  1. Already? Man the Dolphins really are getting hammered with some bad luck.
  2. True enough about Calvin Johnson. You can look at Moulds here in Buffalo as well. But they didn't need these picks to get a QB. They had plenty of draft capital to move up if they wanted to with their two #1. The key to getting a top QB at this point is identifying the right one. If they had a HOF WR waiting for him then that would have only helped.
  3. Sammy should have been a devastating #1 WR in the new offense. But for some reason the staff didn't think it would happen. Maybe it's their opinion of the Bills QB play or maybe it's his injury history. Who knows.
  4. This is why I don't think this is about QB either. This is simply an evaluation of Sammy's future, IMO.
  5. If Sammy becomes a HOF receiver and the Bills become a playoff team without him then that's great, but it wouldn't be because they traded Sammy. Trading HOF players as they are about to enter their prime is not how you improve your team.
  6. The west coast passing game is about running after the catch. So deep speed is not quite as valuable as it was last season in the 1960s scheme. Size and running ability are more important. However, you really don't want "possession" receivers, if that means that they just catch the ball and get tackled right away. We'll see how the current group fit in. Sadly, Sammy was the best west coast receiver on the roster.
  7. Yeah. The only way this trade works out for the Bills is if Watkins has long term injury issues with his foot. Otherwise, the Rams scored big time. Luckily the Bills hosed the Eagles so that makes it all hurt a little less. A little.
  8. Giving Beane and McDermott the benefit of the doubt, you have to assume that they don't think Watkins will fulfill his potential to turn into an elite WR. Otherwise the trade makes little sense to me. They could easily have kept him by picking up his option or franchising him after a good year. McDermott basically said this at his PC. When asked if the team would be worse in 2017 due to this trade, he responded that you could make arguments either way. That said it all to me regarding his thoughts on Watkins. If he doesn't think that Watkins will be better than Matthews this season then of course trading him for Matthews PLUS a draft pick is a no brainer.
  9. Johnson would have a better case if he didn't stink. He had plenty of opportunity to prove that he was worthy of being a starting QB in the NFL after he left Buffalo and failed. So, Flutie looks like the right choice in retrospect.
  10. How do you know he's not #3? 0 surprises besides that. Lol. I think a better term might have been "preliminary."
  11. Lol. Nice I'm sure they'll try and have been trying for that matter. The good thing about Sammy though is that he can create the space himself and can even make tough catches when there is no space. He just needs to stay on the field and get some decent QB play from Taylor.
  12. Agree 100%. He is still young and was improving each year. Not sure what happens to get him cut, but just about everyone on TBD was ok with it, which surprised me.
  13. Right. I'm sure there's no correlation.
  14. That was the best. It's like saying that someone would be a great WR if the coaches could only figure out how to get him open.
  15. Agree. But that's more because Tannehill sucks. This isn't the Cutler of 10 years ago.
  16. 😆Correct.
  17. He's better then Tannehill so it's an upgrade. They'd probably be better off tanking than bringing in Cutler to eke out 7 or 8 wins.
  18. It's hard to know what to make of reports that Lawson is beating Dawkins and Mills in the pass rush because Mills is a relatively weak pass protector and Dawkins is a rookie. It could be that Lawson is a better pass rusher than people thought or it could be that the tackles are worse than people thought. Hopefully it's the former but we won't know until they line up against some other teams.
  19. Who was Craig's QB again?
  20. It does? OK. Drafting one OL or RB in the top 3 rounds in his 3 NFL drafts (Kouandjio) doesn't really make a strong case to me. But you obviously have a different perspective on what it takes to create a strong running game so maybe Marrone has it figured out. Oh, and Whaley absolutely was trying to get him the players he wanted.
  21. My assertion is that Marrone talks about creating a dominating running game (OP) and runs the heck out of the ball (#1 in rushing attempts in 2013) but doesn't do anything to improve the running attack (employs a basic run scheme, didn't pick up any improvements at RB or OL while in Buffalo). That is why his running attacks have been ineffective (#14 and #26 in YPC). Which one of these facts is inaccurate? Do you think Marrone put the same amount of effort into developing a strong running game as Ryan did when he got here? Be honest and stop with the cherry picking above.
  22. #2 in total yards (#1 in attempts so that may offer some insight into what he's saying now) but #14 in YPC and then with his influence #26 in 2014. If you believe in the running game then you bring in players like Incognito, McCoy and Taylor draft guys like Miller. During Marrone's tenure they were drafting WRs and QBs instead. You also install a system like Roman had with multiple schemes and options so that you are difficult to defend. Heck, they even brought in WRs who were run specialists like Tate and Harvin. Everything was about helping the running game. That's how you become #1 in YPC and total yards for two straight seasons. Now, whether you can win a Super Bowl this way any more is a different question...
  23. What makes you say that? The Bills spent a ton of time in last year's training camp trying to improve their short and intermediate passing game over the middle (remember all the "OVER THE MIDDLE" posts from Astro's camp reviews.) It didn't lead to any sort of improvement once the season started.
