Everything was about helping the running game. That's how you become #1 in YPC and total yards for two straight seasons. Now, whether you can win a Super Bowl this way any more is a different question...

What makes you say that? The Bills spent a ton of time in last year's training camp trying to improve their short and intermediate passing game over the middle (remember all the "OVER THE MIDDLE" posts from Astro's camp reviews.) It didn't lead to any sort of improvement once the season started.

What confuses me is how Marrone can possibly think that he can run the ball that effectively based on the horrific rushing game he had here in Buffalo. They were in the bottom half of the league both years I believe. When he left, the Bills hired an OC who actually knew something about the running game and the immediately moved to #1 in the league. If you are going to base your offense on the running game then you need a real running back and more than 4 rushing plays in your playbook.

You may be right. Maybe they would have blown out the Giants. They SHOULD have blow out the Giants with Kelly. And I doubt that Washington blitzes Marino like they did Kelly with that quick release of his. That could easily have been another win with Marino at the controls.

I didn't pick him, but in his defense he played well against the Giants and those Cowboys teams were among the best and most complete teams of all time. There was no beating them. The only Super Bowl that I thought he played poorly in was against Washington. Everyone here is picking Marino, with good justification, but he got embarrassed in his one Super Bowl trip so that's not everything.

It's good to hear that he's doing well but I'm honestly surprised that he's still on the team. They must really like him because he's never really been that good and he is a major headache between his illness and his suspension. It took a lot less for Kujo to get waived and he was probably just as good.

This is the truth. They're probably thinking that they got a steal right about now. Then when he gets hurt taking a knee on a kickoff return the reality will set in.

We'll have to agree to disagree. He was no where as good as Talley. Maybe comparable to Hansen, who was much better all around but not as good a pass rusher. But Hansen was probably the 4th or 5th best player on that team's front 7. Schobel wouldn't even start on the defense Hansen played on. I watched just about every one of his games. He was a good pass rusher but most NFL teams have at least one pass rusher as good as him. He may have been a standout on those terrible teams but not in the big picture NFL. IMO.

How could they be easy to defend when no one could stop their running game? I think you mean impossible to defend. If you want to see easy to defend that wait until they start throwing the ball around more this season and their points and yards per game plummets. They'll be less predictable though, I'll grant you that. A team with the league's beast running game ends up at 0.500 because they have one of the worst defenses. Like the Bills from the mid 70s.

You are serious overestimating how good he was. Butch Byrd, Cookie Gilchrist and Eric Moulds aren't on the wall, and you're going to put Schobel on there? He was a good DE but not elite. And the fact that he shows up in all these "underrated" lists shows that he was not underrated at all.

I kind of thought so too. Very superficial coverage of the list. Also, if the Pegulas buying the team was number 6, then Ralph founding it should have been #1 not number 10.
