  1. I had student loans in the late 70s-early 80s and I think the interest was about 6%.CDs were 18%. I knew a few people who took out loans, put them in CDs and made money. I wish I had ANY loan that charged under 1%.
  2. Warmth is more important than fashion.
  3. Haven't seen them around, but they are local in the SF Bay area. The Alameda Sheriff's Bomb Range is just over two miles away, on the other side of the reserve base in town. Someone recently put a geocache near where a cannonball accidentally went through a house (an episode that won't air). The cannon must have been overloaded considering where the range is in relation to where the cannonball ended up.
  4. I'm doing a job this week next door to Solyndra. If I see something strange or fishy, I'll let you know.
  5. My brother was not college material. We were glad he finished high school in 4 years. Now 25 years later, has a nice productive job with the Erie County Highway Dept plowing.
  6. Washington DC?
  7. Sent me into about 45 minutes of Buffalo Springfield, Them, Paul Revere and the Raiders, and many other late 60s bands.

  9. A Rockabilly song called "Party Doll by Buddy Knox. Never heard of it.
  10. Glad he got a new ticker and is still his feisty self. We need someone out there telling the emperor he has no clothes.
  11. Through my hobby (geocaching)I know this professional singer from the LA area. She is in a quartet called Bethoven's Wig, which takes classical music and makes it attractive to small kids. Their signature song is "Bethoven's wig, is very big..." (Beethoven's Fifth) they throw in Dance of the Toreadors, etc. Someone who was going got sick and gave me the ticket. It was very enjoyable although the only time I saw the BPO was those field trips in elementary school. All the hyperactive rugrats were jumping about where the orchestra pit would be. You've heard some of her work - she is the singer in the intro on the remastered ST:TOS DVDs, was the singer in the Volkswagen commercial with ELO's 'Mr. Blue Sky" (she said Jeff Lyne was great to work with) , the scene in The Simpsons Movie where the birds are helping Marge in the cabin in Alaska, and had done jingles for Glee and lots of other things. One Christmastime, the BPO was supposed to play at noon in the M&T building and it fell through that day. I was in grad school at Roswell Park and the moved a lot of the tables around, brought down a lot of patients and played in the cafeteria. We were supprised to hear them as we walked in there. The Christmas songs sound amazing when you hear them from 50 feet away played by professional musicians.
  12. I thought that was the special version they only do in SF.
  13. On the Stanford campus, the cyclists don't obey any rules/ They tear through crosswalks without stopping and have for years. I worked there in the mid 90s and a saw a great collision between two cyclists. It was right in the middle of campus where driving was banned. There was a guy about 5'4"-5'6" going slow with the pedestrian flow. Suddenly a 6' or taller guy comes barreling across the flow of pedestrian and slow bicycle traffic and plows into the side of the smaller guys bike. After they both go down, the shorter guy grabs the bicycle pump from the taller guys bike and starts wailing on the bicycle while screaming a tirade of swearing. Everybody stopped and burst into applause.
  14. I think they put Uncle Joe's plugs in upside down.
  15. If they did any research, they'd find the plans and see this was planted in the 1930s when the GG Bridge was built. You know in the 30s, they just bulldozed the area flat, built the road and planted the bushes. A lot of the Presidio has been landscaped. I did a job in the Presidio last month in an area that was flat, Through the research I had to do, I found that the lawn in front of the building was labeled as "Tin Can Dump" on surveying maps from 1928. Another flat area was a dump where they had buried the remains of the wooden building that used to be on the property prior to 1932. Plus the Doyle Drive reconstruction was planned well before The One proclaiming it a shovel -ready stimulus project. By time they got there, they found it had been smoked.
  16. Which one has had the turkey baster? Can't get along with her SO.
  17. You're correct. It was late and I had a drink. They both have trains in them.
  18. Franken was robbed of an Oscar nomination for his role in Silver Streak.
  19. These are slip fault quakes (horizontal motion. They rarely produce tsunamis. The Christmas quake and the one last year are thrust faults, where there is a lot of vertical motion.
  20. White House: "Those basketballs you sent us are all out of round!" BB Manufacturer: "That's because they've been bounced exclusively on the side with the face."
  21. Didn't he star in Powder?
  22. Another example of him being a !@#$tard. St. Patricks Day isn't a stupid excuse to get drunk? At least he'll like the polish sausage they sent him. How stupid is Playing croquet, drinking martinis and eating watercress sandwiches with mummy and daddy at the Newport Mansion? (his mom is Gloria Vanderbuilt)
  23. Was Franklin Raines Barney's boyfriend? I actually don't recognize his name. Barney's squeeze was one of the muckety-mucks at one of the Fs.
