To all the Fire McDermott Posters, a follow up question..
Mr. WEO replied to ChicagoRic's topic in The Stadium Wall
thread so fresh... -
Yup more reps, more touches did the trick. I'd take the occasional drops, given the 17+ per catch and production: 88% of his receptions were for 1st downs or TDs.
-
Agreed. My point is he plays injured and had a huge increase in his production over the previous season. Every #2 receiver gets a chunk in one big game here and there. Look at Diggs: huge first half of the season...after week 9 he went to sleep.
-
Missed 2 games in 3 years. got nearly 1000 yards total last season despite high ankle sprain in September...
-
no one said he’s a bum or that he sucked. He struggled often. but I get it, you feel McDs talent is very unique. Ok.
-
You are arguing against something I didn't say. But did struggle. How many CBs in the history of the game have "gotten torched for 200 yards"? What a bizarre measuring stick. How many times does that happen in the course of a 285 game season? How times in the past 10 years? Every backup will look lost in a game or two. Many others will also not be "instantly exposed"....but will be exposed at some point. This is all obviously true...and true no matter the coach.
-
Every coach is forced to put backups in starter position every year due to injuries etc--they all have to take "meaningful snaps" at some point. When in, they are paid to make plays. Backups have to play in the NFL every week--it's not coaching genius that makes them functional. It's skill, preparedness and necessity. Wallace struggled his whole time here. He just had his best season in LV. Benford will be a backup to White. Jackson will go back to being a backup behind a second year player. Look, he's a good coach. Getting "a lot out of a little" is fine and all, but getting the most out of your best players in the most important games is the metric that actually separates the HCs in this league, not coaching up benchwarmers.

Evaluating Head Coaches Methodology, and Applying it to current coaches.

Bills place TE Zach Davidson on IR...ending season
Mr. WEO replied to Dablitzkrieg's topic in The Stadium Wall
He can't be cut from IR can he? -
No coach does this.
-
Sure, could be. It's reasonable to expect something else for a top 10 going into his 5th year other than "maybe he'll be great some day".
-
Then some other team can pay for one huge year out of 5 for the 9th overall pick.
-
There were 9 others. His catch rates in the 3 elimination playoff games since he has been in Buffalo are 54, 50 and 40%. That's 13/27 for a whopping 119 yards. Zero TDs. In Minnesota, he wasn't much better in close out losses: 3 games, 14 catches on 23 targets for 153 yards and 1 TD. He has 1 career TD in 6 season ending playoff losses. Not exactly "Big Game Steph", eh? With the season on the line, he gets shut down.
-
They did that in the Cincy game. He was targeted 10 times. He caught 4 passes.

normally I don't help out the lazy, but since you're new here, I'll do you this solid one time. (this took 30 seconds): https://www.wfmj.com/story/49079297/diggs-returns-to-practice-with-bills-coach-mcdermott-saying-receivers-concerns-are-resolved "While McDermott didn’t divulge the details of his conversations with Diggs, Allen shed light on the issues a day earlier. The quarterback said Diggs’ concerns are unresolved issues stemming from last season, which include getting the receiver more involved in the offense and having more game-planning input as among the player’s concerns. “I think that there are some things that could have gone better last year and didn’t," Allen said. "I think as an organization, maybe not communicating the right way with everything.” "To begin with, McDermott said Diggs didn’t skip the team’s mandatory session on Tuesday, but was in fact excused. As for the issues that led to Diggs’ concerns in questioning his role in the offense, the coach said the team and the receiver are “in a real good spot.” McDermott made an unscheduled appearance with reporters after practice to address questions raised regarding Diggs’ status, by clarifying and expanding on the limited comments he made in helping create the stir a day earlier. That's when he said he was “very concerned” with the receiver leaving the team’s facility and missing a mandatory practice. In laying out a timeline, McDermott said he and team officials spent Monday and Tuesday having conversations with Diggs to address the receiver’s concerns. The team and player then agreed to take a break from talks, with McDermott saying he excused Diggs from practicing and then picked up the conversations later in the day." It's not speculation or "irresponsible" (lol), but common knowledge--even in this thread.

every job should give the whole company the rest of the week off after the second day on the job! "workers paradise", indeed!
-
It's not a mystery. He's complaining about his role in the Offense. Read the papers. Kelly called out Ballard and the O-line for letting him get killed in a game, injuring his knee. Disagree with approach? I guess. But that's what it was. Hardly the first QB to lodge that complaint publicly.
-
Kelly (and everyone else) showed up for work. The Bickering was over guys not stepping up and playing their best. It was not, as it is in Digg's case, one player crying over not being even MORE the focus of the Offense. Kelly would never look Diggs's way until week 5 after this kind of behavior
-
Agreed. This is modern pro athlete self centered drama. those Bills would have choice words for what is going on here...
