  1. Because we made the playoffs, I don't think we should do it, as the pick cost has become too much. With the amount of holes we have, we need to hang on to those top picks, and make them count. If someone drops that they like, then go get them, but not at the expense of too many picks. We've got 8 picks, iirc, and nothing lower than a 5th rounder. It's not inconcievable, that all of those picks could make the roster, and provide a huge boost of talent. Get that extra talent in here, and go all in on a QB next year, assuming we've found a vet in FA.
  2. I beg to differ, in that I think they do know they want to move on from him, but aren't going to commit to doing so without sure knowledge of an alternative.
  3. Novelty value, in that we've not seen them much like this. Not wishing to be overly critical, but while there are some things to like about how they will talk to everyone when evaluating, it's pretty much a typically non-committed PC, just with a few slightly different buzz words. Oh - and I did watch it all.
  4. So much depends on who might be available, and there's a lot of shaking of the tree to be done yet, as to where them apples are falling. I really can't see Tyrod being here next season, unless all the other options are taken away. And then it's just until we get a drafted QB ready. Even at $18 million, he's not too expensive under those circumstances. For all his other faults, the biggest knock you can make on Tyrod, is his inability to win a game for you, from a FG or TD behind. I think in his career here, he's done it twice, and been unable to do it, in the region of about 10 times. That simply isn't good enough, irrespective of any other stat people might wish to quote. Fcol, I think EJ managed it twice.
  5. This can of worms was always going to open up, once the season finished. Pretty much was inevitable, the moment they shipped Dareus out. It was likely to be an 'issue' (DT), even if they hadn't done that, due to the impending retirement of Kyle - this year, next - it's coming up fast. Simply put, if Kyle Williams retires now, we don't have a starting calibre DT on the roster - and that is paying no mind to the bleacher report 'rankings', just the evidence of your eyes. If Kyle retires, DT becomes our biggest need, over and above QB.
  6. The awesome Shady aside, we are, were, and for the most part of the season, have been, sadly lacking on offense. For sure, we've had a bunch of injuries, especially at the WR position, ironically, considering that was a 'knock' on a guy we shipped out. Yet the group simply hasn't performed well, regardless. Now I like the Benjamin pickup, finally a WR with some serious size. But he ends up banged up too. Thompson has made a few plays, but as pointed out by Baddie earlier, he hasn't always helped his QB, either by really stretching out/diving, or by coming back, to make catches. I think there we get to see the difference between your 'budget' WR and the 3 star guys everyone else seems to have. Clay is a bit of an enigma. He has days where he does everything right, and others where he does things half right, and makes a right pig's ear of some other stuff. He can be a pretty good player, but imho, makes too many unforced errors, to ever be much more than that. I wonder if his dodgy knee, that prevents him from practising so much, isn't contributing to those mistakes, through not getting enough reps. Taylor simply leaves too many plays on the field. Now, a lot of people have said that, for quite some time, yet with Romo commentating on some Bills games recently, just about nobody has had to look very hard to see where the football could have gone, as it's been pointed out very quickly. Yesterday, whenever he rolled out, it looked like he might make a play, but any time he stayed in the pocket, he was dead as a dodo. The Jags did a pretty good job of getting something on him, to slow him enough for a second defender to take him down. Ultimately, Taylor does do a few things quite well, but he simply doesn't do enough things well, to be a viable starter. The game yesterday, was a darn good, old school, defensive battle. Both QBs helped that be the case though, as neither of them were, or are, very good. From the defensive side of things, the most annoying aspect, for me, was Bortles rushing. Mainly because he's done it to us before, at Wembley, the other year. For all the coaches say they watch miles of tape, I sometimes wonder if they watch either enough, or the right stuff. Aside from not managing to get any turnovers, that's about all I'd criticise them for - and I think that's more on the coaches, tbh. Defensively, that was as committed a performance as you could wish to see. Looking forward, well, we need to move on from Taylor. Even with better