Once Fitz is forced to win a game the Jets will see how limited he can be. But right now the Jets defense is rolling and their offense hasn't faced a good defense just yet.

Ryan obviously has no clue how to beat N.E.
billsfan89 replied to San-O's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Brady and the Pats* have a lot of teams numbers. There really isn't a team with Brady's number. If you look at the teams that have supposably had Brady's number (The Ravens, Broncos, and Giants) they have all gotten !@#$ed by Brady at times. -
If it's conclusive then fine the Bills.

Why not press coverage if not blitzing?
billsfan89 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Dennis Green strategy of they won't expect it because "No one can be that stupid". -
I remember listening to sports talk radio and they said that football message boards always follow this typical pattern. Monday after a loss- The team is terrible, the team will lose every game the rest of the way, what's the point of not forfeiting the rest of the season? Tuesday after a loss- The team is terrible and will likely lose every game but maybe they shouldn't forfeit all the games just yet after all maybe they can win 1 more game. Wednesday after a loss- The team is still terrible but some semblance of sanity starts to set in and context gets brought into the loss. Thursday to Gameday- The farther removed you get from the loss the more sense of balance and reason seeps in. The soreness from losing isn't as bad. After a win it's the same but in the opposite direction. Everything after a win is saying how the team is going to win a Super Bowl and that the league should just award them the trophy to save everyone some time. So the up and down nature of this board is just a severely emotional reaction to a win or loss either very positively or negatively.

Taylor looked over-matched and severely limited till the last few drives when Roman opened up the offense and McCoy got going a bit as well. Overall I liked how he snapped back throwing that TD to Sammy. You can claim that the first two TD drives were pseudo garbage time against a soft defense that was up 37-13. But at 37-25 with about 4 minutes left the Pats* were for sure trying to stop the Bills and close that game out. Not only did the Bills drive up for a TD to make it a 5 point game but they did it with two plays and a quick strike. That drive gave the Bills a legit shot to win that game. Hell they actually had the ball with some time left (1:36 not a whole lot of time but enough time) and down 8 points. So overall there were some positives in that late push even if it ended in undramatic fashion.

I'd Look to Trade Cassell to Cowboys
billsfan89 replied to BuffaloBillsMagic1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
At best you would get a 5th or worse round pick. If the Cowboys were willing to trade a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round pick for a QB they could do a lot better than Matt Cassell. -
Draft busts happen even to the Best GM's but yeah in the context of everything that happened after that pick, it makes that pick look even worse. Also a lot of people thought the Eagles logic in trading McCoy for Kiko and not budging to Mathis and not resigning Maclin was that they would invest their cap resources into the defense. Well they signed Murray to the same deal McCoy was signed and took on a much larger contract than Foles with Bradford. So a lot of those cap savings went to simply rearranging pieces, they did sign Byron Maxwell and a few other pieces on defense but the results have been mixed so far.

Expect every defense to attack our offense like this...
billsfan89 replied to BmarvB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
TT needs a lot of work but I was good to see Roman finally utilizing Shady properly at times. Opening up to 3 WR 1 TE sets and Shady in the backfield. Sammy, Harvin, Woods, and Clay are all targets that command a level of attention. Sammy looks to command a double team or the attention of the oppositions best corner. Harvin, Woods, and Clay can all make good use of lesser matchups or Sammy getting doubled. Shady needs to be in those sorts of sets often. Karlos should be used as a ground and pound between the tackles option in certain situations. Of course the O-line needs to play better but Taylor needs to get much more comfortable in the pocket, if not Roman needs to scheme the offense around that weakness a little more while slowly getting TT more comfortable in the pocket. The offense is a work in progress but if TT can progress and Roman can utilize the weapons and Shady then the Bills will put up points decently. -
Best Defenses Ever - Some Perspective
billsfan89 replied to Mark80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The NFL season when looking back on it can be filled with one week aberrations. But all those are now in the context of great defenses guiding teams to Super Bowls. The Bills only have 2 weeks to measure their defense and so far it's a mixed bag. I think it can be a good thing to get smacked early. Rex getting humbled early can be a good thing as you know this is going to stick with him and keep him and the team in general from buying into their own hype. I will say this the Fins game is a must win if the team is a legit playoff team. Quality Division opponent at home and both teams in a pseudo must win situation. Bills coming off that horrendous loss, Fins coming off a horrible loss to the Jags at home desperately need to win, Bills need to win coming in at 1-1, playoff teams pile up wins early and often esp in their division. Bills really can't afford to go 0-2 in the division. -
Kyle Williams: Bills lack of composure "inexcusable"
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hopefully it's a good wake-up call for the defense to not buy into their own hype. Also maybe Rex can learn and gear up and coach better the rest of the way. It can be a good long term thing for a team to get smacked early. Let's be honest when a lot of us looked at the Bills schedule weeks 1 and 2 and saw the Colts and the Pats* a split of those games would have been more than acceptable. If they come in and smack the Fins around then the season starts to snap into being. -
Ran DeSean Jackson out of town, didn't want to pay Jeremy Maclin, and ousted LeSean McCoy. To replace McCoy they had to give a big contract to DeMarco Murray. To replace Jackson and Maclin they had to spend a 1st round pick on Nelson Agholor and a high 2nd round pick on Jordan Matthews. They also got rid of Evan Mathis and their offensive line has looked a lot worse and that's got to be a contributing factor. So to get rid of Jackson, Maclin, McCoy, and Mathis all to save money or because they didn't fit Chip's system they have had to us valuable draft resources in a 1st and 2nd round pick in back to back years, hand a huge contract to DeMarco Murray (On par to what the Bills gave Shady), and sacrifice the quality of the offensive line. Throw in that dumb Bradford trade which cost them an additional second round pick and money along with Foles and Chip's track record as a GM is horrendous. Chip really !@#$ed up this off-season, he showed signs in the past of carelessly getting rid of talent but it looked to be more shrewd the first couple of years. Getting rid of Jackson and replacing him with Jordan Matthews was an good move, Matthews is a good talent and much cheaper than Jackson and with Maclin waiting in the wings coming off an injury there was talent coming in to supplant the talent coming out. But not resigning Maclin, trading Shady just to sign Murry for the same deal, letting Evan Mathis go, and trading both Foles and a 2nd round pick for the much more expensive and injury prone Bradford (Who may or may not even be as good) were all horrendous and arrogant moves.

