  1. well, to be fair, SI had him as the #1 QB prior to the Championship game: http://www.si.com/2017-nfl-draft-position-rankings I don't agree with that ranking, but people that wan't him are not nuts. I like you wouldn't go trading for him. (perhaps pretend to trade for him, or if he is there at 10, entertain offers from other teams for him!)
  2. this is a good point. But, he did put the ball where his talented WR's could make the catches against very very good DB's. At any rate, I would not trade up for him. But if he is there at 10 he'd be hard to pass-up. Although like some other posters it may be better to grab Williams, Robinson, etc. and get Mahomes later in the draft. that's not a terrible idea. We could even plug in a guy like Hoyer for this season. With the right tools you could be talking Playoffs. Then trade for the "franchise" guy next year.
  3. Richard or Toub are my top 2 guys. I'd take Butler over McDermott. Basically, I'll take Whaley's opinion over Pegs at this point. Pegs is awesome, don't get me wrong, but Whaley knows more about the NFL, coaches, etc. Butler would be my 3rd or 4th choice.
  4. If he is taken higher by a QB needy team like the Browns, etc., then someone very good will fall to us. Question is do we try to pay a kings ransom for Watson (unless he is there at 10, then we get him), or keep TT and take a fantastic player at 10 (Cam Robinson, Williams, etc.). I'd rather pay a ransom with next years group of QB's, IMO. But I can see either view.
  5. I was a bit of a Watson skeptic. But man, does he shine when the game is on the line. Two huge drives in the 4th after being beaten around all night. And I love Boulware also. Guy is smart, communicates to the D well, and has a passion for the game. Should also be available in Rd. 4 or something like that.
  6. that is a fantastic point. Here is an article on Haley. And Starkey (the author) is generally pretty tough on guys: http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/joe-starkey/2017/01/06/joe-starkey-todd-haley-rumors-nfl-head-coach-pittsburgh-steelers-nfl-playoffs/stories/201701060100
  7. we haven't hired anyone from there in a while. Butler could be a good HC hire. attention to detail is fantastic for a HC. Sounds like he could be the type of guy that lets the OC and DC's do their thing, yet demands accountability from them and the players.
  8. totally agree. It's what the offseason is for. !! He def has a connection to Butler. I believe Butler was the LB coach when Whaley was there. Not sure if Haley and Whaley (kind of rimes if you say it out loud) were in Pgh at the same time.
  9. Butler wouldn't be bad at all. Good under the radar hire. Steelers D has improved vastly over the year with a lot of young players. Haley is kind of nuts. Not sure we need more crazy.
  10. Lawson played decently this year. Sometimes it takes a guy (who was playing out of position and in Rex's terrible defense) a year to "get it." I have high hopes that with a good off season and a move back to 4-3 that he will be dominant.
  11. From what I've read about him, he seems like a good candidate. I like the fast, aggressive defensive style Seattle uses.
  12. of course it would, that's what it is in every city without a playoff win. We don't have one since 1995, which itself is pretty pathetic (3rd worst in NFL). The idea that you need to "suck badly" to get better really does not apply to perrenial playoff teams. Look at the Steelers D today. They make the playoffs almost every year. Bud Dupree (2nd year guy); Truitt; and Hargrave all looked great. You can find quality starting talent anywhere in the first round. Having a QB that can get you into the playoffs though is another issue.
  13. the Steelers destroyed KC earlier in the year. Nothing is guaranteed. Anything can happen once you get in. Sure, you can be like the Bengals and not win a post-season game since 1990, but you have to have a ticket to the game (the Playoffs) to have a chance to win.
  14. I'm wondering this also. I thought you could not block a promotional interview? very odd.
  15. I'd take Lynn over Goodwin. The current players like him, he knows the team, and the Bills offense was better than Arizona's last year. There is also the issue of what Goodwin's role was in AZ (was Arien's running the offense). Also, Goodwin has been surrounded by top-level QB play for most of his carrier. How will he handle the drop-off? That said, Goodwin could answer a lot of these questions during the interview. I also don't see Lynn staying as OC after being the interim HC and being passed over for the HC job. He likely goes elsewhere. I still want Toub as HC. My ideal HC has knowledge of all 3 facets of the game, which Toub has, and would let the OC and DC control their units.
  16. If Lynn can get some decent coordinators this could be a good hire. I generally dislike the idea of a HC/coordinator. Who would be the OC next year? Kromer? Steelers RB coach? Who is the DC? Bradley, Pepper Johnson?
  17. I love it. The media loves to blast people who don't give them stories.
  18. Doug gives "partial zip." Need to give "total zip." It would be nice if the media were more fixated on questions like: "what qualities do you want in the next coach," "who are you consulting, if anyone, in your search." "what positions need to be solidified the most in FA and the draft." Likely to get evasive answers for competitive reaosns, but sometimes get something good.
  19. That would be my guess. But I'd like to find out if the Bills even attempted to interview them. If they got turned down, that is a VERY bad sign. Also, why are we not interviewing Coughlin?!? At least he has 2 SB rings and could bring coordinators, as well as teach the Pegula's how to run an NFL team.
  20. who cares about Lynn. Why are we the only teams not interviewing Shanahanan and Toub???!!!
  21. i agree with that assessment. TT is good. Not a "franchise" QB...but how many of those are there really. Is Eli really a "franschise" QB? He has two rings, but I wouldn't call him one.
