Matt Barkley Back? (Yep! deal not yet known)
Magox replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
You guys have to understand that WEO doesn’t believe in abstract concepts such as creating a “culture”. If he doesn’t believe that how in the hell do you expect him to understand that a player like Barkley would. E good for the QB room and that there ancillary benefits aside from what he can do on the football field. Which for a 3rd string QB, he is above average. -
Whaley has an eye for talent but that was about it. The GM role encompasses much more than that, Whaley would be best served as some sort of head scouting role.

A poor man's Patterson (Laviska Shenault Jr.)
Magox replied to filthymcnasty08's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Bills will probably look to replace some of Beasley’s production which is someone who can get open - produce a relatively high volume of catches who you can trust on third down to make a play. Laviska is not that guy. If McKenzie hadn’t of signed with the Bills then having that gadget role may have been available for a Laviska sort of player. I could be wrong but I don’t think they go this route. -
Bills trade 7th rnd pick for backup Case Keenum

Are the Bills on the hook for the entire $6m? -
Haden would be a great fit. Not sure how much $$ he would command though

Breaking: Von Miller to bills, 6 year , 120 million

I’m sure they could continue lowering the cap hit for the next few years and leave larger dead cap hits towards the end -
Almost all humans have some emotion unless they are a sociopath, and I’m sure Beane was pissed as evidenced in his comments. With that said, Beane is about as methodical, process driven person that there is. I remember reading this long article filled with Beane quotes and people who knew him when the Bills hired him (Which for the life of me I cannot find), regarding his approach to his decisions. I just remember immediately after reading it saying to myself “He’s the one”. I instantly became a supporter of his. I can relate with the process and the methodic approach because that is how we deal with things in our company and I’m a true believer in that. Beane made some very tough choices immediately when he stepped in, choices that left a lot of crying and bitching from some in the fan base after he decided to trade Watkins, Dareus, releasing the legendary JAG RB Williams among other things. But there was a plan in place, they wanted to build culture which many in this board believe is fictional, release malcontents, make smart financial decisions based off of $, availability and production and at the end of the day Beane was going to succeed or fail doing it under the old mantra of Sinatra “I did it my way”. Which there can be no other proper way than that. He hasn’t always hit a home run (but then again who does), but he has made more good big decisions than bad. I don’t believe for a minute that the McKissic deal impacted the Von Miller signing. May he have felt a little more emotion? Certainly, but it wasn’t THE reason why the Miller deal came about.
-
The Bills new they were losing Beasley and they were trying to replace some of what Beasley did which was produce some volume of catches and picking up firsts on third down. The McKissic loss was not insignificant and I still think they try to get someone in a similar mold whether it be a RB or slot receiver.

Considering the cap situation and what it would cost to get a quality QB vet, this seems about right. I think there is probably a decent chance that the Bills may end up drafting a QB higher than you’d think to groom into being the eventual backup. Plus there is a chance that another QB could be released and picked up. -
Cutting Star Lotulelei- why not ask him to retire?
Magox replied to Commish's topic in The Stadium Wall
Because it’s not up to the employer to ask him to retire. It’s a personal decision that he would make with the ones he wants to make the decision with. The Bills offered the contract and he’s able to maneuver as he pleases within the construct of that agreement. -
Gonna miss the guy

The Bills rolled the dice and they may end up paying the price. In my view, he would be a pretty significant loss. Yes, it is a rather smallish sample size but he did perform well down the stretch. If the Bills lose out and have to replace him, they very likely may end up downgrading in FA to replace him and hope that one of their draft choices end up being better. Personally, I would rather have Bates be in the mix for the competition with the inside track.

Loved what he brought to the table. Came up big in big games, super dependable, tough and very productive for the Bills. Great signing and helped Josh in his development. He will be missed but it’s the right move.

No way we go into the season with Dane Jackson and a potentially gimp White. I think they will get a solid mid tier vet in FA and draft a DB early. One of the coaching staffs strengths is getting good DB play out of mid level talent.

He is. Did you see what he did his last 8 games including the playoffs? He had 9 sacks in 8 games. Only one game he didn’t record a sack and 4 of those sacks were in the playoffs. I watched that dude closely and he was a terror down the stretch and just outright dominant. Keeps himself in immaculate shape, barring injury he still has a few quality years left in the tank. -

I wasn’t including practice squaders QB - Trubisky RB - Taiwan Jones, Breida WR - McKenzie (been addressed, Sanders, Beasley OL - Darryl Williams (was addressed with Saffold, Mongo, Cody Ford (potentially), Boettger (potentially), Bates (addressed) TE - Sweeney (potentially), Gilliam (potentially) DE - Addison, Hughes, Obada (potentially) DT - Star (potentially), Butler (Addressed Settles), Phillips (addressed Daquan) LB - Klein, Matakavich (potentially) CB - Levi Wallace Some of these will most likely remain, but I think it’s safe to say that 15+ new players will be on the roster