players around him, I think his ceiling has been reached, as far as winning and getting to the playoffs, has gone. Needs, as usual, we have a bunch of them. QB, obviously, DT - even if Kyle sticks around for another go at it. CB - depth is an issue. LB - I'd keep Brown, he's far more solid than many would give him credit for, but we need more speed there. O-Line. Dawkins has been a pleasant surprise, but it still needs more talent, and health. I wonder if Glenn might be moved to RT, and leave Dawkins at LT. If we are going to keep Glenn, it's definitely something worth considering, imho. Even if we get a passing QB, I still think we can improve our WR group, as I've been pretty underwhelmed by them as a group. While I like Benjamin, I've not seen anywhere near the sort of commitment Woods used to show, when going after the football. Tbh, I don't think we have the necessary draft capital to move up high enough to get whichever top prospect at QB we like. Getting to the playoffs has hit the values of our picks quite a bit. We do have quite a few, in good spots, to do a lot of good for the overall roster however, and that's the way I'd like to see things go. Find a vet QB, and use the picks we have on the roster We can always give up the farm next year for a drafted QB, when we have sorted out the roster with the talent McDermott needs for it.
  7. I think Brown has got better as the season has gone on. He might be lacking some speed, but he's a solid enough guy imho. We need some better depth anyway. Gaines should be brought back, but at not too much money, as he's got injury concerns. Makes a difference when he's playing, but seems to get nicked up a lot. I've been very underwhelmed by Matthews, but could see him retained if we get a new QB. I think someone offers too much to him to stay though, tbh. Henderson I'd like to keep, but I don't know if he'd get a decent offer in FA or not. There's talent there, for all of his difficulties. Kyle Williams would be a no brainer, but not at the same money. Johnson is okay, and would be good depth, if we add another CB in the draft (and re-sign Gaines), but he also would have to be relatively cheap.
  8. You might think it's overpaying, that doesn't mean it might not be necessary. For all there appear to be a lot of 'options' available, there are also a lot of teams similarly interested. Smith might not be so young any more, but he is a 'proven' commodity. Any team that wants a game manager QB, is going to be seriously interested in him. While people are talking about what we might have done with Smith as our QB, think what the Jags might have done, as a good example. There will be decent demand for Smith, and a 3rd and 5th might not actually be enough to get the job done.
  9. Terrific performances from both Defenses, aided and abetted by awful QB play, from both teams. Bills couldn't take their big opportunity in the first half, and the Jags took theirs in the second. We didn't get turnovers, and the Jags did. Small margins, but when we weren't playing with a lead, we never looked like being able to score in a hurry.
  10. #7 was unexpected yet hilarious. Thanks for finding that article.
  11. I wanted us to keep Woods, badly. Big heart, plays and practises hard, while often playing hurt and with no complaints. A bit 'old school' maybe, but all the signs of a proper football player. While 'only' a #2 WR, you would have him on the field every down for his blocking downfield as well. No idea really what sort of deal Watkins might get tbh, apart from the fact it won't be the alleged $14million per, he was wanting from the Bills. I don't think the Rams will just wave goodbye to him, however, as I think they wanted him for both the future and the present. I'd assume they would have known what his likely contract demands would be, so were willing to get close to that sort of money - at least when they traded for him. Their biggest problem will be in assessing if they believe he can get back to his 1st and 2nd year numbers, when he did actually realize a fair amount of his 'potential'. Statistically, he's never averaged less than 15 ypc, so in that respect, he's the same player, but his actual catches have fallen by half over a full season for the Rams, as opposed to a full season with the Bills. If the Rams think that's due to a lack of a TC with them, then they might still pony up.
  12. That teams draft BPA That the NFL attempts to create 'parity'
  13. Look at NFL.com for Gamepass. Probably quite cheap just for this weekend. That would be a live feed, so you will need a decent connection, but the quality will be as good as you can get. It would seem as though the game is being shown on TVNZ Duke, whatever that is, and might be free to air, and free to watch as a live feed.
