that's not what you draft a guy in the middle of round 1 to be.
  21. The problem is that it when people use hyperbole like "bust" to describe something much more nuanced it opens up the floor to the chicken heads to start clucking about how everyone hates said player. Some may not forgive that player for only being an average player overall............but the legitimate criticism of Edmunds is just that. He's basically at the level of scrutiny here that has generally been reserved for QB's like Tyrod Taylor and Ryan Fitzpatrick.............who were often over-defended because their apologists were worried about the alternative more than the actual belief that they were much better than their critics said they were.
  22. Yeah you can't be a middle of the league starter at your position and also a "bust". As you implied though...........for a guy who should have been much better this season, after an injury marred 2020...........he ceased to make discernible improvement in any area except tackling(which had simply been compromised by his bad shoulder in 2020). Instead he just put another season of same-ol' on tape and better opponents were able to use that expanded knowledge of his limitations against him. As I said.........my opinion is that Edmunds tumbled from a guy you could easily talk yourself into putting in the top 8 MLB/ILB in the league in 2020 to a guy who is much closer to average now. And I know some of you don't think he's actually as talented as his draft position indicated.............but I see him as a Derrick Henry level athlete for his position.........while not the total all-around package........a guy like Henry was SO GOOD in some areas it made him elite. Edmunds should be an All Pro level LB at this stage the same way that Henry was after that much experience/development. Instead he's already regressed some prior to his actual prime.
  23. You clicked on it knowing what it was about the Bills MLB and didn't know it was an Edmunds thread..........smh..........even Edmunds has better instincts than you.
  24. You aren't motivated to find all that stuff because you want to lie to pad your flimsy argument. Which is why you are getting thoroughly disrespected by me here........which you want to call a "hissy fit". At no point EVER did I say that Harrison Phillips wasn't a good tackler in the NFL.............I've always pointed out that he at the very least has played the role of getting off blocks and making tackles........which is part of the job of being a mid-gap defender as opposed to being lined up over the nose. So while he may have not always anchored as well as he did this season......... he has ALWAYS done well to get off blocks and make tackles at both the college and pro level. I don't think I've ever seen anyone else on this board quote his tackling statistics beside me, so you couldn't be more off with that lie. And I haven't consistently criticized Butler...........I even said I understood why Beane took the chance re-working his deal last year because Butler played the DT1T role quite admirably in the last 2/3 of 2020 once he adapted to playing out of position(he's a natural 3T brought in to replace the similarly built Jordan Phillips). Butler didn't play the role well this year but that wasn't the case in 2020. Go back and watch games like SF and Baltimore. So two more lies from you. And I have already pointed out that Oliver+Phillips > KW + Lotulelei.............so that's no excuse for Edmunds regressing as a play maker. You beg to differ apparently but just insist to the contrary without supporting points. Edmunds has just not developed as a processor of the game and teams eventually began taking advantage of the robotic tendencies/responses that he has subsequently put on tape........hence his tumble to an approx 110 combined passer rating against the past two seasons.
  25. I consistently criticize Harrison Phillips? That's a lie. In 2020 I said both Phillips and Butler played admirably at DT1T. Oliver was also very good. In 2021 Phillips and Oliver were both above average to very good at their jobs. If Edmunds needs ELITE talent at DT to make ANY plays whatsoever then it's a much bigger problem than support in front of him. I accounted for Edmunds best statistical year being 2018 as him not thinking as much..............right from the opening game when he had a strip sack in Baltimore he was better when he didn't know what he didn't know. One of the DUMBEST f*cking notions ever is that Kyle Williams was good in run defense............he was simply a penetrator and pass rusher...........2021 Oliver was a much better all around player than KW was in 2018. Statistically they may look about the same but KW wasn't capable of manning DT1T at f*cking all and was lousy in run defense. And 2021 Harrison Phillips was much better than 2018 Lotulelei.
