I am amazed that we have had a 6-10 team for this long and every time I come here there is a new thread about getting rid of our best players. The people that think the Bills come here for info or ideas couldn't be more wrong, if they come here it is simply to laugh their asses off. .

Source: Bills could have new owner as soon as October
SRQ_BillsFan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
People keep forgetting that the NFL signed the lease as well. Give. That if someone just up and moved the team they could not have the blessing of the NFL. Simple as not changing the schedule. . -
It's obvious, we need to take a 6-5 RT with 4.3 speed, great hands, that can clog up the middle, tackle near the LoS, stay with TE's or RB's out of the backfield that has great ball hawking skills. Oh, and he also needs to be a ST's stud. We get this guy at #9 and we are set for years. .

The Fans can keep the Bills in Buffalo
SRQ_BillsFan replied to Kellyto83TD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here's my idea, whether the Ralph or a new sight for the stadium is determined best then divide the land into a pie. Give each of the WNY counties a slice to add to existing land boundaries and then split the county portion to include a tax for all of the WNY counties. If this is truly supposed to be a regional team and Erie county can't go it alone then spread the cost among the many counties with fans supporting the regional team. I know it would never happen, too many people are against raising taxes for a millioners toy. But if a new owner was found that wanted to keep the team here it would not be to make as much money as possible. I have no link but everything I have seen in the past is against raising taxes for a new stadium, this site being an exception. That is what scares me the most. If I were someone interested in moving the team I would be pushing hard to get any tax increase on the ballet as I would believe it has a good chance of failing. I guess if it needs a public vote and then it gets voted down, then the people have spoken and no longer care enough. What a shame that would be. . -

Report: lease buyout does not exist
SRQ_BillsFan replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So if they can not win does that mean they also can't win the threshold to get to the $$ 28.7 mil buyout. Making that a non issue as well, if we assume they can never get there? . -
Report: lease buyout does not exist
SRQ_BillsFan replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I read somewhere it had to do with the expiration of the current CBA in case the Bills needed an out based on something that could be included. Not sure if there is any additional protection around it? My understanding is that the NFL signed this contract also. So they are locked in as well. -
Bad news, just bad news. Get well quickly Jimbo, your our only hope! Prayers to you and your family.

Rotoworld analysis of Bills needs
SRQ_BillsFan replied to Lothar's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think people fear it, most want to bring a backup in. I don't want to see a high pick wasted on a QB and think a lower level draft choice wouldn't be ready and is likely no better than what we have. -
While you have a valid point. What the Bills don't have is Brady and that makes a whole different argument. My point was we have none, zero, elite players at any of the skill positions. I mentioned the 3 big ones QB WR. RB in my original post. If we did indeed have one or two it's a whole different situation than what we have today and I would not feel the same way about an OT as I do today. There just are not a lot of competitive teams with no elite players at the skill positions. I guess that was the basis of my thought process. .

Mike Brown Genius? New strategy with QBs born?
SRQ_BillsFan replied to DC Grid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let's face it from where most of us sit they are all overpaid. But this is America and entertainers can make big bucks. Would love to go back to the days where they made less and tickets were much cheaper. If we keep paying more across the board, prices will keep going up. I don't see a league wide boycott anytime soon. I don't think that the QB's in the 5th to 10th spot are overpaid when you are looking from the bottom up instead of top down. Arguably the top 5 are underpaid, but there is only so much of a salary the cap can take before it doesn't work. I am sure they would tell you that they all gave a discount to win, even Payton. To back this up, look at what baseball players make where there is no Salary cap. 30 million a year to play a game? Even if there are few making 30 million there are many making 20 and many times that many making over 10 million. On an iPhone but looked quickly and in 2006 there were over 50 players making $10 million or more, 50 in 2006. Gotta be well over 100 today. If there were no cap in football, I could see Payton and Brady making well over $30 million a year. Obviously the cap couldn't stand that, but it pushes the argument that all of the top QB's left money on the table "for the good of the team". I can't speak for them, but I think I could give up on my Super Bowl dream to make an extra $70-$150 million or more in my "career". When the day comes if they are still eligible, I wonder how many of them will apply for their Social Security? In any case they will most likely feel underpaid based on what QBs will be making then. I do wonder what that will do to the "profits" of the teams? With the disparity of revenue between the haves and teams like Buffalo, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburg etc. The only place some of these teams may make a profit may end up being the dollars that they can save under the salary cap. That will be interesting if one of these teams has a QB like Payton at the time. They may have no choice but to trade or "sell" them. Although teams are getting smarter and guaranteeing money over several years a career ending injury after a new contract will eventually cripple a team at these rates. But back on point as many have pointed out, the goal has to be to remain competitive and hope for a little luck. That's a lot easier to do with an elite QB than several elite players at other positions. While finding a few players at other positions is easier than finding the elite QB, it's obviously still a crapshoot for teams like the Bills. -
While I think pointing out contract status by position merits attention, it needs a few more steps to the process: - who would the Bills want to keep (this years draft and free agents from this year and next may change that. - who do they think they can sign for the price the Bills can live with - who do they think would be difficult to resign. I think we will have players who we will need or attempt to address this year before their contracts expire. Some won't sign and there are others the Bills will let play out their contracts before making a decision. Other than Hughes, I'm not sure I see anyone that we don't think we can work with. Even Hughes may be doable. Based on this, I'm not sure if I feel this changes our needs in the upcoming draft. That is certainly different than saying we don't have needs. One area where this does come into play... Here's to hoping that the way things have been handled in the past have no bearing on what happens in this draft and with regards to future contracts and free agency. I'm hoping that past drafts have no bearing on determining picks now or in the future. And that pending free agency contracts and mistakes are a thing of the past, that we can lock people up early and spend within reason. Every team let's people walk, it's the nature of free agency, but let's hope they make smart attempts at preventing this. I think we all agree that Levitre was not worth close to the paycheck he got and that we didn't seem to plan all that well in filling the hole. What I don't know is how big of a push was made behind the scenes to try to extend him early, or if they tried to find someone to fill the hole? I realize what we have learned from the press and other sources, I just like to pretend that there was more to this and other stories that will never be known. I just find it hard to accept that we have made so many bad decisions over the last decade plus. While I do understand that in several cases the truth is out there and accurate. I just wish is wasn't the case. I love this team and will follow them to the day I die. While I am often hard on them I always find myself making excuses in my own head for them. "It's hard at times to root for the Bills in the NFL." Go Bills!

