  1. It is a balancing act. There are great college players who lack the overall athleticism or other measurables to become good nfl players. Corey Moore for example was one of the greatest pass rushers in college history, but due to his size and speed was never a factor in the nfl. Other players who had great college careers perform well in the nfl despite not doing well at the combine. Teams have to take both on the field performance and combine results into consideration. If it wasn't for the combine, the Giants would not have the stud pass rusher Jason Pierre-Paul right now. He was a first round player because of the combine, not his great stats in college.
  2. Martin deserved to get in. Reed, Carter, and Brown also deserved to get in. The problem is that only 5 modern players usually make it in per year, so worthy candidates often struggle to get in. It is sad, because all 3 of the wrs mentioned earlier had better careers than Irvin.
  3. It is a shame the Michael Irvin made it in a couple of years ago. Sure he was on three teams that won the super bowl, but Carter, Brown, and Reed would have too had they played on those Dallas teams.
  4. Wade was a very good head coach. Let's break it down. Denver Season one: playoffs Season two: 8-8 Buffalo Season one: playoffs Season two: playoffs Season three_ 8-8 Dallas 13-3, 9-7, 10-6, fired the following season The year he took over each franchise the team's record improved that year. I know he didn't wear a head set, but the bills haven't made the playoffs since he left.
  5. All defenses are hybrid. Sports Illustrated had a good articles about the bears 4/3 Cover Two defense the week prior to their last appearance in the super bowl. According to the article, the bears were only in the 4/3 47% of the time. It was their base defense, but they adjusted based on down, distance, score, etc. I don't think the bills are too concerned with labeling their defense on thing or the other. I do hope however, that their defense improves next year. I could care less with their defense is called.
  6. Teams way over value draft picks. Many times they would rather take a risk on a college player than use the pick for a proven vet.
  7. They turned it around fast because they found a good qb.
  8. I don't understand why people think that Wade is a bad head coach. Let's review is resume. -2 years at Denver: One trip to the playoffs and one 8-8 season. -3 years at Buffalo: Two trips to the playoffs and one 8-8 season. -3 years with Dallas: Two trips to the playoffs, then fired mid way through the next season. He won a playoff game and improved to a 13-3 record after taking over for Parcells.
  9. The bills loved Big Ben and did try to trade up to get him. They contacted the Texans who drafted 10th but they were unwilling to move down because they really liked the cb Robinson. They called the Jaguars to attempt to move up to the # 9, but they asked for too much (we all know now it would have been worth it). This was due to the fact that the browns gave up an early #2 to move up 1 spot to get Winslow. They Jaguars used the pick to select Reggie Williams who would have been available later had they traded down. As for trading up and down, the bills should be making more of an effort. The Eagles and Patriots trade every year, and have accumulated a lot of talent because of it. The Jets often trade up. That is how they got Revis for example. Good GMs make moves to help their teams.
  10. The colts were one of the most pathetic organizations in football before Manning got there, but you could be right. I could see the bills offering the colts the most but Indianapolis trading him to another team out of respect.
  11. I wish the bills would get an All Pro anything. Seriously, when was the last time the bills had a player selected as a first team All Pro?
  12. I think it is possible they will contend. A 5-3 record with the schedule the bills have played is impressive. Sure they have weakness, but so does every other nfl team outside of Green Bay.
  13. I wonder if 3-4 defensive ends have much of a shot. They just don't get the sacks that the 4-3 defensive ends get. I hope Dareus has a shot, but I'm not sure he will get in as a defensive end.
  14. I think the lack talent level of the players on the field does make a difference. How has the Colts offense looked with the same coaching staff this year.
  15. JP wasn't a great qb, but there are a lot of worse QBs in the league right now. They guy did throw for 3,000 yards one season with a QB rating in the 80s. The bills were 7-9 that season. Is that what you want out of your first round pick, no. Is he a better option than many of the 3rd string qbs in the league? Yes he is.
  16. The Jets failed to sell out their first game in the new stadium on the first monday night of the season. The NFL let the jets buy the remaining tickets for pennies on the dollar. I don't think they have ever done that for the bills.
  17. Chan has has averaged over 30 ppg with a bunch of 7th round picks and undrafted free agents. He didn't lose the game today.
  18. Chan called the right play, Fitzpatrick however, did not execute.
  19. The bills passing offense is all about quick passes. Play action passing tends to slow down the play, so I don't anticipate the bills using it very often.
  20. They drafted Spiller because Gailey realized that the NFL was turning into a passing league where quick passes and screens to a scat backs would be used far more frequently. They also drafted Spiller because Nix and Gailey did not know what they had in Fred Jackson. When Spiller had ball security issues and could not pick up a blitz while at the same time Jackson played great, Spiller saw his role in the offense diminish. When Spiller is no longer a liability, he will receive more time. He is still a great talent, and will be productive at some point.
  21. Jackson was a restricted free agent so the bills had a better bargaining position. Now that Jackson is playing like a Pro Bowl caliber player and Spiller has showed little Jackson is in a good bargaining position. He is now one of a handful of guys who need a new deal.
  22. I just hope the bills can beat the raiders. All of this joy and media attention will quickly go away with a loss in week 2. I think they will win, but it could be a dog fight.
  23. According to many on this board they are better off losing Manning than their LT. Every off season it is debated whether the bills should draft a Tackle or a QB, and every year both sides of the debate have equal numbers. I think it should be obvious that QB is the most important position in football, and they colts poor record this year will prove it.