Shady looked like his old self and Rex/Roman used him a lot better opening up 3 WR 1 TE sets to get him into space. I think he will turn in a solid season for the Bills. The Pats* lined up to stop the run early and make Tyrod beat him. But once Tyrod got going and the defense had to open up Shady got going and it was part of what sparked the offenses late comeback effort.
-
Taylor sucked for most of the game. The first couple of drives were solid but up until those last few scoring drives Tyrod was terrible today. Inexperienced QB going to be some ups and downs. I will say this, it was encouraging that Tyrod put together those last few scoring drives. The first couple of scores were pesudo garbage time. But when the Bills recovered that Brady fumble that scoring drive wasn't garbage time. Plenty of time left on the clock and a score would have left the Pats* with a single score lead with too much time on the clock. That last scoring drive gave the Bills a chance to tie that game with over 1:30 on the clock down 8. Not the best chance but a real tangible shot and with a lot of offensive momentum. It was just good to Tyrod show fight to put a scare into the Pats*. Even if their defense is terrible.

The Aaron Williams update thread
billsfan89 replied to Just Jack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hopefully it's nothing long term, he seems to be very passionate about this team and this game. I suspect they will sit him for a week. -
I think the Bills need to mirror what the Giants did against the Pats* in those two Super Bowls. Line a big run stuffer up in the inside like Dareus but put a quick defensive end type next to him. Maybe line Mario up inside in the A or B gap while having Dareus patroling the other sides A or B gap. Then have Hughes going off the blind side and line another speed rusher on the other side. Just have one big run stuffer up the middle and then all speed to try and get to Brady as quickly as possible. The Giants had Tuck and JPP lined up on the inside with two other rushers along the edge and a big DT up the middle. I think you have to try and get to Brady as quickly as possible, even if you don't sack or hit him getting hands in his face and making it hard to step up in the pocket are also going to be disruptive for Brady.
-
Maybe It's a double agent type plan. Cut Brown with the intention of resigning him back but cut him knowing the Pats* will prod him for information. So you have Brown fill the Pats* with a bunch of misinformation. Then two weeks later Bryce is back on the team. (All said in a Jesse Ventura conspiracy theory voice).

brady sold his soul to the devil
billsfan89 replied to enlightener's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To play Devils advocate, In Brady's two losses to the Giants in the Super Bowl the Giants needed a miracle Eli Manning to David Tyree play and a Wide open Wes Welker dropping a pass. So it's not like nothing close has ever not gone Brady's way. I think Brady's career has been so successful because of a sociopath head coach willing to bend every grey area and outright cheat in some cases, being handed a great Defense for the first and most successful part of his career, and then building a reputation off of those aspects where he and his team do get close calls and bend pick play rules. So it's a case of the Pats* cheating and having a great defense during the first half of Brady's career leading to him being successful and then that success building to a reputation where even more cheating and calls go his way. -
Polian Says "Colts Had a 1st Round Grade on Brady"
billsfan89 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I remember an older interview with the old Knicks coach from the 1970's Red Holzman. "If you ask me about the past and it is about something good. Then I was for it and always was for it, and it might have been my idea. If something was bad, then I was always against it." This seems like Polian is just trying to have an I knew it all along moment. -
I am not smart enough in how I watch football to know. I have seen it posted around here that Gronk has been fairly limited when he has played against the Jets. In eight games against Ryan’s defenses, Gronk has 39 career catches for 461 yards and five touchdowns. That's about 4.5 catches, 57 yards, and a .6 TD's a game. And considering how the Jets secondary was oblitrated last season for 2 of those games I would say Ryan has done a decent job against Gronk. He hasn't shut him down but he has seemed to handle him well for such a dangerous player.
-
I trust Rex, he has defended Gronk pretty well through most of his career.
-
Yeah, it wouldn't make sense all these players are going for unpaid workouts giving te Pats* everything they want about their former teams without getting signed first. Why not give them some incentive to sign you. I do think Brown will catch on as the season progresses, RB's will get hurt and he is one of the better younger ones on the waiver wire.

NFL rules explained: the pick play
billsfan89 replied to Webster Guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You can't blame the teams really, on the field if you can get an advantage by pushing the grey area of a rule you would hard pressed to find a team not doing it. But the league has to step in and enforce it consistently. If the rule is too ambigious and it's too much of a judgement call for the refs then you have to put some sort of emphasis or adjustment on the rule. Much like Seattle pushed the contact rules the NFL snapped back the emphasis to make sure illegal contact and pass interference was called consistenly. This pick play stuff has got to go it's not consistently or fairly enforced.