How about Lucas Oil Stadium in Buffalo?
SRQ_BillsFan replied to oman128's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
SUPERBOWL!!!! That's why we need the dome. Not enough hotel rooms, no problem. Just set up cots right on the field. People will jump at the the chance to be right down there on the field. For people that want to pay more we can put curtains up to seperate the cots. Got extra cash to spend? You get your own porta potty. No problems, show the world we are 1st class. -
If you were picking a team from a scratch, even on the playground, the 1st thing you want on your team is elite playmakers, skill positions. The Bills have no elite skill position players. Sure they have some decent players, but we have no elite WR, QB, RB. The team is going with EJ next year, while out RB's are not elite, they are pretty damn good. Not true about the wide receivers, I am all for trying to go for the elite receiver and a better than average RT in round 2. Without question it depends on how the board falls with BPA, but all things equal try to upgrade the skill position (WR) at the expense of the elite RT. .

Rams, Raiders jockey for return to SoCal
SRQ_BillsFan replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually the city/county was going to invest. Problem is they gave the Rams a sweet heart deal that says the stadium must be in the top tier (5-7-10?) of all NFL stadiums. This means they must compete against all of the new billion dollar + stadiums like jerry world. It's the city's fault but not sure they saw this coming or that the Rams would hold them to it to this degree. They wanted to negotiate something in the middle but the Rams took it to the courts and an arbitrator ruled in their favor. I would bet another team would be happy with the current dome and a sweetheart lease. Maybe a few improvements. City should have known what they were signing. . -
Why draft a LOT to play ROT?
SRQ_BillsFan replied to maryland-bills-fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think there is a debate if Matthews or Robinson is there at 9. But it's not likely. This becomes the question. It's not simply do we or do we not draft an OT. There is a falloff of talent after those two that makes you look at the value of Lewan and players at other positions. . -
Others have said it but I think we take a safety and a RB in this draft. Certainly not in the 1st but I can see them taking a S at 2 or 3 if there is one available that they like. The RB would be a 4th or lower in my opinion. Just pointing it out because I think this messes up the WR/TE/OT in any order as far as being our top 3 selections. The RB may mess things up more, if picking those three in the top 4 would be your next thought when you toss a safety into 2-3. I also am of the belief you do not go RT in round 1. I have no idea what they will actually do or what they are thinking, but feel a safety and RB, while not in the 1st are in play within picks 2-5. .

Predict Jairus Byrd's contract - $25 Amazon card to winner
SRQ_BillsFan replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
5 years, 48 mil - 25.5 guaranteed to S. F. 17 mil in year one. (Hope this part doesn't count as part of the guess. But threw it out there. . -
I think it was understood when Marrone took over that Overdorf did the contract and salary cap stuff. However in the past Marrone presented that they had great communication and implied that they would always be on the same page. Does make one wonder if this is no longer true possibly regarding Bird or free agent spending in general? I would think other teams may have been set up similar? I always took this to mean that the GM would still control rough salary and Overdorf would make it work best from a spending/cap scenario as to how it was specifically set up. Giving him what seems to be full/final control is troubling. How can a coach or coach GM not control the trainers? Why would they report to someone else? This truly makes no sense to me. .

QB turmoil possible in Buffalo
SRQ_BillsFan replied to BeastMode54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In an open competition if Manuel doesn't play well it would not be impossible for Thad to beat him out. However if they figure in "potential" I am not sure it would ever be a open competition. But if people want to compare their numbers and point out how they were close, then in theory he has competition. Unless of course they just hand it to him and name him the starter, which seems to be the case. As much as people want to point to this being his second year and having a full year plus training camp which should make him better. Thad should also be improved using the same logic. Like anyone else, I hope EJ takes a big leap forward and we forget about these posts altogether. -
Bruce Smith questions all this so called tolerance in Buffalo.