  14. I think it makes a good difference. One thing not mentioned, in respect of any potential FA QBs, is that the monkey of no playoffs, is off their back to begin with, which means a significant amount of pressure has been relieved. As to other players, well, the Bills are showing up as a decent enough team over the last few years, and they may be the guy(s) who can make enough of a difference. A new HC who has broken whatever 'curse' there might have been, and in his first season. As others have said, I think it gets the Bills into a lot more conversations, (with FAs) and possibly without having to dig as deep into their pockets to persuade guys to come.
  15. The problem with Shady, is that he's pretty much an automatic 'cutter'. Going to be very dificult to get him to change style, even just for the one game.
  16. Since making the playoffs, the notion we have the draft capital to trade up for one of, or the best, prospect, simply doesn't scan so well. Not only will our 2 first round picks be of lesser value than anticipated, the same applies to the other picks we have accumulated. Iirc, just about every team we traded with, is in the playoffs. I'd say that his probably means we will have to give up an extra pick to make up a value difference, if we did try to move way up, and with the amount of needs still within the roster, I don't think we should be doing that. Tbh, I think it's way too early to be thinking about trades, as nobody knows how the FA market is going to shake out, and there are an awful lot of possibilities there, for QB 'needy' teams, to go out and find themselves a guy they would be happy to have starting for them - and that includes the Bills. I genuinely believe that it is going to cost way too much to move up high enough to get one of the top QB prospects. Too many teams at the top, need one themselves, as do many of the teams just below them. The Colts are probably going to make a killing, if they trade down, and the Giants could also do quite well for themselves, just by dropping a few places, and taking a guy who they could develop behind Eli for a year or two. Currently, I have no real sense of what the best areas of this years draft will be, or if it's actually got any It does sound like there are a fair number of decent QB prospects, and as such, my inclination would be to see if we can get one of those, without giving up the farm. As others have pointed out, we should be able to move up into the low teens without too much trouble - or giving up half this years draft, and I think that doing that isn't going to compromise getting some of the holes of the roster filled.
  17. Sometimes the AP actually will vote against someone who has been a toe rag. A bit like the HOF voters will sometimes keep guys out because they don't like their attitude. Getting suspended for stuff on the field, isn't exactly going to endear him to them, especially as many of them expressed dislike/disgust for the cheap shot.
  18. I think we beat Jax, so our picks are likely to get worse, tbh.
  19. Yeah, I edited it, but not that much difference tbh.
  20. Well, it was the long snapper who did it - which is pretty laughable.
  21. That was just being greedy. Still, helps us.
  22. Iirc, Whaley would often 'tinker' with the PS until late in the season. It's a valuable tool to find guys who you think will come in and 'fit' what you are trying to do. Teams will have lists of guys they are interested in, who they couldn't pick up for whatever reason, and the more of those guys you get to see, the more chance you have of finding someone who will stick.
  23. Under the OPs scenario, it will be the draft pick that hurts you more. Mainly due to what you gave up to get him, as that could have improved the rest of your team, a lot, and you still have the opportunity to draft another QB next year. Heck, if you don't give up the picks, you might still have a shot at one this year anyway. The way the NFL is, if you do find a QB, you are going to have to pay them eventually, regardless.
  24. Good to see this. Someone has to try and get clarity on how this sort of thing happens. It seems as though Riveron is unilaterally changing how the review system is supposed to work, and that has to be unacceptable. As Pegula, and others have said, if you have to go frame by frame, for several minutes, you should be going with the call on the field. Rocket science, it isn't.
  25. Don't think I can disagree with this. There have been a few head scratchers this year, but this is up there with the rest of them. As someone said earlier, Fred Jackson would be more useful than Tolbert, heck he probably blocks better than him as well.
